RIP, MR. UNDERWOOD What makes a 39-year-old man steal a truck, start a high-speed chase with police, and then target a nice, elderly gentleman who is driving in another truck on a highway? I do not get it. Drugs? Mental illness? I would like to know more. It is, sadly, a case of murder-suicide. The only reason I know about this is because my great-great-great-grandfather, James Goodell, lived in Elm Mills, Kansas, near the site of the incident. A veteran of the Civil War, he died there in 1887 and was buried in the Lake City Cemetery. I have a Google Alert set up to notify me of any mentions online of Elm Mills.

Read on the local news of a women being attacked in a city near me, only to check the comments to see multiple close friends of the ‘women’ saying he was actually a trans man. And when i returned to the article later - nothing was changed except for the comments being turned off.

And it makes me think.

How many stories about trans men have just been erased because the news just says we a women. How many trans men’s existences have been erased.

how many trans men have been murdered but the fact they are trans is erased and no one recognizes their murder as a hate crime . Because the amount of times I’ve seen personal friends of trans men who have been murdered begging people to stop calling their friends a women, and that the reports of them being a cis women are erasing the fact their friend was trans.

And because all the reports say a murdered trans man is a cis women - his name never gets added to any lists about trans violence. His existence gets erased .

I wonder how many trans men were harassed and bullied into killing themselves just for their family to call them a woman and - if the news even bother to report on the death - the local news to call them a women.

And I think about that whenever I see people talk about how trans men never face violence bc you never hear about it on the news or it being reported on.
