Happy New Year! I had rum and coke for the first time last night (it was good). I wish I archived Dobson's Firewatch playthrough, he went on and on about how the protagonist drank and was bad and evil for it.

Has Dobson shown any distain for alcohol before in comics/journals? It's fine if you don't like that stuff, but he was acting weirdly... prudish about it. If that's even the right word. And because Dobson was playing a MAN.

Those “video game vlogs” he made are the big thing I wish had been archived above anything else Dobson related. There was some crazy stuff in them.

One one that comes to mind is one of his “Things I…” comic series.

I did go and pull up the archive of it to get the AN notes from Deviantart so you can know exactly why though.

Apparently he was under the impression he’d become an out of control alcoholic if he did drink.

What program(s)/brush(es) do you use to color in that KH-style? Thanks!

Hello, sorry for the late reply!! I use Clip Studio Paint, and mostly rely on the program's default "realistic watercolor" brushes. They're really good for achieving an authentic watercolor look, my ultimate favorite is the "soft bleed" brush!

When coloring, the 1st thing I do is I just fill in the flat colors on different layers with a default inking brush (I use "realistic G-pen", which I also use for inking & coloring in sharp details), then i lock the opacity of those layers, after which I paint a paper texture on all of them with the "round watercolor brush". After that I just fix the colors with sliders and go ham with the "soft bleed" brush on those same layers :-D

Since normally erasing/blending in this technique can easily ruin the base paper texture, the "copy stamp" brush is your friend if you make a mistake. "Wet watercolor brush" can be used as a sort of eraser as well. I also hastily cooked up my own "realistic watercolor blender" just by basically taking the stats of the "soft watercolor brush" and turning that into a blender tool :-D

Btw, since the "soft bleed" brush has a "multiply" effect on by default, I just quickly change that to "normal" or "add glow" etc if I want to use it in a different manner. You could ofc easily make those into their own brushes as well but I'm lazy lol. Definitely try out the other default "realistic watercolor" / "indian ink" brushes as well! Experiment and find out what works best for you!

Did Yume talk to Cid about the aftermath of delving into his memories about the Bozja Incident? Be it to comfort him or otherwise?

Oh absolutely! Cid actually divulged all of what he remembered about the Bozjan Incident even when they first met back in 1.0 and again after they reunited and Cid regained most of his memories in 2.0, but as we know, his mind was blocking out one of the most important details ahem Midas shooting Cid while being tempered by Bahamut.

After Yume and Mikoto dived into Cid’s memories and all was revealed, Cid started having nightmares of the event, and his PTSD was rearing its ugly head again. Yume comforted him every chance she got, and she soon got Cid to see the silver lining in all of it: with Midas being tempered, Cid can now see that his father truly did love him and was every bit the loving and caring father he knew as a child. It was NOT his father that hurt him and destroyed the Bozjan Citadel that day, but a tempered slave to Bahamut’s will.

As a result, Yume and Cid together vow to do everything in their power to end the summoning of primals and to aid in reversing the effects of tempering, hence why Cid has no hesitation in helping out Alisaie in finding a cure for tempering in 5.4. Even if Midas couldn’t be saved, maybe there are countless more than can.

“These crops wont grow themselves.” Cecil was relieved when he, Noel and Vhaso’a came here; they’d found more people, supplies that could have been used to actually survive. He’d been trying to put himself to work since then, he had to be able to help everyone in more ways than simply fighting. He’d been doing any odd job people needed him to, mostly in terms of physical labor.

Cecil takes a breath and glances around to look for anyone he might be able to call for help, and the first person in sight is… well he thinks this person is called Marluxia. He’s heard the name in passing but he isn’t completely sure. That isn’t important though, Cecil decides to call out and hope for the best.

“Marluxia! Could you come and help me?” Now he just needs to hope he got the name right…

“Hmm?”

His name called from far behind him, from one of the few that he’d met when arriving at the farmhouses with Aqua. He himself had been taking a small break, already having helped sort through the food supplies that had been there, and that had been collected.

Waving an acknowledgment to the warrior, {Cecil?} he took slow steps towards him. “What can I help you with, Cecil?”

Jude hadn’t known what to expect on his journey to the pains-- the whispering plains, he’d started to mentally call them, seeing as they kept obnoxiously whispering in his ear to come to them. (Maybe not literally, but the whisper from before was a bit like a song in his head, it wouldn’t come out.) The most he could have expected was a lot of grass, and flat land. 

