Crutchie is named after Crutch Morris, so of course in fics he’s Crutchie Morris

Historical Kid Blink’s name was Louis Baletti, so Fictional Kid Blink is also Louis Baletti

And then we looked at Racetrack Higgins and went “this motherfucker is NOT named Ed”

tbh i headcanon that the newsies called him crutchie before he got his crutch because the boys can lean on him figuratively, coming to him for advice and always knowing they can count on him to pull through/be there for them

i doubt this will make sense bc i am exhausted but it’s always david, never davey, in my writing. personally, i save “davey” for dialogue and not narration- because i think it’s so much more poignant for the other characters to say his name, to speak “davey” into existence, to say that nickname and for him to hear it. because he can be david and davey at the same time. he doesn’t have to be one or the other. he can find that happy middle ground, he can be david and save davey for the people who love him and care about him and accept him for who he is.
