Winwin: If you weren't an idol what do you see yourself doing?
Yangyang: Working at footlocker.
Winwin: Why?
Yangyang: Employee discount.
Hendery: That makes sense. I'd probably be a rodeo clown.
Yangyang: You'd be the best rodeo clown.
Hendery: You'd be the best footlocker employee.
Yangyang: One day we will be.
Xiaojun: You're literally loved and listened to internationally.
Yangyang: Footlocker though.
Hendery: I wanna be a rodeo clown!

Tumblr media
• summary: you and hendery take your first vacation together, a trip to meet your family and visit your hometown • pairing: won kunhang x male!reader • word count: 2117 • to do
You walk into your apartment, expecting to be greeted by your golden retriever of a boyfriend. Seeing the kitchen and living room unoccupied would make you think he left already, but his shoes strewn across the entranceway and the covers you folded this morning spread over Hendery’s spot on the couch makes you believe he’s still here.
You venture further into the apartment, hearing a groan come from your room. You stop for a second before hearing mumbling and another cry. The second is louder than the first, and you start to grow worried.
“Okay, okay, okay.”
You hear him repeat the word more times than you can count and slowly open the door. He’s standing in front of the full-body mirror in button-up shirt and slacks. You watch as he straightens his back and smiles. It’s a much smaller smile than you usually would see from him, and it does nothing to help your understanding of the situation. “Hello, it is very nice to meet you. I’ve heard,” He stops and shakes his head. “It is- It’s very nice- It is-”
He groans again and ruffles his hair. He leans down and fixes what he just messed up, straightening his shirt.
You step into the room softly. You don’t want to disturb what he’s doing but also want to make sure it isn’t undue stress doing him in.“Whatcha doin’?”
He sighs and turns, shoulders slumping. He seems almost sad, and you walk forward, picking his chin up. “I’m trying to practice for when I meet your parents,” He mumbles. “We leave today, and I don’t want to get there and say something that makes them think negatively of me.”
You turn him around and stand behind him, pointing at his face in the mirror. “That is Won Kunhang. He is one of the best people I have ever met. I am very in love with him. I have told my parents and my entire family as much.”
“I want to make a good impression.” He states, criticizing himself in the mirror.
“You will.” You ruffle his hair, giving it it’s natural fall instead of the gelled-back style he had it in. “By being yourself. You can wear this shirt because you look good in it, but why don’t we untuck it, and you can stop worrying about using the exact right words when meeting my parents.”
He turns and leans against the mirror. His eyes are downcast, and your heart aches for him. He whispers when he speaks. “I want them to like me.”
“Love,” You sigh and wrap your arms around him. “They will because you are the sweetest, funniest, and most caring person I know. No one can resist loving you, Hendery. I couldn’t.”
He reaches up and picks at his bottom lip. You take his hand and hold it against your chest. The concerned expression doesn’t wipe from his face, and you hold his cheeks.
“Hello, it is very nice to meet you. I’ve heard great things about you, and I’m glad you invited me.” You smile at him and nod your head. “That’s all you have to say.”
“It’s not that easy.”
“It’s what I did when I met your parents,” You kiss his nose lightly. “If you want, you can even add a few things about me that you like. Say they raised me well.”
“If I wasn’t your boyfriend- if I was your sister’s boyfriend or your cousin’s... Would you like me?”
You wrap your arms around his neck. “If you weren’t my boyfriend and someone else in my family got to you first, I would be devastated I couldn’t date you.”
He looks down at you. “But would you like me?”
“Yes! Yes, I would like you. And I would be willing to bet my parents would have looked at me and said they wanted me to find someone like you.”
“Really?” His voice is small and hopeful, and you nod your head, trying to convey everything to him.
“Really. I promise. My parents will love you. My cousins will love you. My aunt will say she wishes everyone in our family could find someone like you. My nieces and nephews and little cousins will love to play with you and want to spend the whole trip with you. Now, put this shirt back in your suitcase so we can go.”
*
Hendery rubs his hands together. He breathes in and out deeply, preparing himself to knock on the door. You hold his hand lightly, swinging them slowly. “Let me know when you’re ready.”
