So many compare themselves to others progress in life and what someone else’s opinion of where we should be at in life, but to do this does a great disservice to our own accomplishments and mindset. My story: I did sales for a long time and the money was great, but it was too much stress. I decided I needed to make a change. I kept a tight budget, saved an emergency and additional funds so I could live for about a year without a job. I went back to school to finish my computer science degree while working (basically couldn’t do more than 1-2 classes at a time) but when I got close to making the leap, fate gave me a lucky break. The change was daunting at first and I applied at jobs and took interviews till the cows came home and after about 5 months of that I landed an entry level position. I have since moved up 2 pay grades and I’m still only making about two thirds what I did in sales. 😂 The struggle bus is real! However…, I am a LOT less stressed for a multitude of reasons…I am happier and have a LOT more free time to further my education even more and work on side projects. Like helping others in sales quickly improve their skills/mental health or find their passion and better themselves to get out and dedicated my site hacking-life.com to doing so. TL;DR : Sales are great for learning a unique set of skills (people interactions included) and obviously the money is amazing! But you can get out! The pay cut is difficult at first and initially the struggle to find work to get back to the same level of pay may be hard… but damn once you’re there you’ll have less stress, more opportunities to make even more money and have more free time to pursue your dreams and passion.
