ART OF THE SEA
Tedious work at best, but well worth the effort when using imagination for wave details in this upcoming diorama of New England’s memorable steamship ferry MV NAUSHON...https://www.facebook.com/rex.stewart3/posts/10213135945893920.

Bow view -steamboat NANTUCKET by Rex Stewart
Via Flickr:
To conclude, I post this head-on view of NANTUCKET approaching the marker buoy. It was a great project to endeavor...and I'm looking forward to the next assignment. The 19th century was, indeed, the Industrial Age for many inventions which included the steamboat. To that, and for that history, I am thankful to be able preserve it with the type work that I do -especially with the ability to draft plans forwhich to make this possible. Stern view -NANTUCKET c.1887 by Rex Stewart
Via Flickr:
This stern view support the previous post about visual perspective. The flags enhance the work by indicating wind direction as both vessels are slightly listing. Also one can sense the feel of movement.

Swordfisher passing port to port -Rex Stewart by Rex Stewart
Via Flickr:
Presented here is a beautiful contrast of maritime evolution between sail and steam. Aside from just placing vessels on a base, I wanted to give the scene visual perspective from all angles.

Carving the seagulls were a challenge at 1:87 Scale; but painting and arranging them in flight pattern were equally challenging.

Starboard waterline view of steamboat NANTUCKET by Rex Stewart
Via Flickr:
After three months of research (and work), I was finally able to complete this first in a series of ten dioramas depicting the steamboat history of New England's Cape Cod Region. This starboard view gives a waterline perspective of the steamboat underway -showing the churning water rushing from the guard scuppers at the movement of the paddlewheels.

Port bow view of Nantucket passing marker buoy -Rex Stewart by Rex Stewart
Via Flickr:
Still a work-in-progress... Here, we have the painted sea and floating buoy -with the steamboat's bow on the approach passing. Missing are the seagulls which will highlight the buoy area upon completion. Rigging detail of HO Scale Swordfishermen by Rex Stewart
Via Flickr:
Since the Friendship sloop was modified and rigged to be a swordfish vessel, I feature rattled climbing ropes leading up from the masthead to the lookout hoop in the top. Miniature birchwood blocks were made to support the running rig system. Silk and linen threads were used.
