I like that rayner is an alien from a single random ds9 episode actually. and that they're giving us cultural references and showing how far these guys have come, that they're still here, that they're not forgotten. there are so many planets out there and star trek has shown so much but it often gets lost among all the usual vulcans and bajorans and what have you, so it's great to see that kind of old reference every now and then!!

Started playing Fear & Hunger Termina recently, started out as Da’an. Dude, I was so terrified of the Moonscorched in the early village by the Lake, and freaking out on voice call. One time, the dude fucking. Literally blocked off my path??? When I went to the other area, then came back, HE WAS STILL THERE. JUST STARING AT ME. I moved up, he moved up. FREAKY AS HELL. I even tried to set up a booby trap to maybe get him to step on it, then my friend laughed at me when the Moonscorched just stared blankly and didn’t move— IN FACT, I SOMEHOW MANAGED TO PLACE IT IN AN AREA WHERE I COULDN’T EVEN SEE IT? So I ALSO was worried about stepping on my OWN trap. And then I died to the Moonscorched ANYWAY and was just 🙃

And then I realized IN A SEPARATE RUN that you could recruit Abella (when I was playing as Olivia), and SHE COULD LITERALLY ONE-SHOT THESE GUYS I WAS SO SCARED OF, and felt so stupid. 💀 Da’an is a twink confirmed, Abella is a goddess and we absolutely Stan her wrench toss. 💕😩

I love the ambiguous ending of Alan Wake 2. This might be because I interpreted it optimistically, but the reveal that Alice is still around and has been the one helping Alan and Saga in the dark place was incredible after the despair of seeing her last video messages. and for that to lead to Alan (and the player) realizing it’s not a loop, but a spiral—that he’s not doomed to forever be trapped, but that he can rise out of this. This acknowledgment by Alan was the first step towards that ascension, rather than spiraling into further self-destruction. It might not have been a definite answer, but it was hopeful.

The Logan phone call cliffhanger was painful to end at, but for the same hopeful reasons and Saga having battled the dark place amplifying her existing doubts and anxieties, I’m choosing to believe Logan is safe! I still want more answers in the future, since multiple people are now in the dark place and characters like Mr. Door and Zane remain mysterious, but I like that this game wasn’t as clear as ’Alan escapes the dark place.’ It was an exploration of what the dark place is (to different people), being an artist, self-destruction and doubt, and so much more. Despite the first and second game both ending in the dark place, the journey and development the characters went through made a world of difference for what could possibly come next.
