Artist of the Week:

I've been doing this for two weeks now where I spend the weekend highlighting and bringing back the art of one amazing artist who has made fandom so much better. This week's artist highlight is the incredibly talented, wonderful, and deserving of all kudos and love @naturalshocks who makes such amazing traditional art. Which do you use to draw (app/digital or traditional)?

I use traditional media. I've been trying to learn to use Procreate, but I feel like I need another 20 years to find a brush combo I like and figure out all the tricks. I get a bit overwhelmed by all the options. :|

Fave brushes/pencils/mediums?

Nothing can beat graphite pencils in my book.

Your favourite piece you've drawn?

Right now I'm very fond of the portraits of Stede and Ed I drew on maps.

Who's harder to draw: Ed or Stede?

For me it's Stede. He's got a bit more going on face-wise: fine lines, wrinkles, THE NOSE. <3 I also find mouths tricky and I love that Ed's is conveniently obscured by the beard (hair is probably my favourite thing to draw).

One essential tip for beginner artists?

Always present your work with the confidence of a mediocre straight white cis man.

oh man this is HARD

the pill versus the springhill mine disaster by richard brautigan - this is a strange one, sort of. a lot of my love for brautigan is tied up with when and how i read him and it doesn't all hold up to my Now Ancient eyes lol, but i cannot understate my fondness. (also he's incredible in estonian, the translator Went Off)

network effect by martha wells - all of murderbot deserves a mention tbh, but this novel just delivered on everything that i wanted and it genuinely reignited my love for reading and for that i am grateful

winged victory by victor yeates - i'm not over this book, i will never be over this book, i am, perhaps, crying right now

jade war by fonda lee - i loved the whole series but the second book just really stands above the rest for me

flying fury by james mccudden - this book has it all: fairly reliable and precise accounts, planes and on top of everything else m'boy went ahead and just invented comedy too while he was at it

sorry for not being active these days (month), i wish i could but it’s more and more difficult for me to find time, energy & motivation for drawing. sometimes things are so fucked up that your usal things that allow you to escape, relax, don’t work so much anymore. so sometimes it’s good to make a lil break. i still have plenty of projects in mind for sure, but the trick is to go through! thank you all for the patience and for some of you, to still hang around, waiting for some new art ;) i really appreciate. can’t wait to be back to work, i really miss it.

Hello! I keep coming back to look at your artwork of Sherlock with the balloon. It's absolutely stunning and my eyeballs purr with delight. Is it available as a print by any chance?

It currently isn’t sorry! 

but i may have to reconsider ;P I plan to have an artbook-zine printed in before THought Bubble soooo…getting some prints made might have to become an option.
