I do think it’s so cool that we meet Natalie in the adult timeline at a point after she’s already lost Travis. Like she doesn’t know she’s lost him when we meet her but we the viewer know on rewatch that she’s already seen him for the last time. And like him as the person she’s built her life around and who has been her closest confidante for 25 years and by the time we meet her she is already going beyond the bounds of the way she has lived since the woods, she has to find a new way to live, the old way is dead and it doesn’t work anymore. and honestly the same can be said for the others too — the ways they’ve been coping are faltering. shauna kills adam because of how hard she’s not coping. taissa blows up her marriage because of how hard she’s not coping. misty’s life has been defined by isolation and here she is building genuine connection with nat.

like the thing about yellowjackets being that the past all already happened they can’t change it they’re stuck in this cycle and they can’t break . and ALSO at the same time as that we are meeting them in a moment when they do not know what they are becoming. their timeline is fixed and their timeline is in flux and they don’t have any understanding of where they’re going. the show as a closed loop (by the time we finish out the ‘96 timeline of the last season we know we will one day just arrive back at the ‘21 timeline of the first season) and the show as this infinite black hole of inexorable becoming (the ‘21 timeline of the first season spinning off into the distance of all this life and change that the ‘96 characters in all their despair and desolation could never dream of, they don’t know how much more suffering there is, they don’t know how much more joy there is either. )

tbh i think they're setting natalie and tai up to be the only ones to oppose lottie's ways for the time being, but they'll both eventually give in by the finale. notice how tai was the only one sorta backing natalie up when she went off on lottie in the cabin over the baby blanket. everyone else defended lottie. and tai and natalie have been around each other more in the 96 timeline recently—before, they'd never share the screen together. they're probably gonna bond over their significant others going to lottie's side.

i definitely agree with this!! especially with tai being the one to pay for nats rehab and still being in contact with her in the present timeline, i can see them getting closer in the past as the only 2 (with maybe misty? she did agree that they didnt know what the symbol actually means) who oppose lotties beliefs or think that the symbol might means something more sinister.

whatever presence is in the woods, i think lottie and her followers believe it to be a benevolent force, but tai and nat if they start to believe at all will definitely see it as a more malicious presence. i can see them joining lottie in the end not as a way to worship the spirit but more to appease it? giving offerings, spilling blood, etc so they dont anger it or end up starving to death (or being eaten by the rest of the group). i dont know if natalie is necessarily going to believe in the spirit but i think van finding out more about taissas sleepwalking might be a turning point for her- at least in the sense that she cant explain/doesnt understand it. i love the idea of nat and tai bonding over their significant others being so taken in with everything lotties saying about the symbol and the wilderness- i dont necessarily think itll break them up, more that there'll definitely be tension between them until nat and tai give in and join lotties rituals at the end of the season.

ive seen lots of people on reddit theorising that the groups will split into two factions, lottie leading one and tai leading the other. i dont see this happening at all tbh, not from what we've been shown in episode 1 with pit girl. i do think nat and tai will eventually fall in with lottie, even if they dont believe the same way that she does.
