"Grian," Pearl said, after a moment, "are you contagious?"

Grian made a sour expression as he shoved Mumbo past her into her base; she stepped aside, eyebrows raised. "I haven't got a virus, Pearl."

"Just asking," she said, pushing the door shut behind him. "Cause, you know, I'm pretty sure the last time I saw Mumbo, he had two eyes."

"What's important is that it's not my fault," Grian said, bundling Mumbo onto a sofa. Mumbo was staring at nothing, in about fifty different directions. Well, that was worrying.

Pearl looked at Grian doubtfully.

"It's not! It's actually not!" Grian said, defensive. "I didn't do anything! He stole my soul!"

Pearl went to flick Mumbo in the forehead, smoothly averted the gesture when she couldn't spot a clear patch of skin to target. "Well, what on earth did you go and do that for?" she asked him, not really anticipating a response.

"Mind, I'm not sure if he actually is a Watcher now or if he just looks like one," Grian said thoughtfully. "I guess that's his thing this season, is looking like what he eats, did you know?"

"Huh," Pearl said back, and squinted. "What would be the difference?"

"I'm not exactly sure," Grian admitted after a moment. "Maybe when he's coherent again we can ask him if he feels like his soul's been fundamentally reshaped or not."

"And when do you think that's going to be?" Pearl asked dubiously. She snapped her fingers in front of Mumbo's face a few times to emphasize the point. A trio of eyes blinked at her.

Grian shrugged. "Few hours? This is easier when it happens in the void. There's a lot less to look at."

"Alright. Well, I'm not getting any work done until then, I guess. Wanna watch a movie?"

Summary:

In the end, it’s the lantern that betrays him. Its light spills out from the basement’s mouth, staining the walls in faint, ruddy streaks. He’d left the trapdoor open as an escape route— had assumed, ridiculously, that Mumbo was either already here, or was occupied with something far too fiddly to abandon any time soon. Clearly, he’d been wrong— the balloon of Mumbo's confusion leaves a tacky residue on the back of Grian's tongue, centered directly on that dim, emanating glow. Distantly, his mouth wells with water; the hooks seethe from between his teeth, but they fumble in their hunt, stumbling over themselves with thick, disoriented motions before they can latch onto their target. Grian pins his eyes to the soil-crusted boards of the storage room’s ceiling, fighting back a wave of dizziness. If he's exceptionally lucky, Mumbo will assume the trapdoor was left open by accident, close it, and be on his way— none the wiser. If he's supremely unlucky, which is statistically far more likely for him— He'll be caught red-handed.

So I was watching ep 3 of mumbos secret life pov and I noticed something

when mumbo scar and grian where together at the secret keeper Scar and mumbo made some off handed comments about how they thought grians eyes looked red whilst he was repeatedly chanting fail

And based on that one moment I formed a headcanon 

What if being in the vicinity of the secret keeper heightens a player’s bloodlust 

Making it so every single player (even the green names) is susceptible to slipping momentarily into the red mentality 

And As a result their eyes flicker red

It's hard to watch Mumbo's older seasons sometimes because you get a lot of frustrated Mumbo moments(redstone really really doesn't work) which make me feel bad but also its all cancelled out with really happy Mumbo when redstone does finally work great.
