On this day in 1989, Nigel Mansell, the greatest overtaker in F1 history, started the Hungarian GP from 12th position in this beautiful Ferrari 640. This was track already notorious for being almost impossible to pass on. A track where starting from pole position was as important as it was in Monaco. Some of you might recognise this man. If you don’t, this is Nigel Ernest James Mansell from the Isle of Mann. Nigel was the 1992 FIA Formula One World Drivers Champion, and the 1993 CART Indycar World Series Drivers Champion back to back. He took part in 187 races, took 32 pole positions, and 31 race wins in Formula One. He also took part in 31 races, took 10 pole positions and 5 race wins in Indycar. And today is our Nige’s 69th birthday. And it’s 30 years this year since his F1 World Championship year.