He smiles, and his face falls again. He scrunches his face and smiles again, making small changes to his facial expression. He rolls his shoulders and squeezes your hand. He nods.
You bump your shoulder into his and reach over, knocking on your parent’s front door. It takes a second for your mom to get to the door, but when she does, Hendery’s grip on your hand grows even tighter. You smile at your mom, and she envelopes you in a hug. She pulls back and holds your face. “It’s been too long!”
She lets you go and turns to Hendery. “Hello!”
“Hel-” He’s cut off as your mom wraps him in a hug, patting him on the back. “Oh.”
“Come in, come in! Find a seat.”
You smile at him and pull him inside. He follows right behind you, bumping into your back when you stop sooner than he expected. You smile, introducing him into countless family and family-friends and people you’re not sure are related to but have come to every event since you were born.  Hendery sits next to you as you eat, asking hushed questions about people he’s met.
You hook your foot around his ankle and smile at him. “Not so bad, huh?”
“Get their honest opinions of me when I’m not around.” He mutters before stuffing his face with your mom’s home-cooking.
*
Music plays throughout your house, bouncing off the walls and entering through crevices and cracks in the building. Hendery wakes up in your childhood room alone. He sits up and sees the door cracked. He can hear your voice singing and laughing along with the song. He walks through the house quietly, not wanting to disturb the normality. He rounds on the kitchen, seeing you, your mom, and a young child dancing around the kitchen with wooden spatulas in hand.
You turn around as you dance, spotting Hendery standing a few feet away. You point to him and call him in, throwing your arms in the air. “Join us.”
“I like the view.”
You shake your head and dance over to him. You stick the spoon in front of his mouth, smiling wide. You stop singing, looking at him with hopeful eyes.
He sighs and grabs the spoon. You giggle at continue to dance along, singing the song as loud as you can without it being categorized as yelling. He starts singing along quietly, swaying back and forth with the music. Your mom looks over and smiles, picking up the young family member. They dance together, and she not-so-subtly hip-bumps you closer to Hendery. You grab his hand and start dancing with him, forcing him to loosen up. He watches you for a while before really joining in, hopping and moving with you.
Your laughs ring through the kitchen and up the stairs. You pull him closer and kiss his cheek. “Still nervous?”
*
You walk hand-in-hand with Hendery. You seem calm. Content. He’s enthralled with your face, your smile, how the feeling of belonging flows from you without stop. You point at a storefront not far in front of you, waiting for him to look up. He pulls himself from watching your face and looks over.
“That is a restaurant. It’s only been there for about a year. Before it was a restaurant, which no one really likes, by the way, it was an antique store. And it was run by this man, he was great, he was one of the nicest people ever, but he retired a few years back and closed it down. He searched for someone to take it over, but he didn’t have any kids, and no one around here knew how to run a business.” You shake your head. “He and his wife moved a little while after the shop turned into a restaurant.”
You smile softly. “My mom worked next door, it used to be a little boutique, and sometimes her shifts would last longer than school, so I would come here instead of going home. Sometimes I would sit behind the counter next to the piles of hangers, but I would visit Mr. Claude some days. He would show me around the different finds, telling me that there was always something great about everything.”
Hendery watches you as you look at the not great restaurant. The wind blows your hair to the side, and your eyes sparkle. “He would point to an old, stained china set that nobody would buy and tell me all about how if someone could clean it up, they would see that it was an amazing set that was passed down from generations, but something happened where it was accidentally given away, and the original owner’s great-great-great-great granddaughter had spent her entire young adult life looking for it but could never find it.”
“Or! I would beg my mom to buy this ancient stuffed bear, but she thought its eyes were creepy, so she never got it for me. He would keep it by the register and tell me that I should look for someone I thought was worthy enough to have it. And an older woman walked in one day, and I told Mr. Claude she seemed nice enough to take care of him. And, by some miracle for my 7-year-old self, she got some stuff and walked up to the register and started talking about how the bear looked exactly like one she had when she was a kid and how she would love to buy it, but she only brought enough money for the other things. I just lit up and looked at Mr. Claude like it was the best thing ever, and he told her if she could promise to take the best care of it, he would give it to her for a discount. I was amazed. I didn’t stop talking about it for weeks.”
