January 18, 2024:

This is the kind of horror that just makes me sad instead of excited. It's N0S4A2 with none of the whimsy. It's almost true crime actually, except for juuuuust enough magical realism in there to keep me from abandoning it. You spend a lot of time with the killer, and there's quite a lot of emphasis on the detail and physical feeling of serious or fatal injuries, as well as a thematic focus on deprivation of innocence and potential. Well done, but a major downer.
