Delayed Gaming Thoughts

Since I’m getting back to the blogging business, here are a few quick gaming nerdthoughts I didn’t get out on 2016.

FFXV: Good but not great. Hoping for the best from the expansions. Shimomura is a goddess.

Tales of Berseria: Quite possibly the best Tales game. Certainly the best one since Vesperia.

The Trails Series: Deserves its rabid cult. These are superb JRPGs that know that great artists only steal from the best. The setting, battle system and characters are superb. I played all four games released in the west this past year and they were fantastic. The only major down side is that both Trails in the Sky and Trails of Cold Steel take a while before they get going, but WOW do they get going. Also there are too many Deus Ex Machina moments to make already cool characters seem cooler. Still, highly recommended. Looking forward for Sky 3 later this year. Dark Soul 3: Good, but I think I prefer Bloodborne at this point.

Dragon Quest VII: They actually made this game GOOD. I couldn’t get through the PSX original, but the 3DS remake does the series proud. Not as good as V or VIII, but solidly on par with IV and IX on the series’s second tier.

Dishonored II: Why is Corvo talking? Stop talking Corvo! Screw it, I’ll replay as Emily again. Also, this game is great.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided: Would’ve been nice if they made the second half of the game. There’s a line between leaving them wanting more and leaving them unsatisfied, this was a case of the latter.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE: Barry is a perv. Also the animations are too long. Good game, but I’m so sick of the animations. NEED ANIMATION SKIP BUTTON.

Bravely Second: A huge disappointment. Not a bad game, but it’s badly outshone by its predecessor.

Fire Emblem Fates: See Bravely Second. Only double the price for the full experience.

Persona 5: COME OUT ALREADY.

Shouldn’t romance be more like an adventure? I think it’s already scary enough, and past experiences have taught me how painful dating can be. Asking a girl out certainly takes every friggin ounce of courage I posses, and I think I’m pretty brave (you girls are just terrifying because your both beautiful and dangerous at the same time)

I’d like to think that I’m some awesome hero who anyone would join after meeting me just once (like The Doctor). Though that’s not the case. So how am I supposed to meet a girl and have fantastic experiences filled with laughter, excitant, and cleverness? Because t a good adventure needs those, and some good old fashioned action (though as a Christian I try to limit myself to a PG variety of romantic action).

Oh, sure there’s another key element: uncertainty. Isn’t that what makes adventures worth taking? It’s better not to know the outcome, that way we can’t be lazy and forces us to give our best, and not knowing the outcome adds the right amount of suspense. Besides don’t we won’t the best from our adventuring companions?

Yeah I think that’s the trick: we need to be so afraid of what might be in store that our efforts are endless to bring us to the point which has been our goal all along. When Frodo is on Mt Doom is the most dangerous moment and place he can be at, and that’s the same place he’s tried to get to for so long (I like using LOTR examples when talking about romance because the payoff of the quest involves a ring, like marriage). And it’s gotta be terrifying. When you look back at everything that you’ve been through, all the battles (dates) and miles (time) that its taken to get to where you are, you realize that these experiences have prepared you for that final moment (proposing and then hopefully marriage).

Romance, like adventures, is a gradual process. Both should leave us with memories and stories to relive with other people, but their always going to be sweeter if the people we shared those stories with are there with us while we retell them.

That’s my opinion at least, but I don’t know much about romance And my life hasn’t had that many adventures. Maybe that just means I’m about to start the great one I’ll be remembered for.

PS next time I go on a date I plan to dance around and yell Bilbo style “I’m going in an adventure".

Mind Blowing

It's so crazy reading about artists & scientists from previous centuries making claims about their perceptions of the world and scientists are just now proving these theories with technology and various amounts of research from so many professionals. These artists/ scientists had these ideas about the universe individually or thought out with a colleague but with such little means of communication. We have a stupendous amount of ways to transmit new information every second. How did they even think of these things?
