ok. today i have spent time looking through tales of berseria posts & blocking ppl for hating on melchior and bienfu which I think means it's officially time for my opinion now.

notes:

1. aifread looked way cooler as a daemon. his whole deal was ok & "i know that fist" was hysterically funny but he shoulda stayed daemoned. i dont want to look at bargain bin johnny depp ever.

2. the fact that innominat talks like boring yassified laphicet was predictable but still sucks

3. whoever made this tiermaker did not include turtlez OR morgrim and i think that's a criminal offense. #bolyfuckturtlez #mashedpotatoescat #letmeheappraiseuponthem

3.5. also the dogs and the bird i guess. is that all the therions? i forget. stop centering medissa so much her story was dumb. justice for orthie&russ

4. there are like 2 text boxes in this game where they accidentally wrote "melissa" instead of "medissa" & the voice actors just kind of went with it though which was pretty funny

5. kamoana voice actor GOOD.

6. the kurogane sword should be capable of speech i think. it's only right

Something short??? From a word slurger like ME?! But yeah anyway, this was initially going to be longer but after looking over it I realized the first section worked pretty well all on its own. I might rework the other parts into separate fics or new chapters someday but for now, have a tiny pre-canon Niko/Velvet sucker punch

I WAS TOTALLY THROWN OFF BY HOW SWEET AND INNOCENT AND HAPPY GO LUCKY VELVET WAS BEOFRE THE TRAUMA TM i was like "this is weird to see" LMAO

i 100% knew that Laphicet's days were fucking numbered but i did NOT expect him to be killed so brutally. Velvet might not be my type of character, but I'll give them this: They have me invested and Im not fucking resting until Arthur is dead in the fucking ground. We'll get him Velvet, dont you fucking worry. (also Velvet's voice acting was phenomenal)

Also, Velvet's friend in the village, Niko. I SUPER fucking liked her and i got SUPER gay vibes from her and Velvet, like are u for real. "If you wnere a boy, I would be in love" YOU CANT JUST SAY THINGS LIKE THIS they had to kill Niko bc she was too powerful otherwise.

Seres dying was also fucked up. The crunch and then the arm slump was traumatizing LMAO

I DO really love Magilou (idk if i spelled this rght) and Rokurou (also dont know if i've spelled this right) and I think, right now, they are my favorites. Havent gotten to play as them yet.

I stopped right after seeing the Laphicet clone run off with the compass. Super excited to keep playing. Maybe I'll make an actual video off of what I recorded.

thinking about velvet and niko from tales of berseria again

I...honestly don't know what brought this on, but last night as I was turning in I asked myself: is there any LGBT content in Tales canon that isn't bait? There are the hetero endgame couples that are present in the majority of the entries, but that's pretty much a given because if it's het they can't leave it UP TO INTERPRETATION; so that made me think about parts of it that are/might be queer.

The earliest things I can think of are about how Vesperia's OP song is clearly describing Yuri and Flynn's relationship, and the whole Rita/Estelle thing (to the point where it got referenced in-game and in that one TalesFes skit - but I've never actually played Vesperia, and I don't know if it's meant to be a genuine pair or a case of "LMAO it's two girls being friendly but we're not making them That Friendly" or even if it's just a matter of "Rita didn't have any friends growing up but she meets Estelle and latches onto her because she's the first person to actually treat her nicely and normally").

The Xillia duology...I think Milla counts? Because she mentions that gender doesn't really matter to her but she takes on a female-presenting form and goes by she/her pronouns, anyway.

Then you have Sorey and Mikleo in Zestiria, which AFAIK and as far as I'm concerned it's pretty much canon (I know Baba Hideo's gone from the company, but from my understanding he was very in-depth with commenting on the depth of their relationship), and...whatever the fuck's up with Velvet and the Eleanor/Niko parallelism (I distinctly remember Tomizawa saying once in an interview that he 'can't comment on the queerness in Berseria', and that always struck me as odd).

From the mobile titles, from what I remember: I think the English version made it vague (like Berseria's did), but in the JP version for Crestoria IIRC Vicious makes a comment about Aegis being canon gay. There's Mileena in Rays, too, being very vocal about how cute she finds all the girls. And then in Luminaria - which I think the fandom has agreed is arguably the most queer-coded - we have Charles who is, I think, the first non-binary character in the series (Raoul asks them what pronouns they prefer to go by). I can probably list other notable mentions, but I feel those might venture more into viewing them from a shipping light (that's hinted but not confirmed) and not a canonical light (that's hinted and confirmed).

I thought it was an interesting little thought exercise, but maybe somebody who knows the franchise better than I do can correct me on some of this, and on other entries I may have missed or in some of these entries here I'm positive I overlooked.