Hendery smiles along with your story, your excitement at remembering your story exuding off of you. It makes him excited, and he never wants you to stop talking.
You point at a big, white marble building up the street. “That is the library. It is the oldest building in town, even the Court House is younger, and I spent most of my high-school years there.”
You gesture across the street. “The building there is the old school-house. There’s a park behind that everyone chips in to fix up and replace every few years for the new kids in town. The school-house is mostly used as a museum now, but sometimes Town Meetings are held inside. I don’t know why we have Town Meetings.”
He watches you, not worrying about running into the street-lights, too focused on listening to your recounts of stories. You continue to speak. You tell stories he can’t wholly follow sometimes, not knowing most of the people you refer to or the place names. He watches your hands fly up when you repeat something exasperating someone once said about your small town and giggle to yourself as you remember old inside jokes he doesn’t want to ruin with asking questions about it. After a few stories, you realize you’ve been talking for a while and look a bit flustered, ears turning red.
“Sorry, I know you’re probably not that interested.”
“No. No. Tell me everything,” He nods and holds your hands tighter. “I don’t want to miss any details.”
You sigh happily, bumping your shoulder into him. “When I lived here, I didn’t like it much, but after I moved, I realized I really did. Everybody knows everybody, and it’s nice being able to walk everywhere. I don’t know…”
Hendery kisses your temple. “It’s sweet. I like seeing how happy it makes you. Maybe we can get a house somewhere like this in the future.”
“Seriously?” You look up at him with a bright smile, eyes shining endlessly.
He laughs and nods his head. “Yeah, of course. We can buy a vacation house and visit on breaks. We’ll get to know everyone, and you’ll get new small-town stories to share.”
You bite your lip and nod slowly. “I would like that.”

[1:54am]
You woke up sweating, sitting up in your bed. You had another nightmare. Just as you calmed down, the opening of the bedroom door made you jump. Boyfriend!Hendery tiptoed into the room. He slowly made his way to the bed, lowering himself underneath the blanket, putting his hand on the small of your back
"Another nightmare, babe?" He spoke quietly. You nodded and nuzzled into his shoulder, tears welling up in your eyes.
"Aw baby, don't cry" he cooed as he stroked your hair. Keeping his hand on your back, he gently lowered you back down onto the bed.
You moved closer into his chest. "It's ok, I'm here" Hendery reassured you as his wrapped his arms around you
"Go to sleep honey, I'll protect you"

NCT Short Stories // 3 (HY)
Tumblr media
Their voices began to muddle into a giant blur of sound. Some members plus you sat all around the new kitchen of their new dorm, spending quality time together. It felt nice to see them since the last time was before they went on a world tour and Hendery was with WayV in China. They were just about finished eating the massive amount of food they all had agreed to order together and you had eaten your fill.
Hendery gently held one of yours beneath the table as they shared memories from the tour and China. A sudden wave of tiredness and dizziness took over your head, making it hard to focus on the story. You sat still, looking at one particular thing and controlled your breathing, hoping it was just a brief thing and then you would be fine, but it somehow got worse. You slowly leaned forward and rested your chin on your other arm, refusing to release Hendery’s hand in your other.
You took a breather, resting face down, closing your eyes, trying your best to surprise the sudden dizziness. The others began to get up from the table, cleaning up after themselves and began to clean up before moving on to other activities with the others throughout the dorm.
“Hey, you okay?” He gently rubbed your back, leaning close to you. “What’s wrong?”
“My head really hurts…” you spoke barely audible, hoping it wouldn't get worse.
“Here, look at me?” You slowly did as he said, meeting his bright eyes. He gave you a small smile as he leaned closer, pressing his hand to your forehead. “You’re a bit warmer than normal. Let’s go lay down, hm?”
You were able to smile through everything with Hendery by your side. He was your own little sunshine on Earth and you never wanted him to go away.
He led you down the spacious hallways, always looking back to you, smiling every time your eyes met his. He turned at the second to last room down the hall, entering his room. It was cozy with a single bed in a corner and a couch with a little table on the side.
He guided you to his bed, moving the blanket and letting you lay down. Before he got in himself, he went back to the door.
