I just got my package in from @nkim-doodles and all the cute art just made my day ^_^ I am already planning on how to spread it out around my bedroom to be surrounded by cute :3 The foil prints looked pretty in the shop, but they are just so perfect in person!!!

Sweets and Naga

aka. I tried out @nkim-doodles ‘s sweets-cats concept, as they have inspired me a lot lately to draw again, and most importantly try myself at digital painting again. The rest shows that well.

I’ll be honest—I was driven to finish out Shepherd Boy v5 this evening almost exclusively by spite. I didn’t want to post another anatomy sketchbook page because it would make the thumbnails on my Instagram look boring and monotonous. So, I set a timer for 20 minutes and proceeded to spend the next hour finishing off the highlights and shadows.

This rendering was inspired by Nadia Kim (@nkim-illustrates and @nkim-doodles on Tumblr). I first found her work through a friend while we were both looking for examples of great color work. A lot of Nadia’s recent stuff has been environment and color studies for a project she’s tagged “Toasty Eye Forest Rangers” and “Honey Milk Tea Fox Series” (lots of food/dessert themes. Might be why her animal characters are so soft and poofy?) that have this really nice balance of light and shadow. The environments in this series tend toward indoors with really bright directional lighting coming from large windows, so there are huge highlights. I made them a bit smaller on mine, because I wanted to hint at maybe a nighttime/dusk environment, but I followed the same hue shift: where all the shadows were shifted toward violet, all the highlights were shifted toward yellow-green. Very bright, very white.

I think it’s interesting that the light specifically is yellow-green instead of just yellow, because all the light is filtered in through the windows, but I don’t think it’s specifically the sun shining through. It’s just the high ambient lighting, which means the color of the light is directly influenced by the blue of the sky. I just think that’s a super neat detail to include.

@the-electric-manectric’s Follow Forever !

During the 4-5 years since I made this blog, I’ve never actually made a follow forever before. Regardless, countless of you have chosen to include me in your ff’s, and even to this day it puts a smile on my face to be included. I thought that I would *finally* return the favour to those who reached out to me and to those who I look up to! A lot of you have inspired me and kept me entertained time and time again, and I don’t think that I could ask for a more enjoyable experience. Tumblr is definitely a hellhole of a site, but I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. 

There’s a crap ton of people that I probably missed, but I tried to include everybody that I wanted to.
