Also timely because realizing, after years of believing otherwise, that there is no battle against the cultural establishment so far that has meant actually changing the fundamental crises of / in culture work. The tendency towards cliquishness, the elitism, the focus on (the elitism) of form, the kulto method, all happen even in the alternative spheres, it’s always ever just a matter of time — if it isn’t obvious to begin with. And in the end, the refusal to engage with the establishment, the mainstream, is the death of a discursive exercise that remains necessary and important, especially since by refusing to do battle, what are we allowing but the propagation of the dominant, well-entrenched as that is?