“Hey, what’s going on?” Kun asked as he approached the room. “Is everything alright?”
“Y/N isn’t feeling too good, so I’m just gonna stay with them and let them sleep,” he said softly as he closed the door, brushing away Kun’s worries. He approached you, adoring the way you looked in his bed and got in, snuggling close to you. It only took a few moments before you fell asleep in his arms, and he followed you shortly after.

Past.
You felt dullness take over, it's grey song fading the striking pain that had shot up your veins. Your eyelids drooped, your chin sagged. You shaking limbs collapsing by your fatigued figure.
“Help is on its way,” Belle said.
You were paralyzed by your own thoughts, your mouth unresponsive to your will. Lifeless, your bound body laid against a concrete post.
The help you wanted to cry out for... the help that never came.
Nobody is coming. You bitterly told yourself.
The women’s eyes bled with anguish, her movements filled with hesitation.
“She’s just a little girl.”
The other captor who had roamed about stopped in front of you. She bent down, her icy fingers tracing down the bridge of your broken nose. Her cat-like eyes remained unreadable.
“Aren’t they all?” She muttered.
“Have mercy on her.” The other croaked. “Please sister, let us end her suffering.”
The women before you, retracted her hand, closing it into a fist. “Mercy? Mercy was never an option for us.”
“Please.”
You could barely keep your tired eyes open.
“No.” The women stared back. She tilted your chin, her face inches apart from yours. “She’ll get through this and when she does. She’ll take her revenge on all  who dared to harm her.”
Revenge?
Gunshots fired in the distance. Your two captors were on their feet within seconds, digging out their guns.
“I hear at least five sets of feet.” One whispered.
“Are you afraid?” The women with the cat-like eyes mocked.
The other didn’t answer, instead, she placed a steady hand on her partner’s gun.
“Sage.” Her voice was low and filled with warning. “This isn’t worth it. Let’s just get out of here.”
Sage sighed, finally lowering her gun. “Let’s go then.”
Four more shots fired, the piercing sound ringing in your ears.
You grudgingly eyed the two masked captors leave for the underground tunnels. The woman who remained nameless turned back for a split second. She offered one last sorrowful look in your direction.
The lulling numbness continued to wash over you. Your eyelashes fluttering against your cheeks.
As darkness loomed, a scurry of footsteps vibrated throughout the vacant warehouse.
Hendery held his gun firmly in his hands, his chest pounding from the hit of adrenaline.
“Clear to the left.”
Hendery had been recently promoted to lieutenant. The pending danger he now faced was new and exciting. He relished in the thrill it brought him.
“Clear to right,” Yangyang called from the other side of the room.
Battered bodies lay idle on the cold concrete. Eight, maybe ten were dead? By the bodies were streaks of bloody handprints. The victim appeared to have been brutally dragged across the floor by their feet.
Hendery followed the ominous red trail. It led him to a concrete post in the far corner of the warehouse. A young girl was slumped against it, tied down by blood-soaked restraints.
Quickly, Hendery shoved his gun back into his holster. He ran towards you.
He hovered his hand underneath your nose checking for any sign of life. A wave of relief came over him as he felt your shallow breath against his skin.
He hummed, yanking at the ropes that bound you.
The sight of you was truly dreadful. Cracked lips, bruises stretched across every inch of skin. You had not an ounce of flesh on your deathly thin frame. Most worrisome of all were the fresh needle punctures on both of your arms.
“Where does it hurt the most?”
You couldn’t respond.
Hendery gently wiped away the dried blood that had trickled down from your hairline.
“I’m going to pick you up, okay?”
You felt the slight warmth of his body greet yours. He carefully lifted you off the ground, cradling your weak form in the strength of his arms. It alarmed Hendery how light you were.
“I’m going to get you some help.” He promised.
You came. Help came.
“Hendery?” Someone ran towards him.
Xiaojun’s mouth dried as he saw the pitiful human Hendery held in his arms.
“I need to get her to a medic.” He declared, “They can save her.”
Xiaojun reluctantly nodded.
Hendery ushered past, only to be stopped by a firm grasp on his shoulder.
“Don’t get your hopes up.”
Hendery blinked not registering what his brother was trying to tell him.
