synergize mini update

first couple pages of synergize are illustrated/done. Not sure how long it will take for me to finish the first chapter since it's been a long time since I've done a comic, and those were released page by page, not chapter by chapter.

first two chapters of synergize have been nightmares to write, establishing the world, the characters, the basic lore, the main conflict/main plot while also trying to keep it toneally somewhat consistent with future chapters since this is a introduction and I dont want it to toneally clash to much with future chapter and give off a false impression of what synergize will be like. Beginnings are hard, but it's something I have to do to get to the plots/stories I actually want to write.

also, major thing, take everything posted on this blog with a huge grain of salt, the problem with writing, vs planning is things I originally thought would work, sometimes don't, or I come up with something better while writing, or dynamics change as I flesh them out more. I feel guilty for changing things I shared publicly, but as i writes things are bound to change hopefully for the better. The final say on what is truely canon is the comic. Many things on the blog are out of date or could possibly be changed in the future. (Mirage is no longer going to be a part of the starting cast, he's going to show up later, Smokescreen will fill his spot)

You talked about this with an anon a few days ago I believe and I have to say I'm indeed impressed of how you've grown as a person those last years. I'm also impressed of how many things you do in your life and how many things you are interested in. How do you even do it ? Everytime I want to do something, I end up just spending my time on my computer doing nothing all day, and that goes for my homeworks, internship research and mémoire too. You have any advice ?

I have to admit that I do spend a lot of time staring at my computer screen and at my phone’s screen. These last couple of months have been quite intense for me, since I started my internship, because I’ve had my internship, my one class a week, my student job and my volunteer job, all of which kind of merges together when I try to write fic (NaNoWriMo), do edits, work on cosplay and what else have yous...

To be quite honest, I don’t have any usable advice, other than telling you what I do in order to try and get through all the tasks I need to get through in the day - and perhaps, telling you that maybe having 60+ hour weeks for more than four months in a row is a bit much.

I always write down a list of things I’ve done in the day when I am having dinner and/or am about to head to bed. It can be ‘done laundry, folded clothes, showered, put cutlery and plates in dishwasher, read one text, saw a movie and went to the grocery store’ because all of those things in themselves aren’t, well, “proper things” but they are when you put them together.

After I’d done this a while, I realized that I had a list inside my brain all the time, and if I could just tick off 4 things in a day, I’d be satisfied - it could be to wash my clothes, shave my legs (which also meant showering), prepare a text for Uni, and walk home from my internship. 

It’s also a lot of self-control - when I’m at my internship, that’s all I do. I don’t sit around on Facebook, staring at my phone, because I know they’re expecting me to do my job and to do it well - I may be overperforming at 120% of what is expected of me, because I am hoping to impress them enough to be offered a position there when I have finished my thesis, but that’s basically it.

When I’m working on Uni things, I also don’t look at my phone. It helps that I have it on completely silent 24/7 - it’s never on vibrate or on sound. So, I don’t know if someone is calling me unless I a) have my phone in my hand when the call goes through or b) I see they’ve tried to call and left (or not) a message. You’d be surprised at how few calls I’ve missed because of that specific thing. 

It stems from the fact that having my phone vibrate for every single notification all the time gave me a whole lot of anxiety a couple of years ago - WhatsApp, Messenger, Twitter, Tumblr, e-mail, text, Whatsapp, Snapchat, Tumblr, Messenger, e-mail, e-mail, text from the store, e-mail, e-mail,... It was just non stop, so I turned it off. I still check my phone once every three minutes, but if it’s a notification I can ignore for now (someone on Whatsapp asking me how my day is, for example), I wait until lunch or until I have a bathroom break to reply to it.

It’s also how I did it with NaNo - do word sprints. Except here, it’s more like concentration sprints. Write your article, then spend five minutes goofing around on tumblr. 

In the morning, too, I’ve made it a habit to unlock my phone when I go to the bathroom to pee, first thing in the morning, and instead of spending 15 minutes in bed checking my calendar/mail/instagram/whatnot, I spend maybe 5 minutes going through it while I do my thing, and then I get on with my day. I also optimize phone usage while I’m on public transport - scroll away while you’re in the bus, but stop scrolling when you’re at work / in class.

