Pure fluff for y'all, with a touch of angst at the end. I know theres like zero demand for fallout 4 fanfic but I made a poll idk how nany months ago asking if I should make some Nick Valentine fanfic and I got a couole of yes and exactly one follower from that poll. So this goes out to the small anount of people who said yes and that one follower I got from it, theres nore Nick fanfic to come I've just haven't gotten around to it yet but I promise I'll post some every so often.

He loves playing with your hair when he thinks your asleep. Sense he doesn't sleep he'll join you in bed when he needs a break from going over files and lay down with you so he can olay with your hair.

It started with him sitting on the edge of the bed looking at the wall as he thought about his most current case but when you started to stir in your sleep, having a bad dream, he laid down next to you and held you in his arms whispering sweet things to you until you calmed dow.

He found himself enjoying having you in his arms. Thus started a routine of him slipping into bed with you every so often to take a break.

Normally he would take a smoke break when you slept but he found himself craving a cuddle more than a smoke lately.

Soon every so often turned into every night of him crawlling into bed with you and getting up before you woke.

One night he had been loat in thought about something and hadn't noticed you waking up until he heared your tired voice ask him what he was doing.

"What? Oh sorry didn't mean to wake ya." He said pulling his hand away.

He was surprised when you asked him to keep playing with your hair. More than happy to oblige he started playing with it again.

It soothed you back to sleep in his arms snuggling into his chest as you slept soundly.

The next night when you got into bed you patted the spot next to you with an expectant look.

"You want me to join you or somethin?" Nick would ask looking to the bed then to you. Nodding you head you gavw him a big smile.

Who could say bo to that?

Nick was now "going to bed" with you every time you were. Really it was him laying in bed playing with your hair as he talked avout whatever case he had currently going on until you fell asleep.

He wouldn't admit it, at least not out loud but he adored this nightly routine the two of you had going on though he never hid the smile on his face every time he saw you getting ready for bed or how fast he was to crawl into bed with you to cuddle.

Nick always played it off cool as if it wasn't the favorite part of his day or anything.

If you asked he would probably say aomething like. "Just doing my job to keep those pesky nightmares away." Or "only making sure you don't stop breaming in your sleep. You humans are rather fragile after all."

Acts as if he isn't often the first one in bed waiting for you.

Before he atarted cuddlibg you every night he would work straight through the night till morning. He wouldn't even realized you had gone to bed till you walked oast him yawning telling him good morning.

Now though? He reminds you every night at 9pm sharp that you need to go to bed.

He'll play it off as your human and need to get a healthy amount of sleep as he actively take his coat and tie off to get comfortable.

If you buy him a pair of pajamas to wear he'll laugh avout it and say he doesn't need them.

He's wearing them the very next day.

If you gad gotten them before he started cuddling you every bight he would just give you a weird look for the thoughtless gift and put it in his empty dresser to collect dust or to be used by guests staying the night. He didn't sleep why would he need pajamas?

Now though? Might own three different pairs

You bet they match with your pajamas.

If anyone else sees him in his pajamas he'll puff out his chest as he puts his hands on his hips. "What? You never seen a synth in lounge wear before? Beat it, it's time for bed."

Nick takes bed time very seriously.

He's big spoon. It feels weird for him to be little spoon

Wont fight you if you want to try big spooning for once but he wasn't really into it

Nick much more prefers having you in his arms. It helps ground him and reminds him that you truly are here now with him and bot some memory from the past seeping into his present.

That and how can he play with your hair all night if he's not facing you silly?

He will lean in every so often and place a soft kiss on your forward as he whispers a soft "I love ya." As to bot wake you.

If he ever lost you he would lay in the bed alone holding onto your pajamas as he tried to think back on all those nights he spent laying in bed with you. He would stop after a few weeks as it hurt too much but after a few years when he had time to heal he would start doing it again so he could feel like you were there again. Nick didn't know how much he missed this, how much he missed you.

Comforting Synth Reader

Gosh, you have no idea how happy I am for finally doing this request! I love Fallout 4 so much so I am so glad you put this request in! I honestly loved the idea so much potential angst (I only did a wee baby amount for this though afldjal) and comfort being born from it ahhhhh Lol, anyway, I hope you enjoy this, Love! <3 (I just had to do them all because I love them all omg)

Danse, MacCready, Nick, and Piper x Reader (Gender-Neutral/Nonbinary)

Warnings: slight barely any angst, comfort, game spoilers.

