Hey y’all! I’ve been making soap!

It’s really simple too. I just use sea water, olive oil, and lye, making it incredibly gentle for sensitive skin. It’s been cool. I’ve even found a way to use herbs too which I loveeee. It’s weird but it feels so nice to make something both practical and pretty at the same time. And my bathroom smells amazing…. I’ve def made too much soap but no one can get mad at me because everything smells so good. They’ll make nice Christmas gifts so at least I don’t have to worry about that !!!!!

I'd love to hear about any skin conditions you guys may have! I’m still new at this and want to continue practicing. I would love ideas !!

Pure Castile soap is gentle enough to use on babies, burn victims, cancer patients, animals, ect. Since I’m surrounded by pregnant ladies I thought it would be a good offering but.. soap and herbs can help a multitude of issues so! Reply away and give me stuff to research~~~*~* yes?

I don’t know why these are making me so happy; maybe because they look like ridiculous white chocolate blocks and I want to bite one. I wanted to make a pure Castile bar of soap for sensitive skin for a ritual cleanse, but I didn’t want to wait a year for them to cure, so I went a little Frankenstein and made a pure olive oil and sea salt bar with kaolin clay and scented it with really good lavender essential oil. My whole house smells like lavender and I’m not mad. These will cure for a few weeks instead of that year that true Castile needs and once I get to sample one they’ll be in the shop.

Possibly the girliest soap I have ever made... I saw the pink swirlies and just had to top it off with some ecoglitter. I also used a combination of Bramble Berry's Yuzu fragrance oil and Watermelon fragrance oil from The Flaming Candle! It has such a lovely, sweet, fruity scent that's perfect for summer! Unfortunately I won't be starting up my Etsy at the moment, these are going to be sold at a shop local to me. But I'd absolutely love to do this bar again in the future!

Nordic Night Lights

With January underway, the season that seems to bring people down is in full swing. It’s times like this that many people wish that there was more color in the world. However, there’s a beauty to the snowy fields and forests that quite a few people get to see in this time of year. The crisp, fresh fallen snow glitters under the sunlight and moonglow as it blankets the landscapes. The crystalline blanket of snowflakes reflects the world above it, allowing the beautiful blue of a clear sky to tint it ever so slightly. That beauty is almost magnified at night as the snow seems to glitter and glimmer like the twinkling stars above. How beautiful of a picture is that?

If you know, there has already been a post about the signature soap Nordic Nights, but if you don’t know, let me tell you all about this natural and handmade soap. Scented to remind everyone of the Norse nights spent under the stars, this clean and crisp fragrance smells like the freshly fallen snow. Colored with beautiful ethical micas to replicate the dark sky over the snow and trees, this soap is one that can be used year round. The activated charcoal makes the black, a brilliant white swirls with blues to finish off the picture of our snowy landscape coloration. This bar of soap has a unisex fragrance with notes of juniper berry, vetiver, and sandalwood allow anyone using it to be brought back to the crisp clear nights under the stars when the Norse people would hang their laundry out to dry before the snow fell. Even with the laundry hanging inside the home, some of that snowfall would make its way into the home and into the clothes of the noble Vikings that looted the northern countries. If you didn’t know, vikings weren’t the name for the Norse people, it was a job. So, all vikings are Norse but not all Norse are vikings if that helps you remember.

On those clear nights, one can sit under the stars and see the beautiful constellations above. Lyra, the lyre; Perseus and the winking eye of Medusa; Hydra, the huge serpent that stretches across the sky much like Jormungandr wraps around the world of Midgard; Ursa Major and Minor, the Little Bear holding the North Star in its tail; Cassiopaea and her parents, Andromeda and Cephus; Draco, the dragon; and so many more look down on the world and shine bright around one single point, the North Star named Polaris. Twinkling in the sky and casting light down onto the crisp powdery snow, the fresh and clean scent of the night is brought into a solid and tangible form with this soap. Glitter stars rest atop this soap to remind us all that we are nothing without the stars to guide us. Daily we see the sun and it guides our way through the day, at night we see the North Star, bringing us home to the North where Valhalla calls to us during battle.

If you’ve been around for a while, Nordic Nights was originally called “White Wolf” for one of the ferocious and protective creatures of the forest. But with another soap that was called Grey Wolf gaining notoriety as Fenrir, it’s time that the company gave this soap its own identity. Getting in a few last loaves of soap before I run out of curing time for Sherwood. Yesterday’s turmeric ginger orange loaves turned out really nice; wasn’t sure how deep the color would be but I’m pleased with it. I imagine it’ll fade a little as it cures. I think I’ve got time for one more batch, a Cambrian blue clay bar using sea water I brought home from Greece.