My student job is being behind a counter in a busy shop, so I don’t have time at all to goof around on my phone, which means I get shit done there too, but it’s retail, so you reach a point where there’s nothing left for you to learn, so you just go on auto-mode.

I’m juggling a lot of things at once right now - I’m supposed to start writing on my thesis, but I still haven’t finished my internship and my one class yet (lol, don’t ask), so I’m optimizing all of my time so I can get at least 7 hours of sleep per night, and get enough tasks done in a day to keep me afloat - and, when I can, I sit on the couch, connect my phone to the ChromeCast and watch a bunch of silly Vine compilations or other equally silly videos for half an hour, and then I go to bed.

My only, like, real life advice I can ever give you is: don’t ever think that you’re doing yourself a favor by staying up until 5 am, UNLESS YOUR BODY (AND PSYCHE) CAN HANDLE IT. I know my brain can’t, so I’d rather go to bed at 9 pm, and get up at 5 am to finish something, instead of doing it the other way around. 

Make sure you get enough sleep when you can. Socialize when you can - don’t lock yourself away from others because you’re busy. You’re not too busy to grab a cup of coffee or meet up with someone at Uni after class.

Eat. Like, for real. Even if it’s muesli with milk and a banana for dinner, it’s fuel for your body. You only had garlic bread in the freezer and you were too tired/busy to make proper food? Eat those garlic bread. Or cheetos. Or donuts. Or salad. Or- you get the point. Just get SOMETHING into your body. You can always go to the gym or walk it off when you’re not stressed anymore.

Drink - if you haven’t filled your water bottle three times in a day, you haven’t had enough water today. (Assuming you have a 0,5 l bottle, like me). If you think filling it twice is enough, you’re wrong. If you’ve only had soda during the day, you need to drink at least one large glass of water - trust me.

Remember that it’s okay to cry because you’re stressed - it took me a while to remember this, but your body and mind have limits. Even if you do 60+ hours, remember that it’s okay to break down at one point and be like ‘fuck this’. If you have to skip reading some texts for Uni, then just read the conclusion of the text instead. If you have something to hand in at work, either ask for an extension, or hand in something that’s finished but not perfect instead - sometimes they’ll have other things to correct (commas, spellings, etc.) and when you get to do the second draft, you’ll get to edit some of those other things you didn’t get the time to do first time around.

And last: never, ever, ever, blame yourself for not managing to do as much with your 24 hours as others. Some only need 3 hours of sleep to function, others need 9. Some manage to get up at fuck’o’clock in the morning to go to the gym, workout, go to work, go to some extra-curricular activity, make homegrown chicken pasta noodle salads with their homebaked bread, and then watch a documentary about how clever they are, all in one single day. Others will sit all day on the couch and watch a documentary on Netflix about polar bears while eating cheetos, maybe also procrastinating and making mentals notes about that paper that’s due in a week.

All are valid. 

You can make it count. All that matters is that you don’t give up.

Donatello had a wary smile on his face as he read the simple text from his only little brother. He looked at the notes he'd written, finding it difficult to actually read them. It was late, likely much later than Mikey would normally be awake. A glance at his phone confirmed this.

Still he looked at his laptop, which now taken apart on his work desk. Donnie could kick himself for all the work his minor mistake had put into play. He could have spent the night decrypting the data on the storage device they managed to snag from the Kraang. Instead, here he was tediously replacing the USB port it damage, along with the other components it somehow managed to fry in the process. It was some sort of bizarre domino effect the genius had never witnessed before, so of course he needed to jot down notes regarding the damage. Then he needed to make sure he had the replacement parts. Also since it had been a while, and he already had the thing taken apart, he may as well do some needed manual updates...

That was only the manual upgrades. It was going to be a whole different journey trying to make his laptop compatible with that storage device, and the knowledge that he'd likely have to decrypt and translate the files.

With a light sigh, Donnie typed out a reply to his brother.

