Did you know there are TWO places claiming the world's largest peace pipe? 🌬️ Pipestone, Minnesota, and Zhiibaahaasing First Nation on Manitoulin Island both boast this title! 🍃 While we have the dimensions for the one in Minnesota, the size of the Zhiibaahaasing peace pipe remains a mystery. 🥁 Bonus: Zhiibaahaasing also has the world's largest dreamcatcher and drum!

“the image is a medicine wheel, a representation of the four sacred directions, the interconnections of the elements and all beings. it is reflective of the wisdom and teachings that have been passed down from the elders to the younger generations. while there are many variations, and as many meanings, it is reflective of the diverse groups, languages, cultures, and traditions that are spread across the land.” - @luminanutrition. as white people, we do not pretend to know the important of indigenous symbols or meanings, but we feel it’s important to share these things because indigenous people matter. their rights matter. their lives matter. their symbols and traditions matter. please pick up a keychain to help missing and murdered indigenous women, children, and two spirit. all profits will be donated to CSVANW. . . . #indigenouspeople #indigenousrights #medicinewheel #keychainsthatmatter #nativeamericanheritagemonth #nativetraditions #decolonizeyourmind #decolonization #decolonize https://www.instagram.com/p/CHeCbmGnXUp/?igshid=42ep08g1szfi

The top pictures is of sweet grass harvested by Mohawk women and the bottom is of a sage stick that is used for smudging. The sweet grass has a wonderful scent and is used to burn or for decoration. The sage is used to purify the soul and areas to rid them of negative energy/identities. In order to view a Native ceremony and sit in the arbor, guests must have their full body smudged and walk around the inside of the arbor stopping and giving thanks to each direction. Sage is used in many Native cultures and has been adopted and utilized in Western cultures for it’s healing properties as well. I personally really enjoy learning about holistic practices and the healing power of natural plants. I also really enjoy the smell of sage and the way it calms the mind.
