Just for fun, here are my favorite albums from my the bands that have racked up the most track plays since I started keeping track many years ago:
1. Black Sabbath - Paranoid
2. Skeletonwitch - Beyond The Permafrost
3. Metallica - And Justice For All
4. Decapitated - Blood Mantra
5. Haunt - Burst Into Flame
6. Vader - The Ultimate Incantation
7. Misfits - Walk Among Us
8. Alice In Chains - Dirt
9. Slayer - Hell Awaits
Since this was based on track plays, the black metal albums that have glorious long songs are at a disadvantage, haha. I’ll have to make a top BM post soon.
Beautiful shot of Layne rStaley eleased on 5 April 2024; the 22nd anniversary of Layne’s passing. Photographer Paul Hernandez pulled this from his archives and saved it for this year’s anniversary. This was a new photo for all of us!
I saw this meme and just thought, you know, that ain't right. There's an infamous quote from Jani Lane from Warrant after seeing an Alice In Chains poster about to go up on the office walls at Columbia Records: “Hello Seattle, goodbye Warrant".
"When we released the record, "Cherry Pie', you know in in the office of Colombia Records in New York over the President's desk. Actually, there was a huge poster of "Cherry Pie", you know, and that was a big ego boost or stroked in the band and know that you're a priority at such a huge label.
And uh and then when we were gonna release the next record which was called "Dog Eat Dog", I did the exact same trip to New York to talk with the President. And over his secretary's desk was a huge poster.
Again only this time it was Alice in Chain's "Dirt" and I was like I think he slipped down the priority ladder here a little bit and that was That was one of the very first signs."

off their self-titled 1995 album, Again was the sixth track and third single released. The song achieved recognition and general praise including a 1997 Grammy nomination for best hard rock performance. Unfortunately, the song is known to have only been performed live up to 5 times with the original vocals of Layne.
The music video, directed by Layne Staley and George Vail, released in March of 1996. The video was nominated for MTV Music Awards’ Best Hard Rock Video of the year. It would be the final music video filmed with Layne Staley.
To me, the song has always reminded me of the predictability of violation. My favorite part (besides the all-consuming holler where Layne changes notes mid scream, transitioning the song into a new melody) is the little ‘Doot Doot’ harmony between Layne and Jerry. I’m not sure what it reminds me of, but definitely something I’d expect from a song of a different genre.