Danse:

Oh my, oh my oh my – so this could go two ways depending on how he finds out

BEFORE he finds out himself that he is a synth, he will most definitely end up being hostile

It is just who he is, because he is so loyal to the Brotherhood of Steel (poor baby) and because he thinks he is human himself before he will just be not comforting at all

Now AFTER he finds out he is also a synth himself, that changes everything

He understands what it is like for your whole life to end up feeling like a lie, how everything feels like it is and isn’t, your whole world just turned upside down

He is the one that will be the most understanding in this situation then and that is only after he finds out himself, and how the Brotherhood of Steel betray him despite him being the most loyal one of the bunch beforehand

He went through the whole thing having his whole identity questioned, stripped away, and having to mourn whom he thought he was, but he made it through. He came to terms with what he was and the fact that he is still a living thing

He vows to help you through it all and promises to be there every step of the way, whether that means romantically or platonically as well

Danse will try to explain how he felt with his own human emotions through it and how he went through the grieving of his false self full of planted memories. He is so patient through this and very confident you will pull through too (honestly especially with him taking the lead due to him being used to it), he expects you to pull through and he will carry you emotionally if he has to

He doesn’t push anything, and he answers any and all questions you have throughout the process

You can confide in each other about the whole ordeal, and it makes your relationship stronger

Awkward gestures he tends to do to help you feel better includes the awkward placement of his hand lingering on your shoulder but it does turn into your thing lol

 Robert MacCready:

Honestly, I can only see this man comforting with some awkward attempts to cheer you up, wrong phrases or words that may come out more hurtful but he is trying

After of course, letting you mourn with this new information, and through all the shit you have been through together, Mac will push you to get over it, in a caring way of course

Example 1: “Who the hell gives a shit – crap – I meant crap – you’re a synth? I don’t. If anyone else does, I’ll put knock their teeth out. No one’s opinion matters.”

Example 2: “Don’t let this information make you second guess yourself. You know who you are. I know who you are. This doesn’t change anything for us.” Honestly, this one is sweeter and will definitely be said if you’re romantically involved

If he sees it really is getting to you, he may get your other friends involved, if they are allowed to know if you’re a synth or not though

He does understand the issue, especially with the Institute scaring everyone with all types of synths, so he does understand why you are freaked out and would feel your life is a lie with this information, he does care, and he tries to show you when he is protecting your back at all costs

He will bring up Duncan a lot more, but just to say how much his son will love you and he knows that will cheer you up big time

If he does catch someone giving you shit for being a synth, he will proceed to go through with his threat and knock their teeth out

He also tries to make sure no one says anything insensitive when you are around places that are on the untrusting side *cough Diamond City cough* but of course, he can’t always catch in time so when he sees that their comments about combining synths and the Institute with evil together, he will be a lot kinder in his words and actions after that and reassure you later that night

 Nick Valentine:

The one that shows instant sympathy at the very start

He may not understand the whole losing a part of yourself as you realize you are a synth immediately, but as a synth himself he knows what this means for you

It means a bunch of commonwealth people give you crap if they find out, their trust instantly falling, the looks and even actions that they may take upon you

Hell, he deals with quite a lot of bullshit himself, but thanks to him being a detective and helping all sorts of people, they were able to see him as not just a synth but someone caring about their problems

He also knows you will come back from this. Besides you have him and Elle on your side and he will stick with you through the worst of it, while Elle for the hell of it works with Nick and receives some backlash herself for doing so

To help comfort you, he will show you what being a synth really means

He is a 2nd generation synth and because he is a prototype, he does feel like you have it a smidge better, and he does not hesitate to tell you. Since you at least were not named after someone else and while your memories may not be your own, your feelings were and that is something he technically doesn’t have with his along with an original name

He definitely brings up the original Nick Valentine and though he has feelings towards that past, and obligations he has, he knows they might not really be his and for that, he does try to play it off

So, he may not completely understand what you are going through, but he does try his best and he will constantly remind you that the love you have for him, your friends, and your “family”, are all real and valid

He hopes to see you see that one day

 Piper Wright:

