Dot gets tense and a bit flustered around Nemo and the Elite Four.
She was that way around Nanjamo before when the latter read her comment too.

trick or treat
A random thought: Halloween in Panem
But it being more of a District thing than a Capitol thing (it sort of died out in the Capitol - maybe it was seen as too tacky?)
It's semi-celebrated in the Capitol these days, but mostly only amongst those immigrated into the Capitol from the Districts
And within the Capitol kids, Sejanus is the one to introduce it to Clemensia & co.
Sejanus made the mistake of inviting his friends separately (Livia said no. Coriolanus too. Clemmie agreed and asks to bring about Felix & Iphigenia)
It isn't too hard to get Felix & Nia on board - free candy usually does that for you
Their parents are a bit harder to convince, but they wear them down. Eventually.
It's mostly on account of their good behaviour (ie. there hasn't been any disappearing acts in the last month)
Clemmie has ulterior motives in going - she's trying to further the agenda that people from the districts are just like them. Starting with her friends and parents
The day of the 'event' - it's a little bit more like a block party than anything
Chaperoning adults: Ma Plinth, Aelia Dovecote (Endymion Dovecote tags along last minute - Strabo Plinth forever regrets not attending because he's all about connections. While Clemmie's family isn't as high up as Coryo's, her parents are alive and you can never have too many connections)
Free candy, a photo-booth of sorts, face-painting, costumes, etc.
Her parents garner some attention as they are a Capitol family that has no 'ties' to the District, at least not like the other families there. Not to worry the Dovecote charm is hard at work haha
The trio + Sejanus actually have a lot of fun
In the days afterward
The next day, Felix is insufferable and tells anyone who wants to (and doesn't want to) listen about his great time at the event
President Ravinstill can't tell Felix no, so unfortunately (for him), he has to listen to the full story. Probably more than once.
Felix has nearly convinced his grand-uncle that they have to throw a Halloween party next year! They can't be letting people from the Districts upstage them this!
In Felix's mind, the Capitol superiority is a bit different than how most Capitolite adults see it
He's the same level of insufferable at school
His classmates become a bit jealous with how he describes how fun things were. Livia and Coryo narrow in on only one thing during all this - Clemmie went, and they didn't!
~~~~
Bonus:
The next year, the President lets Felix throw a party for Halloween
When Sejanus invites the trio to the block party again, both Coriolanus and Livia insist on tagging along
To Coryo's (slight) chagrin, Livia had convinced Clemmie to do matching costumes in advance (white swan vs black swan)
To him this is a devastating loss, in that Clemmie likes Livia more than she likes him - the blond vs blonde saga continues...
Privately, he does admit Clemmie looks really nice though
that's such a fucking dangerous message to give.
oh yeah do exactly the opposite of what your girlfriend wants and betray her trust several times, assume you know better than her what she needs and make her feel like the whole world is against her, but it turns out her dad wasn't a total deadbeat, he was actually there for all your important life events, not that it mattered because he never congratulated you or said jack shit about it for 20 years, everything is great
oh yeah and he also constantly told me he was turning over a new leaf only to be right back at it again and again, and the most recent time he literally jeopardized my safety and my job, but whatever, water under the bridge am i right? at least he was lurking in a corner when i graduated from police academy
It’s only episode four!! You’re flirting and crushing on each other so hard!!! Especially the Prince! Stop it, this much cuteness only means bad things near the end of the drama!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He IS rude and arrogant. But his cold exterior is beginning to melt with her.
I’m not a big fan of the tsundere hero BUT I’ll allow it in this drama, because it does make sense.
Half he kingdom thinks he basically killed his brother to take his position as Crown Prince. His own father is ready to replace him as soon as he makes one simple mistake or shows one simple flaw, all because he wants more political power. Typical. The Ministers do not believe he can be a wise King (and some simply don’t want him to become one).
Also, poor dude (ha! I wouldn’t have said that of him two eps ago) is constantly paranoid because of that ghost letter, that basically said he would never be happy and everyone was going to betray him. But Jaeyi has entered his life by force and by persevering, she has showed him she can be of use to him. That she can help him get to the bottom of this mystery.
And the Crown Prince can trust her. Because she literally has no one else to turn to, like him. And she’s in a even worse position, ‘cause the whole kingdom thinks she is a murderer! It makes sense he believes her and it also makes sense he isn’t vulnerable and sweet in front of her yet.
i really wish i hadn’t gotten spoiled on the Big Reveal at the end but overall the ep was ok. it was Fun like how doctor who is but literally every character couldve used more character moments
It had its moments but the writers have consistently failed to get me invested in these characters so I just felt nothing for them
The Husband Diaries - Episode Five - coming soon but I need your help!
by Elvira_Writes
Hi loves, so I've just now decided that I would love to give you all a story to read over the holidays, but I am under pressure bc these aren't exactly easy to write when a whole lot of nothing is happening, Harry on Tour, Louis mia with that broken arm (which is my only inspo right now!)