“She’s on the brink of death.”
Hendery shook Xiaojun’s handoff.
“She’s not dying.” He gritted his teeth.
Xiaojun sighed, watching Hendery leave.
It would be unlikely you’d survive.
───
Present.
You grimly smiled, snatching away a cigarette from the foolish man seated at the bar.
He cursed at you as you extinguished it in his pint of beer.
“Who the hell do you think you are?”
“Nobody,” You answered nonchalantly, taking a seat beside him.
The man’s eyes flashed with fury. You dismissed his wicked tongued and swirled your virgin Mojito in your glass before taking a sip.
“Miss?” One of your underlings bowed.
You flickered your eyes in his direction.
“I thought I told you not to disturb me tonight.”
The underling apologized, taking a step between you and the drunk man at the bar. He handed you his phone.
You sighed, placing it against your ear.
“I’ve been trying to contact you all evening!” The voice on the other end shouted.
“I left my phone at my apartment,” You lied.
“Nevermind, I need you by the docks right now!”
You rolled your eyes. “I thought you were laying low until this new regime cooled down.”
It was the smart thing to do. It was the reason why you were avoiding Brandon’s calls.
You had been smuggling drugs and illegal ammunition into the South's territory for the last year or so. You didn’t handle the goods directly, you, however, masterminded many operations and dealt with the cash flow.
The South had become a boiling pot ready to explode. The former Southern Kingpin’s death had brought unrest and Shujin, his ambitious successor had played a deadly gamble pissing off the Northern Kingpin. The infamous red snake Taeyong.
The rumor was that Taeyong had placed a bullet through Shujin’s brain ending his reign. However, a new Queen emerged in his place. The mysterious woman claimed the South as her own, running out those previously loyal to Shujin’s and cleaning up the war wreaked streets.
She had proclaimed that dealing was prohibited in her territory unless appointed by her. She was making arrests by the thousands.
Frankly, you didn’t appreciate the thought of becoming her prisoner and had been keeping a low profile in the meantime.
“Something big came up. A huge client wants us to move product from the West.”
You scrunch your nose, glancing to your underling who had the drunk man beside you in the chokehold. The two were hollering and swearing. You stuck a finger in your opposite ear and got off the stool to find somewhere quieter.
“What huge client?” You asked suspiciously.  Most of your clients had halted their activities since the Queen’s new reign.
“It doesn’t matter, they’re offering fifteen million with a five million deposit.”
The amount seemed too good to be true.
“Fifteen million seems like a steep price.”
Brandon ignored your concern, “The demand for goods has risen and so have their prices. I need you here for the bank transfer.”
Bank transfer? Your mouth soured. You preferred hard cash.
“Give me twenty minutes.”
───
The night was crisp and cool, the navy sky above was starless. The only light radiated from the pale hue of the full moon that hung in the distance. The inky waves crashed against the docks, spluttering watering droplets by Hendery’s feet.
Hendery curtly grinned, his hands resting in the pockets of his oversized coat. He leaned against his black SUV, patiently waiting for the last guest to arrive. Y/N.
He had been on this mission for the last couple of weeks and tonight it would finally come to an end. Hendery had been ordered by the new Queenpin to clear the cities and bring stability to their territory. He gladly obliged, arresting those who surrendered and punishing those who didn’t.
Hendery had had the most interaction with Brandon. Tempting him from the shadows wasn’t an easy task but luring you out was even trickier. You were the supposable brains behind his organization and had a hand in mechanics. No other smuggler had been comparable. The vehicles you designed to cross the territories’ borders were near flawless.
He anticipated taking you into custody. You may even have been worth a special visit from the Queenpin herself.
Join us or die.
A slim, silver vehicle with tinted windows pulled up.
You subconsciously played with the friendship necklace around your neck. The small golden bells chimed. You were here.
“Here she is,” Brandon announced, opening the passenger’s door and offering you a hand.
You took Brandon’s hand, carefully getting out of the vehicle. The refreshing wind blowing your hair behind your shoulders.
Hendery gazed over your midnight dress. It fell to your thighs and covered your arms, its draping material glittered as you moved. Your gorgeous face was full and filled with color.
