I'm thinking maybe for my next quilt, I'll work with a subdued desaturated color palette for a change...but honestly probably not!!

I'm playing in @ghouljams sandbox, with a tiny, hurt child. She's a combination "normal" person and unable to see her own hurt.

I don't own Witch, that's Ghoul's OC/Reader insert. I do own Racheal/Lilac.

Racheal shakes as she hesitates to knock on the door. Granny told her that the witch living here may be her only hope of actually understanding the magic she has. But the witch here also has ancestral magic instead of having to rely solely on the magic her own body creates. Which Racheal has to do. Swallowing around the lump in her throat, the girl knocks on the door and flinches at the sound she’s made, clinging to her barely made grimoire tightly.

The door opens and the prettiest woman blinks down at her, brows furrowed in confusion.

“Are you lost, sweetie?” she asks Racheal. Squeaking, the girl shakes her head and hands the woman her Granny’s letter. The woman blinks before accepting the letter, frowning at the writing before turning back to Racheal with a smile.

“You might as well come in, okay?” the woman offers with a smile. Racheal nods and scurries in, glancing over her shoulder nervously. The woman hums and moves through her house with ease, leaving Racheal to scurry after her.

“So, how old are you, sweetheart?” the woman asks, as she opens the letter.

“…E-eleven, ma’am,” Racheal answers, flinching at the woman suddenly stopping in the hall. Slowly, the woman turns to look at Racheal, her hand moving to toy with the hagstone necklace she has.

“…Eleven,” she repeats, and Racheal can’t do anything but nod. Granny always said she was too stupid to start learning when everyone else started, because she couldn’t even tell what the difference between using lavender or using sage would do to certain spells as a five year old. The woman closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, letting it out slowly before a smile crosses her face.

“Well, let me finish reading this and we’ll start outlining what to do to help you,” the woman offers with a nice smile. Racheal perks up at that, eager to learn what she can and hopefully please at least one of her teachers.

“Y-yeah! That s-sounds like a plan!” Racheal agrees, flinching at her stutter. Granny told her proper witches don’t do that, but she can’t really help it. It just comes out. But, she thinks while looking up at the woman who only smiles at her excitement, maybe it’s just a coven thing.

“Okay,” the woman says after Racheal dropped off her meager belongings in the spare room she had pointed out (Racheal wasn’t really allowed too much, she was too stupid to own things according to Granny), “Let’s lay out some rules. One, I’m to be called Witch, okay? That is what the majority of people know me as, and it’s easier to remember than knowing my actual name.”

“Y-yes, ma’am,” Racheal agrees easily enough. That’s easy to remember. Miss Witch smiles at her, her eyes softening nicely.

“Now, I need to know your fae name,” she instructs, “Because that’s what I’ll refer to you in public with.”

“It’s S-Stupid,” Racheal answers. Miss Witch sighs and smiles, almost looking amused.

“I’m sure it’s not, sweetie,” she says, “You don’t have to be shy.”

“Oh, uh,” Racheal starts, realizing that Miss Witch didn’t understand, “N-no. I m-mean, my n-name. It’s Stupid.” Miss Witch freezes, her smile in place, but something brewing under her pretty eyes. Slowly, her face changes to something thunderous and Racheal shrinks on herself, waiting for the strike that’s sure to come. She’d deserve it, after all. She upset Miss Witch.

“No,” the woman says, startling Racheal, “I’m not calling you that. We’ll think of something else.” Racheal blinks at her, confused by her reaction as Miss Witch hems and haws over a thought.

“What’s your favorite color?” she asks suddenly. Racheal jumps, blinking at her in shock.

“…I can h-have one of th-those?” Racheal replies, stunned. She’d heard about that sort of thing, favorite things. Granny told her that only smart people could have them, that she’s too stupid to have any kind of preference. Miss Witch hums and nods, although something in her face tells Racheal that she’s angry. But, she wants to know what color is her favorite. And she really likes purples, especially light purples like…

“Lilac,” Racheal decides.

“Then, that’s what I’ll call you,” Miss Witch tells her. Racheal, Lilac, smiles and nods eagerly, only to jump at a knocking noise from what looks like Miss Witch’s backyard. The woman huffs, almost fondly, before patting Lilac’s head.

