Embracing the Beat: How Dyslexia Became My Musical Strength**
In the world of music, finding your unique voice is a journey that intertwines personal experiences, challenges, and triumphs. For me, this journey began with a rhythm that resonated deeper than notes on a sheet— it began with the heartbeat of my soul.
Growing up, school was a whirlwind of confusion. Despite being loved by friends and teachers, I struggled to concentrate and comprehend in traditional academic settings. It wasn’t until I discovered my passion for music that everything began to click in a different way. Undiagnosed with dyslexia, I realized that my mind processed information differently. While some saw this as a limitation, I later on saw it as an opportunity.
At a later time in life, music became my sanctuary, my language of expression where dyslexia turned from a challenge into a creative advantage. Instead of following traditional paths of learning, I taught myself to understand melodies, and compose songs in a way that made sense to me. The rhythm and structure of music provided a framework that my dyslexic mind could grasp and excel in.
As I honed my skills, I found inspiration in artists like Amy Winehouse and Nancy Wilson, plus many more jazz and blues singers, whose soulful voices and poignant lyrics resonated deeply within me. Their influence became the foundation upon which I built my musical identity — blending soulful vocals with heartfelt lyrics drawn from my own experiences.
Today, as the front person of mskingnco, our band brings a unique blend of original compositions and soulful covers to audiences I hope to bring around the world. Each performance is a testament to the power of perseverance and the beauty of embracing one’s differences. From intimate gatherings to lively concerts, our music tells a story of resilience and passion.
But beyond the stage, my journey is a reminder that dyslexia isn’t a barrier; it’s a pathway to creativity and self-discovery. It’s about finding your own rhythm, your own voice, and teaching yourself to understand and appreciate music on your own terms. Whether it’s mastering digital art, creating animations, or recording and mastering tracks, dyslexia has taught me to approach each endeavor with determination and innovation.
So, to anyone facing similar challenges or embarking on their own musical journey, remember this: embrace your uniqueness, harness your strengths, and let the music guide you. Dyslexia may present obstacles, but it also opens doors to new ways of learning and creating. Let your passion for music be the melody that leads you to success, one beat at a time.
Join me in celebrating the power of music, creativity, and the resilience of the human spirit. Together, let’s make every note count.

My Most Recent Big Adventure…
Until recently, I’ve always done all my audio recording at my home studio. But I needed some professional demo recordings which brought me to Reeds Recording and the awesome Adam who was the recording technician that day.
Now, what brought all this about?
Well even though I’ve already recorded 4 audiobooks on Audible, I have never done voice work for commercials or documentaries and such. And…

I picked up a bunch of cheap 45s over the weekend, including this $2 UK picture disc from the mid-90s. I’d never heard of the song before—“Will You Still Be There (In The Morning)”—but it’s more of that mid-tempo adult contemporary pseudo-rock they were doing in the late 80s. There’s two things of note with this one—the innocuous but not particularly memorable song was written solely by mega-producer Mutt Lange….but he didn’t produce it. The other interesting bit is the B-side, recorded live in Capitol Studios; I’ve usually never cared much for “These Dreams,” but it’s a great rendition—lovely arrangement and nice performance.

Nancy Wilson talks about Layne, his addiction and the song “The Dragon” written in the early 90’s. The insight she had when Layne had started his downward spiral is hard to comprehend; however, when you have a close friendship with someone, you can sometimes see what others couldn’t yet. • Via Blabbermouth, May 2021 • • • —————————————————— #nehistripesseattle #LSMS #LSMSAiC #aliceinchains #laynestaley #mikestarr #mikestarrforever #seankinney #jerrycantrell #the1loveaic #nancywilson #thedragon #1990s #seattlesound #blabbermouth (at Seattle, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj6p_EpplbA/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
