El 12 de octubre de 1988, Steve Jobs presenta la computadora NeXT que usaba el SO NeXTStep basado en Mach 2.5 y BSD 4.3 y un GUI muy avanzada que se basaba en Postscript. La NeXT introdujo varias innovaciones a los ordenadores, tales como almacenamiento óptico, procesador digital de señal para reconocimiento de voz y el lenguaje orientado a objetos, inventado por Ole-Johan Dahl. La NeXT fue usaba por Tim Berner-Lee para crear el primer servidor web, que se ubicaba en el CERN.

La empresa funcionó de 1988 hasta 1997 cuando fue adquirida por Apple como parte del convenio de desarrollo de su nuevo SO (Mac OS X)

High-quality audio capabilities, could sample sounds at a CD-quality rate of 44.1 KHz, using a 56001 DSP for the sound system, featured multiple ports, including two RCA jacks for stereo sound output, and 3.5mm jacks for headphones and microphone.

D.Y.K That Steve Jobs’ NeXT Computer was introduced on October 12th 1988 ? Hailed by Steve Jobs as a computer “five years ahead of its time”, NeXT, Inc. introduced their NeXT Computer. Due to its cube-shaped case, the computer was often referred to as “The Cube” or “The NeXT Cube”, which led to the subsequent model offically being named “NeXTcube“. The new computer introduced several innovations to personal computers, such as including an optical storage disk drive, a built-in digital signal processor for voice recognition, and an object-oriented development environment that was truly years ahead of its time. While not a commercial success, the NeXT Computer and the technology developed for it have a long and storied history. Tim Berners-Lee developed the first world wide web server and web browser on a NeXT computer, crediting the NeXT development tools for allowing him to rapidly develop the now ubiquitous Internet system. After Apple purchased NeXT in 1997, they used the operating system of the NeXT computers to form the base of Mac OS X. Eventually Apple’s iOS, which runs the iPhone and iPad, was itself based upon Mac OS X and hence draws its lineage to NeXT. Finally, the object-oriented development environment that Berners-Lee used to create the World Wide Web is the forerunner of the development environment that today’s programmers use to develop iPhone and iPad Apps. Steve Jobs being Awesome

There’s no one in the world like this dude - so many people try to be like him, but there’s no way anyone can successfully emulate an entire legacy of unparalleled innovation (mixed with pure genius, creativity, and rebellious independence). Despite where Jobs (and the other Silicon Valley pioneers) had taken their own influences and applied all of their knowledge - there’s no denying the amount of influence given to the world by all of their inventive work & ideas.

True inspiration is rare to find, but when it strikes it can strike like lightning.
