i’ve stopped expecting interesting animation from bones. the star and stripe fight is cool but like every other fight/moment in mha, it’s only cool bc the source material itself is cool; bones does nothing to elevate the manga

they rarely try to experiment with colour and style. i saw so many colourings of the moment star and stripe made a giant version of herself out of the air; people made her look like a cosmos, like it reflected and bent the sky around her, doing so many inventive things and for the anime to just make her an outline against that godforsaken sky? i’m disappointed

but people will take me saying i’m disappointed and spin it to me saying the fight was bad. it wasn’t, just like most fights and moments in the anime aren’t bad but that’s all bc horikoshi knows how to draw. they never do anything beyond that; they never try and adapt it. whether it’s bc of time, direction, budget, or what have you, they will never do something truly inventive with their colouring

i’ve said this before and i’ll say it again, it’s not just that the sky is blue; it’s what the blue sky represents and that is an unwillingness to broaden their colour palette or atmosphere to support the changes in the tone of the story. the story isn’t just “will midoriya get into his dream high school and achieve his dream job?” it’s child abuse and societal systems and their dysfunctions, it’s racism and morality and is it right to try and save someone who’s determined to destroy the world just bc they are also a victim?

look at the finale of atla, a show that mirrors the narrative tone of mha; it starts out bright and colourful and vibrant to match the happy and small stakes nature of the story and as the tone of the story changes, the environment changes to reflect that. the siege of the north pole? everything goes blood red when the moon spirit is threatened, then goes completely desaturated when it is killed with only fire bending having any colour. the day of black sun? uses a solar eclipse to change the lighting. the entire sozin’s comet fight? has red skies and lighting to show the threat

bones abject refusal to change anything about the art itself is a detriment to horikoshi’s complex narrative

watched the first two episodes of the one piece live action and i… don't hate it? i don't know how i feel about it yet, but its not bad. at the very least i deeply respect how different it is from the source material. its clear that the people behind this project understood that trying to make "a shot for shot copy of the manga but in live action" would be a total failure. They could never capture the manga's cartoon-y action or fantastical vibes, so instead they're going for a more down to earth but achievable feeling of "pirates of the caribbean but with more fantasy elements." i respect that.

They're playing to their strengths, like their fantastic casting and character interactions. I just got to the part where luffy sees the going merry for the first time in episode 3 and it was just *chefs kiss* perfect. I'm interested to see where it goes from here.

the pluto anime ends its episodes on moments like these, but they still feel like theyre being delivered way too quickly somehow, and then also sometimes that thing where an anime changes the feeling of the manga's scene. i think also the colors in the anime make it feel different somehow.

But especially Frieren. I haven't felt this fulfilled from watching a fantasy anime series since FMA. Seriously, everyone should read/watch Frieren: Beyond Journeys End. And Witch Hat Atelier.

I really will never be over the loss of Tales of Crestoria. That game closing absolutely gave me gacha abandonment issues lol. The story was such a fucking masterpiece and really really spoke to me on a personal level. That game should never have been on mobile. That should've been a complete console release. It genuinely helped me with some shit too, but noticing the trend with Cresty and Good Night World, it seems like those kinds of stories don't really resonate with the general public. So I'll just go fuck myself then I guess.

Ykno the common critique I've seen around is that trimax fights r hard to follow & such. And I've always had the kind of thought of like "I mean sometimes it can be confusing, but if u stop to study it it's really not that bad"

Having a fight analysis post kinda blow up tho I'm seeing ppl comment over and over in the tags about how hard it is to keep up with the fights... and I'm just like. Is it really that confusing? I could dissect the entire video, but there's just 1 point I'll speak on.

In that video begining at 14:50, MasakoX said that the manga versions of Goku & Vegeta work together against Jiren in the ToP while he speaks as if the anime versions couldn't work together. ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE. Goku & Vegeta team up against Jiren in DBS EP 123. What he omitted was this...

The DBS manga continuity had Goku & Vegeta perfectly in sync when fighting Jiren.

The DBS anime continuity had Goku & Vegeta unable to perform a properly coordinated attacks, but that lack of synergy is what was making it difficult for Jiren to combat. Regardless, they still fight as a team.

That was just MasakoX trying to make the manga look better by stretching the truth, omitting crucial details, & even spreading misinformation wether he purposely did so or not.

He also states that the manga version highlights their team up more than the anime...

THIS is the episode where Vegeta got Super Saiyan Blue Evolution.

THIS is the episode where SSBE Vegeta teamed-up with SSBKK Goku & pushed Jiren back.

Those are 2 important and awesome scenes in the DBS anime that take place the same episode. The anime version is obviously more memorable than the manga version for those 2 reasons alone.

I don't often watch his videos. Sometimes I'll watch one or two every so often to see if he's changed in some positive way. i stopped watching some youtubers because they changed in a negative way. Others youtubers I started watching more often because thier change was a positive one.

Hello, I just saw the anon ask talking about you not being on tumblr that much anymore and we don't really talk to eachother (I think we only ever exchanged messages once), but I wanted to say, while I can, that I have wonderful memories of this website and a lot of them include seeing the mangacaps that you reblog or reading your tags, including all of the occasional venting and even some of the adorable auntie stories.

If you allow me to ramble a little bit, I want to talk about the blog that you called "shitty" and how I think it is actually really cool.

You might not think that you do much because you mostly just reblog stuff, but I feel like all the mangacaps that you reblog are more meaningful than most people think. I think that they are an act of self-expression and throughout the years I've felt like those kinds of posts express a desire that people have to be more honest with their feelings and put them out into the world. I've felt like the mangacaps, combined with all of your text posts, probably do accomplish some of this.

I am not going to say that your blog changed how I view life or anything like that, but I can say that your blog, along with many other similar ones, have seriously been a part of my journey of better understanding myself.

For example, today I liked a post that had a guy feeding a cat in it. And I didn't like the post because the art was amazing. I liked it because I thought that the guy is gentle and that aspect of gentleness resonated with me personally. And obviously, there are times where I might like a post just because I think that the art looks cool, but I think that a lot of times when I'm browsing through tumblr I'm just learning more about myself through the things that I like.

Maybe the whole thing isn't supposed to be that deep, but sometimes (not always) for me it is. I think that this whole thing feels unreal for you because you don't put a lot of effort but I think that it is pretty cool that a bunch of people like the blog despite that.