It's still going to be a while. You should go to sleep.

That much was true. It's not that he didn't appreciate Mikey's concern, but whatever reason Mikey was still awake probably wasn't a good one. The fact that Mikey was texting him was a little odd too, now that he thought about it. Maybe the small turtle had tried to knock earlier, and Donnie had missed it? He was pretty distracted, all things considered. Whatever the case may be, a good night's sleep would likely help his brother out.

The sound of his phone told him that Mikey might not be keen on the idea.

Now he was certain Mikey needed something. A distraction, probably. Mikey probably wouldn't have asked that question otherwise.

Donatello looked at the door to his lab. The thought of checking on his baby brother crossed his mind, but he knew if he did that it would be difficult for him to get back to his work tonight. This was far too important to keep waiting a whole night; he'd already lost a few hours trying to fix his own novice mistake.

A text, he thought, was at least something he could do.

I'm repairing my laptop.

It wasn't even a full minute before he got a reply. Likely due to Mikey's sloppy way of typing, Donnie had to presume.

With a sigh, the elder of the two rubbed his temple. His vision blurred while reading the screen, but it wasn't unfamiliar. Being exhausted while working was par for the course for him. If he had to, he'd get some coffee after he was certain Mikey was asleep. 

After a moment more, he finally wrote up a reply.

I didn't take the compatibility issues of our conflicting technology into account.

Donnie groaned. Mikey wasn't that stupid. There was no way that was difficult to understand.

Another message.

Donnie slouched in his chair, resting his chin against the desk as he typed a response to his sibling.

The Kraang's storage device wasn't compatible with the USED slit. I ended up damaging the slit in the process. I can only hope I didn't damage the device as well.

The terrapin shut his eyes. Maybe replying to Mikey wasn't the best idea after all. It didn't take much time or effort to type up a reply, but with how fast and frequently his brother was responding, it left him with little time to do much else. He let out a long yawn, shaking his head as he quickly shot up. He scrunched his brow in determination.

No, he had to finish. He was the only one who could do this, after all. He was about to lift his screwdriver when he heard the phone go off again.

And again.

Three times.

Donatello wanted to ignore it, but he knew he had to check regardless. Plus, he was curious as to why his brother would send so many texts in succession.

Never in your life had you ever thought you would end up dating someone who had made a career out of making music. Sure, you had pretended you were married to your favorite celebrity or singer when you were little (didn’t everyone?), but to think that one of your significant others would be a guy who wore a shimmery and dangerously low-cut bodysuit on stage to preform songs was something you would have laughed at just a few years ago.It wasn’t to say dating Dan was a bad thing. Quite the opposite - dating Dan was probably the best thing in your life at the moment. You knew going into it that dating him had meant dating Brian and their band Ninja Sex Party by extension, and you were quick to adjust and learn to love it. You had made yourself a kind of roadie whenever they went on tour, posting photos of them on social media and talking to fans into the early hours of the day. They - along with whoever their opening acts were - were always happy to have you along.

One night, after spending the day at rehearsals for one of the band’s upcoming shows, you were in the bus, quietly scrolling through your phone, legs and all taking up the tiny couch that made up the band’s living space for the time. Most of the boys were getting changed into their casual clothes, which was why you were out in the living area.When you heard a door open, you looked up to see Dan emerging from the right room, hair fluffed out and in a pair of sweatpants and a baggy tee. Though his face was still a bit pink from being all done up in his costume and under the heat of the stage lights, he looked utter content, at peace. “Well don’t you look comfy,” you teased as you pulled an earbud out and put your phone to sleep and set it in your lap. “How was work?” Scrunching up his nose, you laughed a bit. He never did like calling what he did work. “How ya feelin’?” Good way to change the subject. “Tired, but still pretty jazzed up,” he confessed with a little laugh as he walked over, moved your legs, sat down on the couch, and put your bare legs in his lap. “It was a great rehearsal. It’s going to be an amazing show.” His voice was the best combination of dreamy and excited. “It always is,” you told him in return, scooting over toward him. “Anything new the audience should be expecting?” A grin broke to his features. Both of you knew that any information shared would be kept secret, of course, but you were always one to tease and have fun with his audience. “Anything new? Hmmm...” Shifting a bit, Dan pulled his phone out from his pocket and begun fiddling. “Do you have your headphones?” he asked off-handedly as he was doing so. With a raise of your brow, you took them from your lap as well, unplugged them from your phone, and handed them over. After a few moments, he held out an earbud, and you took it, putting it in the correct ear and waiting.