Hendery’s grin faded as he met your round eyes, a soft blush across your cheeks.
You broke your composure, your eyes widening at the sight of him.
You were reminded of the hopeful little girl, helpless and pleading for someone to save her.
It’s you. Your heart pounded. I never thought I’d see you again.
Were you really the mastermind? Hendery dwelled, it unnerved him how sinless you appeared. A cute girl with a sweet face that rivaled the beauty of the moon.
He shook himself. Looks can be deceiving.
“Y/N,” Hendery stepped forward, reaching for your gloved hand. “I’ve heard all about you. My name is Hendery.”
You kept yourself calm as he placed a chaste kiss on the top of your knuckles.
He doesn’t recognize me.
“Let’s get to business,” Brandon interrupted, indicating for one of his men to bring out a laptop.
“Shall we.” Hendery pointed to the hood of his car, where his suitcase laid.
You nodded, swallowing what was left of your surprise.
You set up your accounts and prepared the wiring system. Hendery eyed your steady fingers worked the keyboard. Soon his team would be in position.
You felt the cold metal at your side. Hendery kept his cheerful demeanor, hiding his threatening blade from everyone else but you.
You were right, it was a trap. Unlike Brandon you had come prepared with troops hidden in the shoreline business. However, you hadn’t anticipated your target to be the one soul who had previously saved you from your hell.
Your men were ordered to shoot at the sight of any weapon, if Hendery were to reveal his intentions he would go down in a rain of bullets.
You took a deep breath, calculating your options. There was no way you could signal your men to retreat.
You stood on your tippy-toes. Hendery bowed his head lower so you could whisper in his ear.
“Please don’t do this.”
“Then come with me quietly,” He hushed, by your earlobe.
“I can’t-” You tried to explain but a roar erupted into the night as soldiers stormed with guns aimed.
They were Hendery’s men.
Brandon twirled, gasping. His hand was blown off before he had a chance to reach for his gun.
Hendery lifted his blade up against your throat. Your eyes lit with panic. Your men would start their fire too.
“Stand down if you want to live.” Hendery bellowed to everyone else.
You twisted your neck slightly to the direction of your men, the piercing knife slicing the top layer of your skin.
Hendery immediately lowered his knife. Alarmed by how thoughtlessly you had pushed against his blade. Slivers of blood were dripping from the small wound.
He had never once been afraid an enemy would resist him... not until you.
Hendery couldn’t comprehend any other alternative. He needed you to come back with him. He enclosed his hand around yours, pulling you to his SUV’s backseat.
Just as Hendery was about to throw you in. You heard your men’s violent gunshots begin, they screeched blasting holes into the unsuspecting soldiers. Hendery paused, furiously looking for the perpetrators.
More gunshots fired, puncturing the SUV’s tires and shattering its windows. Desperate, you hurled yourself around Hendery. To shield him, you looped your arms around his neck. Hendery’s eyes enlarged, confused.
You howled as shots tore through your flesh, you both fell off the edge of the dock to the icy depths beneath.
───
“Hang in there,” Hendery whispered by your temple, his arms were stiff, wrapped around your shivering body.
The both of you were under the dock hiding from the unfolding attack. He was treading water, keeping both of your heads above the water.
Screams continued. Hendery murmured reassuring words, refusing to let you go.
“You’re going to freeze to death,” Your teeth weakly chattered.
“We’ll get out of the water soon. Just stay with me okay?”
His chest pained, you had been hit, and yet you were still concerned about him.
She jumped in front of you. She took bullets for you.
Hendery nuzzled his face against your wet hair.
You were met once again by the darkness.
“It’s okay, It’s okay.” He repeated.
His soothing voice lingering with you.
You had saved him too.

[8:00pm] Hendery leaned down as you bit into your candy apple, and chomped on the other side, the sweet cracking under his teeth. You flushed, not ready for his handsome face to suddenly be right in front of yours. You could hardly taste the sugary flavor of the candy, too hyperfocused on the way his hair fell into his eyes.
He suddenly laughed, still chewing, as he saw your face. Your gaze flicked around nervously, anxious to know what was so funny. He started to speak, but you couldn’t hear him over the noise of the carnival, and you motioned for him to speak louder.