For the most part, that’s what he got. Perfect grazing land, verdant fields as far as the eye could see. What he also found were... sheep. Small herds of them with brown colored wool and spiraled horns. Rather impressive beasts, they reminded him of the horses his clan kept, albeit on a smaller, fluffier scale. 

Should the scavengers catch up to him, perhaps he could convince them into sheep breeding. Such strong stock would certainly appeal to them. 

It apparently appealed to some people already. A man, light haired and athletic in build was... stalking one of the rams. For what purpose, Jude didn’t know, so he just watched afar from atop his horse, head cocked to the side. 

Ultimately, the main scared the beast away, as it bounded through the grass to the safety of its herd. It was a somewhat comical sight, but one he could sympathize with. The horses didn’t trust him immediately either. “Excuse me.”

Did anyone archive Dobson't short return to Youtube? I distinctly remember his Firewatch video and Skyrim video (particularly his complaints, lol). Same with his 'History of Cel Animation' video (which I admittedly liked).

Unfortunately, no. And it’s a real shame because there was some really interesting stuff in there. Like him talking about the physical list of forum users he kept that made fun of him for being a Nintendo fanboy.

Blood. There was blood everywhere. Blood and pain and ash and dust. Bodies of friends and family and those she cared about scattered around her, the sight of her mom scattering to dust. She cried but all she got was the shadowy figure of that BASTARD laughing at her, and the feeling of a knife twisting farther into her side, blood rising to her lips. She screamed, reached out a clawed hand to grab him and choke him and bring him down with her and-

Akira startled awake to someone voice near her, a scream on her lips. Her hand instinctively reached out for the persons throat, claws bared, eyes red but glassy, not all there. There was still blood around her, on her, and the phantom pain of a knife in her chest, her lungs, at least to her, her breath was ragged. 

She couldn’t recognize who woke her, to her it looked like HIM, sneering down at her. Not Cecil, not the king of Baron, the friend of someone she almost considered family, not someone she considered her own friend even if she didn’t yet know him as well. No, the nightmare was still there, and it was currently blending with reality making everything blurry and confusing and she needed to take HIM down with her if she was going to die again.

Unfortunately no, I wasn’t, as I started playing FFXIV when ARR was released (I was WoW trash before then). I have watched all of the 1.0 cutscenes and have read all the 1.0 lore though (as far as I’m aware anyway) as I am obsessed with one Cid Garlond and I had to see 1.0 Cid sans beard. I’m planning on writing a long fic for Yume and going through the events of 1.0 all the way to EW, so I’ll be brushing up on 1.0 stuff soon enough.

I distinctly remember Dobson being on the front page of dA all the time. And it was his fault my art suffered for several years until I got proper training, lol. I was a dumb, impressionable kid and actually believed his 'Don't practice, you'll learn subconsciously!' BS. I honestly did. But I use it as one of many motivators to strive for improvement since improving in anything is on yourself--something Dobson will never understand. I think he also didn't realize how much work art actually takes, so he kinda just fell off. Hard.

I do think there’s some merit in the idea of not forcing yourself to improve, at least not to an extreme, but Dobson just took it to the opposite extreme: he just assumed he’d have a high level of improvement without ever really challenging himself. And look where it got him.

It’s good you were able to learn from his mistakes though. “Don’t Be A Dobson” will continue to be Dobson’s biggest contribution to artists as a whole.

Did Dobson ever say he regretted deleting his dA? That was probably the biggest success he had online, I think.

Not really, no. He made a big deal about when he finally did end up deleting it….

…but he was also under this bizarre belief that DeviantART was desperate to get him back because of how cool and popular he was, all because he got automated messages from them regarding new likes/comments/ect from them occasionally. Like he seemed to honestly believe that someone was sitting at DeviantART begging him to come back. And when people would point out that the problem could easily be solved by either deleting the account or disabling email accounts, Dobson would pitch a for about it before finally admitting when pressured that he essentially just wanted to bitch and get attention. As if that wasn’t completely obvious. Have a look:

I remember seeing a video from him once. I was surprised at how high pitched his voice was for a man his age. I always imagined him sounding like Movie Bob for some reason.
