Thinking very hard about an AU idea of mine. Reluctant king Sabo AU!

In which Sabo isn’t saved by Dragon, but survives long enough to drift ashore and be saved by the doctors of Goa Kingdom, who do so only to ransom his medical bills from Sabo’s parents. Sabo’s parents take him back, thinking that his amnesia makes him a clean slate, but Sabo, young and stubborn and unsure of his entire identity, knows that everything is wrong and runs again, and again, and again.

Until at some point, he meets the Revolutionaries, and realizes that he can be useful to them, provide them information, make something good of an inescapable situation. From then on, he starts acting the noble that he was born as, in order to be a more useful informant to the Revolutionaries, until sunk cost fallacy hits and he believes that being a noble is the only way that he can be useful to the Revolutionaries. So at that point, why not take it all the way?

At 17, Sabo becomes one of Princess Sarie’s suitors, and at 17, he has doubts about using the princess for his own goals. Sarie is a romantic, and she wants a dramatic fairy tale of a romance, and she was already charmed, but the moment Sabo opens up to her about not wanting to use her to get to the throne, having lofty ambitions of helping the people (just not the people she thinks he’s talking about), Sabo becomes the one she simply must marry, because surely if she tries hard enough, she can make him love her back.

Soon after, the king and his son die. Sarie’s father and brother die. And while Sabo conveniently ascends to the throne, he also swiftly implicates his father, Outlook, in the assassination of all heirs to the throne, resulting in Outlook’s arrest and subsequent execution. And thus, at 18, Sabo becomes king, and begins to gradually institute great changes to Goa Kingdom.

Design-wise, Sabo wears an eyepatch because his damaged eye is considered a grotesque sight by nobles’ standards. Under the eyepatch, he wears heavy makeup to hide the burn scar. These are both at the behest of his birth parents, who spin a story about Sabo having been born half blind to hide the fact that Sabo had been shot by a Celestial Dragon and save face. To those who have seen his scar, they fabricate a second secret story that he was unfortunately kidnapped as a child. Sabo never does find out, until he regains his memories, where the burn scar is actually from.

and when you finally get together, it’s like you don’t even have to learn anything about the other. its likes you’ve been together for a hundred lifetimes, like your quirks have been ingrained into his everyday routine, like you’re the freckle on the lower left corner of his right hand. he falls into you, and you into him, easier than breathing. he just has a knack for caring—and learning and loving—about those he loves.

thinking about todd and his resolve toward… not quite isolation, but being alone in a room full of people again. he goes along to the study room to sit on his own and do his homework, he sits at the poets table and follows along with what’s being said while keeping quiet, he goes to the meetings at all but doesn’t necessarily contribute (in fact, if you watch him when cameron is telling the story ‘from camp in sixth grade’, you can see that he recognizes it before any of the other poets but doesn’t voice it until they all have). he’s not alone, necessarily, if you want to get technical about it, he’s just lonely, and he’s generally okay with that. he doesn’t have friends and that’s fine, he doesn’t participate in class and that’s fine, he doesn’t have a relationship with his family and that’s fine—he could live without any real connection and he’d have been, more or less, fine.

the thing about when he says “i can take care of myself just fine!” is that he isn’t really wrong, you can infer that he’s been doing it his entire life anyway, it’s that ‘taking care of yourself’ isn’t the same thing as really living or being happy. todd’s an introvert, certainly, and even as he gets closer to the group he defaults to sitting quietly in the background, but he’s also denying himself community out of fear not introversion. todd isn’t friendless because he’s an introvert, although that definitely plays a part, he’s friendless because he pushes anyone that might want his company away. if anyone has every wanted for his attention in the first place. (neil’s unwavering interest in him is unique (even when it comes to the rest of the poets, who are fine with todd coming along and joining the group, but aren’t really hellbent on him being there in the beginning) and his refusal to accept it is a direct result of being so lonely growing up.)

there’s obviously something to be said about the implications of his parents neglect, and the more than likely fact that he grew up friendless, and how those both play a part in in him being so skilled at dodging social interaction/being so avoidant of it, but by the time we see him in the movie he’s all but accepted his fate as being alone his entire life. he’s already accepted being the family disappointment, and he’s already accepted he’ll never amount to anything, and he obviously doesn’t like it, but he’d have managed living with that knowledge without the confirmation that it was all wrong. would he have been miserable? almost certainly. but he’d have managed. he’d done it for that long already, anyhow.