He ducked down near you once more, and you could smell the sweetness on his smile.
“You match.”
“I match?”
He raised his eyebrows and pointed at the bright red candy apple, then looked at you pointedly. You couldn’t stop yourself from blushing an even deeper red, which pleased him enormously. Just then, his eyes lit up, and he whispered smugly in your ear.
“Should I take a bite of you too?”

Yuta: *holding hendery like a baby* I'm taking this one and can I have this one too?
Ten: Yangyang? Sure, they don't do anything for me. Can't even give a proper shampoo and blowout. Take Xiaojun while you’re at it.
Kun: Ten! Not Xiaojun! Keep the other two though.

mornin’ ; won kunhang
Tumblr media
• summary: you and hendery sleep in the same bed for the first time • pairing: won kunhang x male!reader • word count: 689 • to do
“Hey,” Hendery attempts to pull your book out of your hands. “At this point, hun, I think you’re yawning more often than you’re not.”
You shake your head and grab the book back. You turn away, back facing him. “A few more pages…” You hunch over, eyes inches from the page. “Or maybe another chapter.”
“No, the mystery of whatever might happen in your book can wait until the morning.” He takes the book gently then half-throws it on the table beside your bed. “It’s after midnight, you should get to bed. Don’t make me take it with me.”
“Wait!” You try to catch it, leaning over Hendery until your arms hang off the bed. “My page number, Hen.”
“I put your bookmark in when I closed it.” He kisses your head and pushes you off. “Get some sleep while I’m gone.”
You shake your head and sit up. “You said it was after midnight, you shouldn’t walk alone this late.”
Hendery stretches his back. “Alright, couch it is.”
You sigh. You look up at him, on the edge of saying something. He raises an eyebrow at you.
“Something on your mind?”
You hesitate before offering. “You could sleep here.”
“I don’t want a backache from your floor.”
You open and close your mouth. You scrunch your nose, chest tightening. “I meant, sleep here. In my bed.”
Hendery’s eyes widen and his body stills. A small grin is close to breaking out.
“I understand if you don’t want to!” You nod your head and try to save yourself from any embarrassment. “I don’t want to pressure you.”
He’s still partially stiff as he thinks it over, but his smile is in full view. You’re looking at him with a hopeful but hesitant expression and he knows you didn’t mean anything less than family-friendly by the statement.
Both of you are each other’s first “serious” relationship. You have been or will be most firsts. You were warned about moving too quickly by most people you told about your relationship and it’s caused both of you to be pretty cautious. This means you haven’t slept in the same bed except for one of you napping while the other sits on their phone.
You avert your eyes. “I’m not trying to do anything. I just don’t think it’s fair that you have to sleep on the couch.”
He kisses your forehead and nods. “I know you’re not trying to do anything dastardly.”
“Dastardly?” You ask.
He ignores your question. “Get dressed. I’ll grab some clothes and text the guys, so they know not to wait up.”
You smile and nod, breathing out when he walks out the door.
*
When you both finally laid down and got settled in you were still slightly tense and nervous but tried to move through it. You found a semi-comfortable position for you both to lay in and fell asleep mostly pain-free.
Waking up, neither of you were in the same position. You were more relaxed and strewn over each other than you were the previous night. The blanket is pulled tight over you, your legs looped together, and hair stuck to your face. He wakes up first, startling when he sees your face so close but relaxing when it sets in as you. He doesn’t want to wake you quite yet but him pulling you closer isn’t enough to counteract his jerky movement.
“Mornin’” His voice is tired and his eyes are still closed.
You mumble something you can’t even comprehend, nodding your head.
“Sure.” He agrees. He smiles and pulls your hair away from your mouth. “You drool when you sleep.”
“No.” You shake your head.
He argues. “Yes. I’m sure I find it endearing.”
“Didya sleep… okay?” You ask, blinking the sleep away while wanting to dive further into it.
He nods, a gentle smile on his face. “I’ve never seen you this deep in sleep. Normally you’re pretty awake when I see you. I can get used to it.”
What he’s saying doesn’t completely register but you nod regardless. He kisses your forehead twice.
“Yeah, I can definitely get used to this.”