What began was something you immediately recognized, but not because it was Dan singing or even Doctor Sung’s auto-tuned riffs. It was a song you’d actually shown him a few weeks prior, one you told him always reminded you of him - one about wanting to just feel something again, hoping to feel young and free and finding someone to do it with. Eyebrows furrowing, you couldn’t help but look up at him in slight confusion. Was he playing the wrong song; trying to tell you that the band had gotten the rights to cover it? But when he looked over at you, he just smiled, and let the song play.As it continued on, you hummed along, hearing him do the same. He was a little more in-tune than you were, but it was sort of hard to mess up humming. When it finished, you opened your mouth to speak, to ask what he was was getting at, but then, the next song begun.This one wasn’t one you recognized, but it followed the same sort of composition as the first. This was about feeling loved, feeling safe; it seemed to be a response to your song. Dan was the one you could lay with, to dream with, to be free with. He brought color into your life, dance and music and passion. As you listened, a hand came up and covered your mouth, stifling the soft gasp and the smile growing. No, you wouldn’t cry, there were other people in the bus that were going to see and maybe even get worried, but... “Danny...” You looked at him, finding his smile had gone gentle, almost shy. The song came to a close, and he paused the next track.

“I actually made you a playlist.” His eyes found his phone, and he brought it out of sleep mode. “It’s not a big one, just a couple songs. But, you know me, I’m trying to get into more modern stuff.” Looking at the screen as he unlocked it, up came a small list of songs, and the title above it reading For You. On it held a number of bands you didn’t recognize, but some familiar names, and your heart melted. “I was gonna put it on a CD or something, but then I realized that was really 90′s, so I kinda held off on it,” he babbled on, chuckling softly. “I’m not entirely sure how to send it to you? But I’ll figure it out. And then, when you can’t come with me on tour and stuff, you’ll still have a little part of me with you.” A reflexive tick of your tongue as you replied gently, “Awww, Danny!” Wrapping your arms around him - albiet a bit awkwardly - you kissed him sweetly. Never in your life had someone made a playlist for you; it was definitely the sweetest gift you’d ever received.

So here's the story. I was driving in my 2012 Honda Civic today and got angry and punched my navigation system (I know. It was unbelievably stupid. I know.) Anyway, the screen is shattered now, but the system still works. I called up a Honda dealer who said it would cost $3600 not including parts and labor. When I search online, the navigation systems seems to cost between $250 and $700. So what I want to know is, how much should I expect to pay to get this fixed. How long does it take? Here's the situation: I've had health insurance for the past few years through Nationwide, which is/was provided by my employer. The cost is taken out of my check every week. I received a letter from my employer last December stating that I did not have to change anything in regards to the Affordable Health Care Act. Two months later, I received a letter from my insurance company saying that I have inadequate coverage and need to visit healthcare.gov to find different coverage. I found new coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield through healthcare.gov (I was planning on going BCBS anyway). I asked the woman who I spoke with when I should cancel my previous insurance benefits. She replied Wait a couple of weeks until you get all of your new information from BCBS . Here's where the issue comes in. When I contacted Nationwide (my previous insurance company) to cancel they said I had to fill out and send back a form. Basically, the form asked why I was cancelling. Go figure there was no option for them not having the correct benefits. Anyway, I sent that back and proof of my new policy (they wanted the effective date) Nationwide DENIED my request to cancel stating that I only had 30 days from the time my new coverage began to inform them. Even though their coverage doesn't meet the AHCA requirements, I cannot cancel until my company's open enrollment (December) Can they legally decline my cancellation request?""
