Prepare yourself, I’m gonna gush over my boy!! I had to refrain from picking only moments from the early manga/season 0 because that’s my fav version of Yugi lol (not to say I don’t like his DM version, both are iconic, me thinks)

5. This moment from DSOD. Something something seeing how unresolved grief could destroy a person and realizing you’re capable of going down that same dark path, yet becoming emotional for the one causing all of this unstable turmoil. Can never go wrong with Yugi being emotional, me thinks

4. His blank ass stare. He ass is not comprehending anything that’s happening. POV you’re a fucking shortstack and you get a hug from your crush/bff.

3. I’m sorry but this little moment was so cute. Dan Green’s performance in this scene just made Yugi extra cute (aka the voice crack lol). I think we should’ve gotten more silly interactions with him and Pharaoh!

2. How could I NOT include the confession scene??? His voice, the fact that he was so willing and ready to die in order to keep Joey safe… it pulls my heartstrings every single time!!!

1. IMO this was iconic. All of this, the pain and suffering that came afterwards, all because he wanted a friend. He turned his life upside down because he was so lonely. Like, had he wished for something else, none of this would’ve happened. Also I absolutely ADORE the art style we got at the beginning of the manga.

BONUS bc I can’t resist:

This. This moment here. His ass is NOT prepared to survive in the wild, he would freeze in five minutes because he only had his tank top and harness underneath.

Also… I mean. I’ve always been a sucker for sick day episodes, so this is easily another favorite. Sickness being another form of vulnerability and seeing how a protagonist would overcome it is always good in my book. This was no exception, I thought Yugi was adorable.

Would you mind sharing some info about your oc x canon? :3 what's their dynamic like?

I have a few oc x canon ships I absolutely adore from many different fandoms ^_^ the one that has taken up a huge place in my heart since forever is one of my bnha/ my hero academia ships.

|| I don't interact with the fandom or the source material as much anymore publicly (I've talked abt this before) but they just can't leave my mind! ||

You've met my oc Kou before! She is very much my bread and butter oc, I do a lot with her because shes my favorite to draw. She started out as a my hero oc, though, so I find that's where she really flourishes!! I pair her with Tokoyami! 🙈 They don't have an official ship name (my friend group calls them TokoKou on occasion) or anything but I draw them literally all the time even to this day. They're my top oc x canon ship by a long shot LOL to me they go together like tofu + soy sauce, it feels weird to draw one without the other.

They gift me so much joy, and their dynamic is so interwoven .. they're extremely strong characters on their own but they are also twin flames to me!

Kou is an owl girl (LITERALLY); she is weird and flighty and yet couldn't be more endearing. She is the definition of a hopeless romantic and loves The Overexaggerated and Dramatic in the world. She has a very loving connection to the moon and cherishes nighttime and the concept of darkness that is borderline religious. She's a big poetry girl, she's confident in her independence and prefers to be on her own for most things. She is pretty open about who she is, but often wishes she handled things with more maturity or coolness.

Tokoyami is an edgelord. He struggles with his self image but only in the way a teenage goth can. He talks in riddles and older prose + tries very hard and yet not at all to cultivate a persona for himself but he genuinely just likes acting like he's batman. He is an extremely sweet individual, even though he looks like he hates everyone 100% of the time with his major rbf. He also definitely is a poetry lover, idk if that's necessarily canon but I feel it in my heart.

How can I even describe what they've gone through that's taken ME 5+ years to go through .. in their lore, they bond tightly as friends and as internship partners under Hawks and the events of the series. They are extremely fond of each other even before they start their romantic relationship, and I always find new ways they pull new facades out of each other when they're together.

I also like to tell everyone in the world that Tokoyamis favorite food is apples while Kous are blood oranges, which obviously is a sign that they are meant to be each other's olive rule 🙈 (They do however always debate which fruit is more superior; jury's still out on the answer.)

^_^ I always enjoy writing and drawing for them. They're a huge comfort for me for sure. I'm ALWAYS rearing to talk about them, it's embarrassing.

Just letting you know that my mind is currently completely occupied on a genie au with Jou and Yugi because omfg its perfect.

My thoughts so far

Genie Jou

Wishmaker Yugi

Jou's doesn't like talking about his past masters (Wishmakers) because some of them have been cruel people. Serving them was sometimes traumatic. Both because if the way they'd treat Jou and the wishes Jou had to grant in some cases

One of Jou's former Masters is actually still alive. It's Hirutani

After Hirutani, Jou's lamp had been tossed in the trash. A few years later Yugi finds it in a landfill. It's damaged and in poor condition but Yugi knows with some care it'll look beautiful even if it'll never be perfect. He feels compelled to keep it

The rubbing motion he uses while cleaning it is what coaxes Jou out. Initially, he'd been asleep since there's only so much he can do all alone in there

He's also anxious and can't help but feel afraid when he first pops out, he expects another monster like Hirutani or past Masters. But he does a decent job of hiding this outwardly and he quickly becomes attached to Yugi.