As for Piper, she is such a compassionate person, but with the way she writes the newspapers for Diamond City, her stance may be a bit difficult at first

She has nothing against synths, in fact, she loves the Railroad for what it does, helping synths and in a sense, helping people. She just doesn’t like how synths are mainly used by the institute so going by this, Piper is more than willing to comfort you in your time of need

In fact, Piper is heartbroken with you at the fact that almost all your memories are not really yours, but she does have Nick come along and help you if you so desire it

She also explains how she sees you, and that you are a good person because otherwise, she wouldn’t have been hanging out with you for so long, she sees something in you and that is all you, not what the institute or some synth card may or may not have programmed you to be

She will definitely still write articles about synths, but in a different light, she will still write about how much she hates the institute and to be aware of them – how they are the true boogeyman of the commonwealth, but she will also write about how some synths we know (definitely puts Nick on a highlight here) and how nice and understanding they are, how all they want is a life they can truly call their own

And that is her way of supporting you, comforting you, and making sure that you know you are loved synth or not

Get the story done already! (5/? - Friends)

I’ve already started fleshing out one of Carol’s friends (Smart Guy), as they became important to the story (With Noble), so it’s not a bad idea to begin looking at the rest of them.

I spoke previously about using the five-man band template, and going from there:

Leader: Carol Valentine (As the face). Carol is the best at operating the Mecha, and is the second-best at its maintenance and upgrades.

Lancer: This guy is probably the actual leader, or at the very least they publicly have them as the leader. I think that he’s more of a cat-herder (Like Horatio in Watch Dogs 2). Given their combat abilities, if anyone assumes that the Lancer must be Cherry Bronze, they’ll be able to hold them off until the real Cherry Bronze can arrive. I think that the lancer should be a guy, or at least a different gender than Carol, if only to make it obvious that they’re not Cherry Bronze. Although, someone might overthink things (Like I did with a Red X theory a while back…) and assume that they use some sort of voice modification as Cherry Bronze to throw people off. Cherry gets irritated that she didn’t think of doing that, but alas and alack the Lancer is not Cherry Bronze. In order for this gambit to work, Carol and Lancer have to have a lot of trust in each other. By definition, the Lancer should be more of a foil, but I think this should be more complementary than conflicting. Normally, Carol is Lancer’s secretary, and on the field, Lancer is mission control for Cherry. Lancer is probably the team’s best communications expert. I don’t know if I want to make them the best hacker, but they are definitely better than Carol. Lancer is actually a better fighter than Carol (Obviously still worse than Cherry), but isn’t better than the Big Guy.

A bold, classic heroic sounding name (Brock, Clark, Adam) would probably be best for this guy. Carol is subtle, but the Lancer is blunt. I also like the idea of using an older, family name. I kind of want to call this guy Kenneth, like Wild Weasel’s fake name back in the Phoenix Guard. So he’s Kenneth.

Big Guy: They’re a lean, mean, fighting machine! Except probably not lean, and not a machine. They can be mean, though, I don’t really want another teddy bear (I prefer to play against type or reinvent it, if possible). I haven’t even determined a setting, so I’m going to decide that being nonbinary in my world is normal. I guess Mark fought in Vietnam, but honestly I can probably change that part of the story to “Mark’s family died fighting evil alien bad guys” or something.

I also like the way Voltron went in not making the Big Guy an idiot. But at the same time, I don’t necessarily want to expand the trope in the same way. I don’t really have anyone set aside as a chemical expert yet, so let’s make the Big Guy the chemical/explosives expert. They might be more on the forensic science side. Maybe they’re an actual detective? A private eye for the agency? Carol Valentine is more of a talker/diplomat for information, but the Big Guy is the master detective who can analyze the enemy’s plans and movements to uncover conspiracies. The Big Guy and the Chick are likely friends- the Chick might be more of a Dark Action Girl, the comic relief with underground contacts- perhaps a reformed criminal? This is veering off-topic a little. The point is, that the Big Guy is a detective and a forensics/explosives expert.

As for names, we know detectives like Dupin, Poirot, Columbo, Holmes, Clouseau, etc. I’m already drawing inspiration from Detective Conan, so why not use a name from Japanese detective fiction? Rampo, instead of Edogawa. Rampo also sounds tough, like a ram. Interestingly enough, Rampo is itself a play on Edgar Allen Poe. So nobody can get mad at me for copying when the original Rampo copied his name. I’ll also use Rampo instead of the more accurate Ranpo simply because “m” seems tougher to me than “n,” for whatever reason. Probably the rams.