Just some things from the Kinnporsche SG show

-Tong kept getting the longest loudest applause during his intros and appearances and he looked so surprised and happy

-Us self-introed as “Queen Tay” and everyone screamed

-Jeff covered Bedroom from local artist JJ Lin after the first Why Don’t You Stay and it had very KimChay vibes, good choice

-Nodt made us cry during his segment, he’s really so earnest about Big’s story and we love him for it

-Barcode, after nailing his dance routine, took a minute to talk and he was so shy. He said it was his first trip out of Thailand. It was hysterical bc he was so confident for his number but the minute he had a mic in his hands he reverted to this 🥺👉👈 He said “I’ve been working out every day” then covered his face when the crowd cheered for him haha

-Bas and Job didn’t join in for the Sailor Moon skit this time 🥲 but it was still v cute and funny. Perth used the end to segue into the surprise aisle appearance by Mile and Apo (”Sometimes dreams really do come true, and we wanna make someone else’s come true too”) (AND THEY STOOD RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FRIEND’S AND MY SEATS EYE CONTACT WAS MADE I CAN DIE HAPPY) 

-Bas sang There’s Nothing Holdin Me Back during the Cumulus performance and Jeff sang Free Fall

-Build wailing on the sax during Mile’s This Love performance killed me, and Pong on bass was dope as usual

-During the thankyous Ping just started listing local foods that he liked lmao (bak kut teh and chicken rice apparently)

-JJ fistbumped the other guys when they finished speaking, big bro energy

-They ended with Ta DJ-ing a mini dance party and invited everybody to dance in the aisles, they threw dollar bills with their faces on them into the crowd 😂 

-Also, everybody did their intros and thankyous in English and you could tell some of them were nervous to speak but they were so good! They had a live translator but they barely needed her, they put in so much effort and I just love all of them and I’m so glad they’re going on this tour, I hope it was a good first stop for them 🥰

Klaus is an abusive character. He's got issues, but rather than dealing with them in his 1000+ years of life, he imposes them on others. Even his siblings are victims of his hostile temper like the toxic codependency we see with Rebecca. Imagine not being able to voice your ideas or opinions because the moment you cross this guy BOOM now you are daggered (dead if you're not his siblings), now you're to spend god knows how much time in a coffin till this guy feels like 'forgiving' you (happens mainly because he was getting bored). This clarifies why his (some) siblings disdain him.

Now Now, don't get me wrong! These are the characteristics that make him a good complex villain for Tvd also I get why would people love his character as underneath all his hostile blowup and narcissistic charm, there was an undeniable vulnerability: he wanted to be loved and accepted... Plus his childhood was very traumatic and I feel soo bad for the young Klaus (can I hug that little guy and tell him how's everything gonna be fine or take him away from all this? Then he might have grown up to be a better person), one can still see how much it still effects him. That's why his older brother Elijah kind of feels guilty about what all young Klaus had gone through and expects to bring out the good in him (like we see in The Originals, how he transforms from a villain to a flawed hero because of his daughter- this was what Elijah believed in and that's why rooted for Klaus).

So I'm all for a good redemption arc, everyone deserves second chances. This is why you can love this guy, BUT HOW CAN YOU EXCUSE HIS ACTIONS? It's like they glitter up and cover his actions and consequences with rose petals, ignoring how much hurt he had caused others without feeling remorse for one bit, and then these people would hate on others with the sole justification that "they were annoying". For example, why do these people hate Tyler?? He had such a great redemption arc in Tvd but got sired to Klaus, even after that he tried his best to not lose himself and even tried helping others, went through all that pain just for Caroline, got betrayed by Hayley, his friends were killed, his mother was killed by Klaus with whom love of his life ends up sleeping and that's not even the end... He has every fucking right to be mad but ends up getting punched jfhdhgh. Even Matt.. He's so much better than these murderers but they all wish death upon him. This is hypocrisy at this point.

Thus, I do like Klaus because of how strategic and intriguing he is (the way he gets mad with outrage lmao) and his unpredictableness is a chef's kiss, but this doesn't mean he's your goody two shows that fandom makes him be and disguise his acts to show him like a tortured essence.