But he's also aware that once Yugi uses all his wishes (and if he ever rejects Jou's friendship) his use will be gone. And even if Yugi doesn't throw him away someone could still take him. This makes him that much more attached to Yugi, clingy and anxious anytime Yugi makes new friends despite trying not to be.

He's of course happy for Yugi anytime he makes a friend. But it makes him fear the day he's no longer needed is that much closer

That's all I've thought up so far :3

Oh boy.

Well. I'm sure this has been said in the past 20+ years

But i fully think that at the dock duel Yugi fully intended to sacrifice himself for Joey. It's why he gave him the puzzle.

Because if Joey wins. He can wield the puzzle. And Its why Yugi, sweet boy that he is says to Joey right before the final blow that he loves him

So we know that Joey uses his chain to swing across the dock and save Yugi without grabbing his own key. But my stupid brain goes

"What if Joey grabbed his own key first and didn't make it in time?"

What if they didn't manage to save Yugi?

What if Joey had to become the holder of the Millennium Puzzle and save the world with Atem?

No doubt they'd both be filled with rage and anger towards Marik, and.... he probably wouldn't be spared

It could probably go really dark and have them looking for a way to get him back.

It's definitely my angsty brain just coming up with shit.

Day 7: New Beginnings

My darling Jounouchi Gnocci and Yugi Boogie..

1. Okay yall are going to kill me. I never watched pokemon and I played like 2% of platinum growing up. I also never watched Digimon. SO! I'm going to do what I do best and assign them a BIRD ! ! !

I was kind of torn on Yugi, I really want him to be a belted kingfisher because they're one of my childhood favorites (and to me? Fit his energy?) They don't really stand out with any extraordinary behaviors though, so I'm also placing him with a parrotlet.

Parrotlets are the smallest parrot species and they're mischievous little birds that are SO sweet and extremely smart, they fit him very well. I hope to own one some day ^_^

-> Jou was SUCH an easy choice for me, what immediately came to mind was some kind of corvidae family member. I think he could be a jackdaw, but Scrub Jay's are soo him to me <3 They're pretty smart, playful, have big barks and are very under-appreciated birds! Just like our Jou.

3. Favorite Canon Looks?

-> This question haunts me because I love pretty much all of Yugi's outfits, including the stupid capsule monster filler arc armor suits 😭 Yugi was one of my biggest fashion idols growing up as a queer emo kid. I'd have to say his classic DK/S0 outfit is truly my favorite if I had to pick one. The symbolism of his thick leather vest that connects to his choker underneath his normal school uniform has always been eye catching for me. I also much preferred the rope on the puzzle compared to his silver chains. Very nostalgic look for me. (CLOSE TIE WITH HIS ANZU DATE OUTFIT <3)

-> Joey baby.. okay so I'm kind of lame, I LOVE. His battle city fit, I think it's so him. The sneakers, the baggy T-shirt, I also think the colors of this palette suit him well. I also like his wtd arc outfit, which is kind of similar vibes.

4. What movie(s) do you think they would not be able to stand?

This is so difficult.. I'm going to say Jounouchi isn't much of a fan when it comes to musicals or psychological thrillers. He seems like the warrior of the week film guy. He might groan about them in front of Honda but he will watch any chick flick with Shizuka. Hes surprisingly thoughtful about them too!

Yugi .... oh man, I don't know. He seems like he'd be a really big film nerd but at the same time he's not? He enjoys movies that have all sorts of twists and turns and also ones that are bold and not very subtle (FANTASY FAN). I think he'd have problems with very Film Bro movies? He doesn't understand the appeal of them and almost always finds plot holes within them that can never be explained.

5. What is a gentle memory they might have?

-> I personally think Yugi has SO many sweet memories of himself and his grandpa when he was growing up. He is such a grandpa's boy.. he remembers so many times that Grandpa was tucking him into bed at night and telling him stories of magic and fantastical creatures and adventures in his younger days.

-> And we know Jou has SO many memories of him and his sister as a kid. I doubt all of them were entirely gentle and more bittersweet leaning. Coming from a big brother like myself, I could see Jounouchi distracting her from their parents fighting by coloring with her or playing outside. But after they get reunited as teenagers, I bet they have all sorts of fun new memories together like finding the BEST spot to get pizza or biking to the beach every now and then together 🥹💓