Smart Guy: The Smart Guy is the best there is at upgrading the Mecha, hacking, and probably most of the science stuff that goes into their agency. Although I dislike not playing with type whatsoever, I think the Smart Guy has to be a wimp on this team- I have too many people who are good at fighting and I don’t really want the Chick to be the weakest one (Emotional intelligence does not equal physical weakness!). So if I can’t play against type, then I’ll go all in on the Smart Guy. He’s the smartest smart guy there is, but a mean-looking squirrel with a rock could kill him. This also adds tension with Mr. Noble, since because Noble isn’t really the nerdy type, he’s probably fit and has some combat expertise. The Smart Guy is not going to be able to beat Noble in a physical fight, even if he gets the drop on him.

I think that instead of being concerned about his physical weakness, the Smart Guy either overestimates himself (Like Steve Rogers before his steroids in Captain America), or simply doesn’t even think of it as a concern. Maybe he doesn’t even think that going on the battlefield is a possibility. He’s likely a basement-dweller, but not an introvert. He’s extroverted and easy-going, even with strangers, but is very focused on work and thus can spend several days without human contact (Or maybe even eating) when he finds a new project, or gets inspired. He might have a genuine trust in the good will of others- perhaps the Smart Guy is taking on more of the Nick Valentine traits than Carol is. Are they siblings? I think that the Smart Guy should be Carol’s big brother. He probably also has a code name- Victor Valentine, because he likes alliteration. This is apparently an online tweed suit store, according to google, but there are several real people who have this name. I think that a character in a mecha story and a vendor of tweed suits are distinct enough that the IP shouldn’t be an issue, and I won’t be confusing any readers.

Chick: From developing the others, we know that the Chick isn’t physically weak, she’s emotionally intelligent, more of a criminal type, and possibly comic relief. She’s the rogue of the group, the lock-breaker. Victor might be the better hacker, but the Chick will just look at the post-it on the monitor to enter in the password, or maybe investigate the victim’s pet names for password clues. She comes from the poorest socio-economic background, and can keep the team grounded and focused on the real issues the city faces (The nation? I’m a little unclear on the setting’s scale, still). She’s able to connect with the criminal underground not because of her tough attitude, but because of her willingness to listen. She’s the kind of person strangers will open up to, although at times she finds it annoying to hear about a fellow bus passenger’s divorce issues. She has a lot of random skills, and is a quick learner, although she gets bored easily studying one thing for too long. She’s got the least formal expertise, and is able to do a lot of things but not describe the theory, or use the proper jargon.

She’s got a mean personality like Rampo, but unlike them, is far more willing to open up to others and be patient. I’m not sure what to do with her on names. I’m tempted to go with a more neutral name, like Alex, at the risk of seeming tacky. Maybe Lexa? I don’t think there’s very many Lexa’s, most people are Lexi if they shorten it that way. It also feels a little more modern, and I think that Lexa and Victor are all about the cutting-edge.

 So in conclusion, the heroes are Carol Valentine/Cherry Bronze, Kenneth, Rampo, Victor Valentine, and Lexa. The villains are Aqua Black and Mr. Noble. Though I’m seeing an immediate problem with the names, at least with the heroes. All the names have two syllables. This is a no-go.

Victor can be Victoria (And we’ll make him a her instead, now). Lexa can be “Lee.” I may as well go all in if I’m on the fence about choosing a more neutral name for the character without seeming tacky or cliché. Kenneth can be called “Ken” by his friends. That gives us two (three?) two-syllable names (Rampo, Carol, Cherry), two one-syllable names (Ken, Lee), and one four-syllable name (Victoria). That should be enough for us to avoid the names starting to blend together. I also prefer a more “regal” name like Victoria contrasted with Mr. Noble. Cherry Bronze and Aqua Black are fine having the same word-syllable structure since their similarities are supposed to be recognized. Mr. Noble is the only one called by his last name, which should ‘feel’ different.

Next time, I think we’re ready to start looking at the character dynamics a bit more in-depth. This will open up opportunities for stories.
