1. What made you ship it?

they literally COULD NOT have written a better love interest for ben sisko, and they put them together so thoughtfully. jake sets them up -- after a build-up where we see jake turning into a young man thinking about his future and really wanting his dad to have someone. i love that she's a freighter captain, a type of person in the ds9 universe who we have never really gotten to know, and essentially a grounding element -- she's a civilian living her own life who is (at first) totally uninvolved in the a-plot. and she knows about baseball!! the sheer joy i felt watching her walk in in her second appearance in "the way of the warrior" and they're already together and falling in love...

i couldn't find a great two shot of them so look at these caps from the "don't get killed" moment in the way of the warrior........ ROMANCEEEE

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

it's such a good relationship!!!! they're mature, open, respectful, demonstrative, sexy... every beat is so potent and it expands into episodes she's not even in. i love her, i love her for him, i love him for her, and i LOVE her relationship with jake. their love stories are both heavy and light ("it's a big step") but there's never a flippancy to their relationship ever. and hooooooly shit. for the cause. i remember my dad showing me the last scene of casablanca like "this is the end scene of all time" but have you seen the last scene of for the cause.

genuinely i think this would be THE undisputed together-on-screen-in-canon star trek relationship of all time if it weren't for the fact that kasidy is a guest star and, while she has a rich implied life and does develop and grow, we never get the full main character treatment with her like we do with riker/troi and paul/hugh (and michael/book because book is also a guest star but he's a driving force of the a-plot of a whole season).

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

i think most people probably agree with me tbh that it's an incredible ship that's electric on-screen and underrepresented in fanworks. i don't know if people agree that the last part of their arc was the weakest part because it was rushed (that engagement scene was so sweet though!! it's your house i want it to be our house!!), and i don't really like unplanned pregnancy as a trope (planned pregnancy? yes please!). like yes, her entire presence in the series has always been to serve his emotional story, but this felt different. until that point, her life between episodes was mostly implied until it intersected with the plot, but it was important to her and believable. in the final chapter it vanished completely, and i can't remember if she ever made that an intentional choice (or, if she did, if that choice was given enough weight).

They showed us what happens if DS9 goes to TOS. But what do you think would happen if the TOS crew ended up on Deep Space 9 via shenanigans?

you know what?? i think they ALSO would have had a straight up blast with some silliness and no lasting repercussions. the very same episode could have happened in reverse except the cold war vibes would be with the cardassians instead of the klingons. and given the kind of episodes that happen to the tos crew they would not be fazed at all by all-knowing aliens living next door or rapid modes of transit to the other side of the galaxy, you know? they would probably be surprised by so many different kinds of aliens all shopping at the same mall together, but i think they'd get used to it pretty fast.

the main difference they'd wrestle with is that the tos crew would be VERY uncomfortable sharing the station with klingons if this happened to fall during a season where there were lots of them around.

Discworld-wise, I think you’d like Jingo (admittedly partway through the Vimes books but it does take a serious look at the dangers of us vs them & looking down on other cultures) or The Wee Free Men (the first Tiffany Aching book). I personally have a soft spot for Moist’s books, which start with Going Postal. Night Watch is very good & hard-hitting as well as the source as why the fandom reactivates every May 25th, but it’s both the start of & rather late in Vimes’ storyline (time travel is involved), so it might not be the best read early on. I admittedly haven’t read all of them but those are the ones I thought of off the top of my head. Oh! Hogfather might be a fun December read, or sooner if you want more of Discworld’s Death.

favorite color: the cool-freshness of a just-risen-sun in early-morning in like, late September thru March, where everything is grey-blue and clear and bright and soft and shimmering and even the golden sunlight feels bright and fresh and cool, but saying “grey-blue” alone doesn’t adequately convey this 😅😂 it’s what I think of as a Tolkien color, because it’s like a Lothlorien or a Gondor or a Rohan (or a forest or a river) morning, it’s bright and cool and soft and sunny and grey-blue-wind-toned. yeah. ♡

Last Movie: Ah, gosh. HM. I haven't watched anything that's not a TV show in a while. I semi-voluntarily caught the last fifteen minutes of Scrooged over the winter holidays I guess?

Last Series: Last series I watched any part of is, as always, "Emergency!" because I will never not be stuck in 70's paramedic hell. If we're talking new-to-me shows, a friend's making me watch Grey's Anatomy (early seasons) once a week, probably because observing my growing despair about the characters' poor life choices is fun. I don't even normally watch medical shows, and yet here we are lol

Sweet, Savoury, Spicy: Savory if I had to pick

Craving: Some good spaghetti with olive oil and obscene amounts of lightly toasted garlic.

