not affiliated with any fandom, open to interacting with most and can adapt to any aus/verses. this is a writing blog for the character steven crain from netflix's the haunting of hill house, inspired by the character dr. montague from the 1959 gothic horror novel by shirley jackson.

i will be incorporating my own original and personal interpretation of the character as well as expanding on what's already been written. i plan to delve deeper and further develop steve's character. headcanons will be used. i will also be gathering various source materials for inspiration to be used in my portrayal.

canon-compliant. follows the series with a few minor tweaks. but i'll be heavily focusing on him being a paranormal investigator and horror writer outside of the events of the show unless discussed beforehand or interacting with other hill house muses.

depictions of horror, the supernatural, death and grief will be present. i won't be writing with minors. this blog is 18+ only. triggering content will always be tagged appropriately.

i'm open to discussing pre-established relationships, and open to most dynamics such as platonic, rivals, romantic, etc. chemistry is always required.

JACKIE’S  HEADCANONS  ABOUT  HAIR,  PART  1 . 

001.  SATIN.   he thinks about cutting his hair several times once he gets up to the wall, and a few times on the road to castle black.  he never goes all the way, but he’s stood in front of the small looking glass he’s got in his chambers, then later in jon’s when he’s his steward, staring at his reflection and those ringlets that are just so, so pretty.  much too pretty.  002.   LANCELOT.   he cuts his hair after he starts pit fighting because the longer tresses are easy for opponents to grab onto.  he does it messy and quick without a mirror, just with some shears he finds behind a farmer’s barn that are usually used for the sheep.  003.   NICHOLAS.   the more relaxed and himself nicholas is, the more mussed he allows his hair to be seen.  in school, when he was living for the first time since childhood outside his uncle’s house, he looked nearly scruffy at times  —  a far cry from the perfectly put together king he’s groomed to be.  004.   VAX’ILDAN.   vax learns to braid hair when living in byroden with his mother and vex’ahlia.  there are days when elaina has far too much on her plate in the mornings to manage readying the twins for the day, and vax’ildan’s dexterous fingers are the best at the intricate braids vex’ahlia and he both like in their hair.  when he can find (or purchase later, when he’s got the coin to manage) colorful beads to braid into his hair, it’s all the better, making up for the years he’s not allowed to wear his hair as he likes, syldor noting with more than a little disdain and reprimand that vax’ildan’s choices are far too ‘colorful’ for a respectable young man, even an ill-born half-elf like him.  005.   STEVEN.   steve has olivia’s hair, just like he’s got her eyes and her smile and her nose.  he doesn’t inherit the curls like shirley and theo, but he has some waves if he would be willing to let his hair grow out longer than he usually prefers.  he keeps it neat and tidy and normal though  —  something about him has to be.  the kids at school have enough to pick and poke at without adding ‘hair’ to their list.