If I am going to get this done by Christmas for you, I'm going to have to get myself a cracking storyline pronto!
So...I was wondering if you would like to collaborate with me on this one? Maybe you could tell me if you have a scenario that you've always wondered about between them, or if there is a conversation that you wondered how it would go. Or is there something you think they clash about? Or banter about? Do you think one of them does something that really bothers the other? Or is there something that one of them does that the other just adores? Is there some history between them that you wish someone would unpack or explain? Any funny scenarios you've imagined?
I'd love to hear your thoughts, no matter how minor you may think they are!
Last year, the lead singer of The 1975, Matt Healy, managed to offend a whole lot of Gaelgoirí (Irish speakers) when he appeared to mock a fan’s name – Dervla – at a meet-and-greet.
Healy isn’t alone, though, when it comes to anglophone bafflement at Irish names. A recent study based on an analysis of Google searches revealed the words that British people have the most difficulty pronouncing. The names Aoife, Saoirse, Niamh and Siobhán occupy places in the top 10.
And it’s not exclusively a British problem: I always cringe watching US talkshows where the host quizzes their Irish guest (usually Saoirse Ronan) on the pronunciation of their and other Irish names.
I’ve heard every possible variation of my own name from non-Irish people. It’s not uncommon in Ireland; in secondary school, there were four Niamhs in my class. But I rarely come across an English person who is familiar with it, despite the proximity of our two countries.
In case you don’t know, it’s pronounced “Neev” or “Nee-av”, either is perfectly acceptable. The prefix Ní means “daughter of”. My surname is trickier, and has even tripped up a few Irish people; it can be translated as Herbert, and is pronounced “her-a-vard”.
When I was living in London, I quickly learned that saying Niamh at the counter in a coffee shop or over the phone to make a booking simply wouldn’t fly. This led to the invention of what I call my “Starbucks name”. Anything easily pronounceable with a simple spelling would do. Mia, Sophie and Rose were among my common aliases.
Speaking to others reveals a litany of similar experiences. Aoibhe Ní Shúilleabháin, a designer and teacher, spent two years at college in England having her name mispronounced and disrespected. (Her first name is pronounced “Ay-vah”.) More than one lecturer resorted to calling her “blondie”.
She tells me: “I was asked to say, ‘Three hundred and thirty three trees’” – a tongue-twister that does the rounds on TikTok – “more often than I was asked to repeat my name.” She recalls the lack of interest when she attempted to explain that Irish and English are different languages with different pronunciation rules.
Clearly, the sensitivities at play here are rooted in history: Ireland was colonised by the English and our national language was all but wiped out. A language revival began in earnest in the 19th century, but it’s never quite recovered. Ireland’s most recent census shows that about 40% of Ireland’s population can speak Irish. The English destroyed our language once before, so every little throwaway comment and scoff at our names hurts a little bit more – and ultimately becomes just tiresome. A handful of people even remark, “Oh! I didn’t know Ireland had its own language,” when I tell them about my name.
Writer Darach Ó Séaghdha is all too familiar with these difficulties. (The “rach” in Darach is pronounced like “Bach”, he says.)He hosted a podcast called Motherfoclóir, a podcast about the Irish language and culture, and whenever there were guests on with Irish names, “inevitably the episode would turn into group therapy”. There was one bad experience, he recalls, when he was told that his surname “looked like a wifi password”. But he decided to give his children Irish names, too. It’s a common trend, he says, “because parents with Irish names have been battle-hardened”.
Like the others I spoke to for this piece, writer and director Rioghnach (think “Ree-nock”)Ní Ghrioghair believes that a sense of superiority among English speakers is to blame for the constant mistreatment of Irish names. But she’s defiant. “We are going to scrutinise the British for any transgression regarding the pronunciation of our names,” and other things, she tells me, like British media claiming Irish actors as their own during awards seasons.
There is no easy crash-course I can give to you on the pronunciation of Irish names, but you can always try out “how to pronounce”-style websites (which themselves can be contested). But the simplest and most reliable solution is perhaps just to politely ask an Irish person – and listen attentively to what they say. I may have accepted that English people are very rarely going to get my name right on the first go, but I appreciate a well-intentioned effort. Just don’t laugh at it, please.