Tea/Coffee: Yes please, lol

Currently working on: OH BOY WHAT A QUESTION.

Spinning: Gotland on my spindles (4-ply, one single per spindle, for funsies - except I accidentally mixed up which bits of fiber go with which single on which spindle, so that'll be fun to sort out...), 7oz/200g of red Merino on the wheel (for a crochet hat, followed by 9.5 oz of red and black Merino for a woven scarf). But also 24.5oz/700g of grey Merino. And cotton on the supported spindle. And I've got some laceweight viscose on the mini turkish spindle that I should really work on...

Crocheting: Half a dozen things, including a lacy collar that needs buttons and blocking, a gigantic star-shaped wrap-around shawl, an incredibly boring granny square top for my little sister, and too many others to count.

Art: The Emergency! tarot as the eternal never-ending WIP; I also have some Dragon Age Veilguard related plans revolving around the Grand Necropolis and irl Catacomb Saints and I'd love to get some DA-style tarot cards done for all my player characters.

Writing: I still have a couple unfinished fanfics that need another chapter, as well as two deeply self-indulgent OC/Emergency! crossovers that friends are making me write, and I also have some Dragon Age stuff in the works - though if anyone will ever see that is another question entirely.

Music: Practicing various stuff for LARP; also slowly chipping away at Hozier's Work Song because my partner asked nicely.

the weird thing for me with tos is that i have never (!!) read or written fanfic for it, so i feel weird planting my flag on any particular ship, but:

uhura/chapel i mean!!!!! when chapel is helping uhura regain her memory in "the changeling"... 🥺💕 i haven't seen enough of strange new worlds yet to know how that backstory will impact their tos relationship but honestly they love each other.

uhura/scotty i don't understand why people disliked this so much in "the final frontier"!!! it doesn't seem to me at all like it came out of the blue. they both have respect and affection for each other in the original series and after going on the five year mission (and beyond) they have a close history together, so why not?? let them have a little happiness with someone who understands the most important time in their lives!! however i will say that any uhura/scotty pairing is actually uhura/enterprise/scotty with the enterprise in the middle because they are engineers first and foremost.

Ahhhh shite that's like the one prompt that i CAN'T do cuz there's only one character in this part of the story and the only other POV I could possibly do is literally my writing partner's job to write 😅 As recompense, I'll post bits from all the other prompts to make up for it for ya!

FIRST — The thing about being dead is that it’s a very distinct sensation, putting things if not lightly then the only possible way to put them because how does one explain the feeling of death to someone who has never experienced it before?

[He] doesn’t remember all that much about being dead, but he has enough of a recollection of the experience that now, opening his eyes and squinting into the glaring shroud that is sun-bright mountain mist, he understands that he is very much Not Dead.

Cat Grant & Peggy Carter?

I’ve...kind of done this already in several aus in my head that will never see the light of day because I can only shame myself so much, even on Tumblr. But yeah, they’re both HBIC, BAMF goals, they’re smart and they take no bs, they both run massive operations, of different kinds. Plus, not to be shallow, but damn they so pretty, they’d look more pretty together.

But yeah,. Put them in the same time period, have Peggy head of SHIELD, the super secret organization that no one’s meant to know about, but Cat is always bugging because government accountability, dammit. I’d go there.

so... i went a little overboard. angsty missing scene from the end of s4. 1,034 words. beckett/mckay. moderately unedited so bear with me!

He can hardly hear the monitor over his own throbbing pulse, even when he grits his teeth and tries to force himself to focus. To calm down. To quit picking at the seam of the blanket Keller had arranged just-so over Carson’s middle. (Because that was all they could do, wasn’t it?) The poison of that thought is what finally offers him some startling clarity.

Rodney approximates stillness, unclenches his jaw.

It could be worse. He could be gone. (Again.)

Shaking away the thought, Rodney leans forward, staring even more intently at the trembling rise and fall of Beckett’s chest. It’s irregular – but he’d always had his quirks, from sleeping with elbows and knees jutting out from the covers to mumbling nonsense Gaelic that had once (completely rationally) led Rodney to believe he’d been possessed by an alien (which was not beyond the realm of possibility, contrary to what Carter had told him about his so-called paranoias). But watching Beckett sleep, quietly or not, and watching him fight for his life – him, no matter the circumstances -- come with different sets of equally unsettling emotions.

Just like the first time, he can’t do anything to help him.

“Still here?”

To say he starts would be an understatement. Maybe the sixth cup of coffee he’d had brought to the infirmary hadn’t been the best for his nerves. Rodney wets his lips to keep himself from biting out with his usual sarcasm. It’s not Carson’s fault he’s got himself twisted into knots.