“Stay here, okay, sweetie? I need to speak with someone,” she tells Lilac with a smile. Lilac nods eagerly and stays right there, although she wonders if Miss Witch would be upset if she sat on the floor. She’s really tired from having to stay up to catch the train, then the plane, then the bus, then the other train. Maybe she can sit for a minute, then stand back up.

“I’m going to kill a fellow witch,” you chirp to Price, holding back every piece of rage you feel. He raises a brow at your declaration, surprised that you decided to greet him with that.

“Is it the little one in your house?” he asks, curious.

“No, she’s the reason why I’m ready to commit murder,” you tell him. The poor girl is too thin and small, obviously malnourished. Then there’s the stutter and that name. Oh, that name. And to top everything off, the witch who sent her wrote the letter like complaining about a stray animal that needs to be put down, not a child that needs to be guided.

“Deep breaths, love,” Price soothes, reaching across the bricks to grasp your hand within his. You comply, taking a deep breath before slowly letting it out.

“She’s eleven and, according to the letter, she barely knows what the herbs do, let alone any spells,” you tell him. Price freezes at that, obviously understanding what you’re implying. After all, witchcraft is a craft, one that must be started young to be able to use the magic safely and confidently. Most witches start by reading to their children from their own grimoire, teaching what a symbol or plant means and is used for.

“…A child,” Price sighs, smoke pouring out of his mouth like a waterfall.

“An abused child,” you correct, watching as he breathes out of his nose, hard. Smoke bursts out of his nostrils like a bull or a dragon, an anger burning in his eyes and you find yourself at ease.

The relationship between children and fae is always tricky. A child could be coveted or prey, depending on the fae in question. However, with Price’s reaction, you can tell he would rather burn down the world than harm a child. Perhaps it has to do with how children are easy prey, something that Price has told you was boring. Perhaps it has to do with what little you’ve found out about Ghost, the fae following L- no, she needs a different name… Pink? Sunny? Ugh, well, the fae that follows the Shop Keeper’s friend around.

“I’ll tell my boys to behave around her,” Price said, pulling you from your musing. He smiles, “That’ll spread the word that she’s under my protection.”

“You don’t even know her,” you argue without any heat. Price chuckles, leaning against the wall with that sly grin of his.

“You like her, pretty witch,” he purrs, sending a shiver down your spine, “That’s more than enough for me.” You huff, but the smile that fights its way on your face probably tells him how amused you are by his declaration.

“I should finish getting her settled in,” you tell him, brushing your hand against his own. Price catches your hand and presses a kiss to your knuckles.

“I’ll see you around then,” he promises, giving your hand a soft squeeze before pulling away. You turn back to your home and go inside, only to stop and sigh. Lilac is curled up on the floor, asleep, with her grimoire clutched in her arms. The dark circles under her eyes tell you how little sleep the girl gets and you feel another wave of anger threaten to drown you. How could anyone do this to a child, let alone one who so obviously wants to please? When you get the chance, you’re going to burn down the witch’s house and adopt the girl. Or, maybe help her find a family if you can’t.

currently watching: 一念关山 a journey to love (yngs), but i'm kinda only half watching it rn bc i zone out whenever a scene does not involve li tongguang or yu shisan. unsolicited opinion and i'm in the minority here but the main cp has largely bored me since ep 12 bc i'm not a fan of how the show is writing their relationship development now even tho i liked their initial dynamic. ANYWAY i am also thinking abt rewatching some episodes of story of kunning palace since there is a canto dub out now hahaha

I don’t even know the artist (the only Hungarian music I listen to are basically musicals and the Hungarian versions of Disney songs), I don’t even like the song, but for some reason it was stuck in my head.

Last Song I Listened To: According to my phone, One Last Hope from Hercules.

Three Favorite Foods: Fruit soup, tiramisu, and... let’s pad thai (choosing 3 is harder than you think!). 

