While it's not NärCon's biggest offence they're infamous for having absolutely terrible artworks to advertise themselves. These are some of the official artworks posted for NärCon Vinter 2024. You never would have guessed this is what THE biggest gaming/anime/cosplay convention in the nordics choose to use! It's appalling that they to this day refuse to pay artists to do artworks for them. Embarrassing even.

NärCon has had 20+ years and has access to an entire discord full of artists who happily come to NärCon to sell their art. Really makes you wonder why NärCon doesn't feel it's worth paying them to make better art for them - perhaps NärCon simply does not actually value art or artists? There's been a repeated unwillingness from NärCon mods/staff to denounce AI art publicly even in their creative art discord, so they've given artists all the more reason to doubt NärCon actually values their work as artists.

Or perhaps NärCon's reputation is so bad artists don't want to work with them...? NärCon mods keep bullying and banning artists from their discord server so it wouldn't be surprising.