Well. It is. And that’s why he tempers himself.

“I.. Yeah, Carson. Still here.”

His fingers twitch where they nearly touch Carson’s. In another world, he’d have woken up to Rodney holding him. In yet another, they would’ve woken up together, blissfully unaware of hybrid cloning experiments and organic combustion units.  

“I’d say you shoulda brought flowers this time,” Beckett pulls on a wry smile as if he isn’t hooked up to more machines than he could count on his fingers. “…but I suppose the pollen would just make you miserable. And then me.”

Rodney blanches, frowns, then immediately begins to strategize. “I can get you flowers if you want. Katie—”

“It was a joke, Rodney. You haven’t left, have you?”

“Well if you mean… then I… you know… No.”

They hadn’t spoken about it. Directly, at least. This Carson Beckett had no memory of the six months that had taken them from friends to… to something more. Even without them, he knew Rodney well enough to know when he wasn’t saying what he wanted to say. (To be honest, he knows his poker face might not be his best feature.) And Carson could never pick up on his hesitation without diagnosing the source.

Rodney’s not the one in the bed but it sure feels like he’s the one being scanned. Evaluated. Deemed beyond saving.

Carson sighs, then coughs, and Rodney is glad for the opportunity to evade his gaze, no matter how short-lived. The second he can breathe again, it’s to say exactly what Rodney expects. “You can’t… do this to yourself. Because of me.” 

There’s no escaping the thread of bitterness when he says, “I can and I will.” But it dies in the air when he sees the worry deepening in the lines of Carson’s face, leaving him only with a stubbornness that has taken too many blows recently and, despite those fresh wounds, the hope that he can affect change where – and for whom – it matters most. “You of all people should know there’s no stopping me.”

Usually, saying something like that would start an argument. The spark is there in Beckett’s blue eyes, but, between the two of them, he’s not the one to lash out in defense when the real fight is one he’s losing every minute. Especially not when confronted with the inevitability of Rodney McKay. No one had gotten more members of the Atlantis expedition out of dire straits than he had, with the notable exception of the person he was currently trying to save. 

As if Carson can read his mind— “Can’t last forever.”

He might not remember it, but they’d had this discussion before. How many times could Rodney work himself into the ground to solve the unsolvable before he gave out? When you have the number, let me know. I’m keeping tally, so it should work out fine, he’d snarked. Carson rolled his eyes at him more often than Sheppard, those days – and that was saying something.

He didn’t need to last forever. Immortality had never been his fantasy. In the form of legacy, maybe… but. Even that felt cheap when being here – with everyone, his team, his friends, his… with Carson, who put up with him as much as he tried to set him straight, now and again, in his unfailingly diplomatic and occasionally colloquially-opaque way. Before Atlantis, he’d never really known any of that. And now… now he doesn’t want more time if it means… without— There’s no point if—

Maybe he’d taken Sheppard’s leave no man behind attitude a step too far. He’s a bit prone to excess. 

Rodney stares at Carson’s chest again, swallowing hard. Then he stands. It’s already been too long. He should’ve gotten Keller the moment he woke up. The lapse is another thing he’ll blame himself for if he doesn’t manage to get his plan to work.

In quick, nervous succession, he squeezes Carson’s fingers then swoops down to kiss his forehead, right above his eyebrow. It’s hardly more than a peck, but as he shifts back on his heels to walk away he sees his eyes squeeze shut, the ghost of smile on his lips – as if his heart were twisting a bit in his chest. Rodney knows the feeling. Carson… this Carson… He deserves to know it, too.

They just need a little bit more time. Nothing could last forever. Not even a nightmare like this. “And it doesn’t have to.”

For the bingo: Mace Windu?

Yooooo Mace my man!!!!

Mace is a good bean and one of the greatest Jedi there’s been! He’s kind and smart and brave and practical, his lineage is the longest we’ve seen that’s produced all strong and successful Jedi no darksiders lol. He can see SHATTERPOINTS! He’s a badass duelist and WON a fight against Darth Sidious himself and would have saved the galaxy if Anakin hadn’t interfered. And he’s just genuinely good and while he’s great on his own, he’s his best when he’s with the Council and the rest of his Jedi family <3 plus he’s a THEATRE KID! THEATRE KID SOLIDARITY!!!!

Fandom in general is awful towards him because they use him as a punching bag for all their anti-Jedi BS, with an additional side of racist tropes and he deserves so much better. Also he’s got a purple lightsaber bruh how cool is that???? 💜💜💜