Last Thing I Googled: The date of the papal visit to Budapest, not because I want to go there, but because it will sure F the traffic up. It’s next weekend, and thankfully I won’t be in the city.

last book you hated reading: Cinderella is Dead. Sadly, it was a really disappointing read for me. I usually quit reading a book right away if it don’t like it but I only listened to the audiobook  so I made myself stick to it right to the end. Still extremely disappointed.

Bonus:

favourite thing to cook/bake: I LOVE baking christmas cookies (”Plätzchen”) and apple strudles and cakes in general! I also really like cooking pasta and Japanese soups but I like cooking in general.

favourite craft to do in your spare time: Um, it’s not really a craft but apart from writing I like to do belly dancing. Hence the song stuck in my head, I’m trying to create a fan veil choreo for Christmas. I also play the violin (badly). 

most niche dislike: I dislike strawberries. Does this count? 🤣

opinion on circus(es) now and in history: I admire the distinguished artists and weep for the animals. But most circuses around here keep very few animals and those they have are in very good condition.

do you have a sense of direction and if not what is the worst way you ever got lost: I actually DO have a very good sense of direction which I only discovered at the age of 18 in Barcelone (Spain). Nevertheless, I got lost in the Sahara desert at night during my trip through Morocco which was an altogether terryfiying experience what with the hours (?) of wandering between the dunes and going through all stages of panic imaginable. But hey, I survived (!) and found my way back in the end! It was a scary experience but it’s also a great story for parties 😅😆

I WISH I did, in my mind I totally romanticize cooking and baking but I actually just don't enjoy doing it. I want to so bad, I love the idea of myself doing it, but I just don't lol

So many people, like actually most of the people I care about currently live 2+ hours away, which!! Sucks!! And at the top of that list is someone particularly special 💕

primrose— how long does it take for you to get ready for the day what does your routine usually consist of?

AhAAAA recently I have been snoozing my alarm so much that I can get ready and out the door in 10-15 minutes? But IDEALLY I get up at 5:45 and out the door around 6:30. Recently? .......up at 6:25, leaving at 6:40 lmao.

But my morning routine on a work day is to do my skincare and brush my teeth, put on my makeup and decide whether my curls are able to be tamed or if I need to put them in a scrunchie, feed my cats (who have been meowing and weaving in and out of my legs for every step of the process so far), take my meds and eat my yogurt and possibly something else, and then hopefully: leave for work on time lol.

orchid— when you're being extremely quiet, what are you typically thinking of?

Honestly it's usually work lol. I am very often thinking about work. I've been thinking a lot recently about how like,,,my job doesn't need to be my life, but it's something so integral to who I am right now that it's hard to separate what I do from anything else. I can't decide whether it's good or bad-—to feel like my identity is so tied to that. It's something I love and something I'm good at. But i also have to have a life outside of it, and I have to feel okay about myself on the days I don't do my job particularly well. Anyway—that's a long way of answering the question. But yeah, when I'm thinking, it's often work lol

Honestly I don't think I have a favorite color? Because I like them all in different moments! But the other day a coworker told me she noticed I wear a lot of dark green, and that somehow made me like it more?

I do! Two kitties named Melody and Harmony

My makeup is fairly simple, mostly because I never learned how to do anything more than that. But I just do some foundation, mascara and lipgloss most days!

For work I do—I usually wear the same heart necklace most days, and I switch out my earrings all the time cause I have a couple I like.

poppy— out of the four seasons, which season of the year is your favorite and why?

I normally answer autumn, because I love the leaves and the weather, but also it's a time of getting colder and darker which—right now, just doesn't sound good to me so this time I'll say spring! For warmer days and longer days and things coming back to life.

Sunflower- What name(s) were you originally thinking of calling your OC?

Jesse is the only name I remember. He started as a self insert, and Jesse was from my middle name. His last name Roberts originally was going to be Wright, since Jesse is a writer. That last name is actually given to Lyle, who is Jesse's step brother.

Rose- What is your OC's favorite form of self-care?

Journaling. He was going to be a journalist before the apocalypse, and journal entries are sprinkled throughout the book. It's his only way to truly express himself.

Lilac- Does your OC have a comfort item? If so, what is it?

Jesse would consider every single thing he owns a comfort item he simply can't live without. His headphones, glasses, guns, supplies? Definitely. But I think his true comfort items are the scraps from before the apocalypse. Any pictures he brought to college, blankets, the jewelry his step sister made him that he regrets every making fun of her for. He pretends to be too good for all this crap, that he doesn't matter, but truthfully if anyone breaks any of it he WILL snap and WILL kill them.

Orchid- What is your OC's biggest fear?

Becoming useless, and dying hating himself. So much of his self worth is placed in his skills, if that's taken away he realizes just how unlikable he is. He's not ready to face the person that lies under all his false confidence. (I want to do a longer post on how Rory changed the ending of Jesse's story)

Snapdragon- What is your OC's most used phrase?

A long string of expletives, I imagine. Or some form of "fuck 'em, I don't need them".

Daisy- What inspired you to create your OC?

The Walking Dead game, originally. Than I liked him so much I made him his own character and story.

Lily- What is your OC's love language?

Acts of service. Anything that needs done, he'll do. He'll learn new skills to impress someone. He wants to prove he can be useful and provide for them.

Poppy- How is your OC around strangers?

A total jackass. An asshole. Cold and a know-it-all. He thinks he's above needing people, and you better prove your worth quickly before he decides he's sick of the conversation.

He mostly just sounds like me if I lower my voice. He's from New Hampshire though, if that pinpoints an accent.

I have nothing to say to this guy, he wouldn't listen to me. I'll give him a can of beans and send him on his way. Maybe give him new shoes for his long trip.

Until told otherwise, always assume my characters have brown eyes.

I'm not sure how well Jesse would get along on tumblr, but if he had a tumblr URL there are two routes. 1 that's violent, like "Jesse-squeezes-lemons-in-your-eyes" or one that's professional, "jesse-roberts-journalist" or something. Either way he posts journal entries and gets into a lot of writing discourse.

Dandelion- Does your OC gets overwhelmed easily?

He does well under stress, sometimes better than he would without. He gets overwhelmed when it's an internal conflict, or anything managing his own or someone else's feelings and problems. He just doesn't know how to sympathize with others or care for himself, even when he's really trying.

Last time he cried he was probably alone on the road, trying to fall asleep as his thoughts spiraled out of control to think of every bad thing that's ever happened to him or the bad things he's done and regretted.

He has 2 glaring bad habits: smoking, and lying.

Lavender- How does your OC cope with loud noises?

He wears noise canceling headphones for this reason, he's protecting his hearing. He's so used to gun shots he's not bothered by loud noises much though.

Snowdrop- What is something your OC loves, and what is something they hate?

I want to do obscure things for this- He hates rabbit stew, or any other lean meat or abundant but low nutrient food source. He loves fake cigarettes, either candy or herbal. He almost likes them more than real cigarettes.

I'll edit later with photos, but it's pretty reliant on layers. He wears anything he can get his hands on that'll protect him. Grungy and thick clothes, mostly.

He's very confident in the skills he has, but after meeting Rory, he wants to pick up guitar to impress him. He's held back because his dad had tried to teach him and he hated it, and now he has to learn on his own.

Hiii! Lilac is such a pretty color, it's just so soft and calming. And just feels like spring and happiness. Purple is actually my second favorite color after Pink and third is yellow & blue equally. But Lavender and Lilac are the prettiest shades of purple there's no way it wouldn't make you happy. My favorite color as a child was red and pink then in middle school it became purple then in high school back to pink. Then black for a time I wore nothing but black till 2020. But now my favorite colors are pink plus a very pastel rainbow. Speaking of if you get the pride theme setting for Tumblr everything's different shades of pink and purple. And a bright yellow. Your ask is lilac to me. I really want to dye my hair a light purple but it's hard to get the perfect purple. But I'm gonna dye it Pink and Blue. It's blonde now I don't like it too brassy gotta tone it and dye. The front will be pink and the back blue. It'll look really scene with the way I impulsively cut my hair a while back. I was bored. Hopefully the pink formula I have in mind is the perfect shade of pink. The blue too. Kinda want lime green and pink hair but that might be too circus clowny and less cotton candy. But I do like lime green. Maybe after blue. Plus when the blue and pink starts to get too intermingled it'll be a pretty lilacy lavender color.
