This is a fake picture. Swipe left for truth😂😩 Shark baby hasn't slept in almost an entire week. I think now it has more to do with jet lag than anything but it's ROUGH. Normally I do nights on my own because "what's the point in waking Dennis up when I'm just breastfeeding anyway" buuut now it's gotten to the point now where I lie there awake, angry - angry! - at my husband for sleeping peacefully while baby fusses and kicks her legs around all night long. So! Last night I made him stay up with me to help🙈 Big mistake😂😂😂(huge) (yes that was a pretty woman reference) - this man cannot cope without sleep. Not even a little bit! Today I've dragged around two babies🙃😂 We took this photo at lunch after struggling through the hardest day ever and we look like two totally normal happy people so I can't post it in good faith when in reality we are so exhausted we almost fell asleep sitting up on the subway and we've snapped at each other too many times to count today. God. WE NEED SLEEP! This guy is doing a full Iron Man on Saturday and I'm leading a retreat on Thursday and aside from that, if I don't get a few straight hours of rest I think I'm going to do something wildly odd like forget to put pants on and leave the house or leave all the faucets in the apartment on (both of these things happened today). Tonight my mom is going to try to take the baby and we'll see what happens. I'm skeptical. Help us pray to all the sleep gods please! Any idea what you are looking at? The aftermath of attempting to take a shower in peace while my parents took the girls to the park. But I got a phone call as I was about to get in so I only had minutes to spare! The girls walked in from the park and decided to watch mommy shower, they stood there staring at me, asking me to draw shapes and letters on the glass, to press my butt up against the shower door, the little one just stood there with her bag of popcorn, shoveling it in, like she was at a movie. "Mama, may I love on you? I haven't gotten much love today." We often say this to each other and as a family. An ask, give, and receive. I have not shared much about my son publicly in the last year and a half. For various reasons and odd encounters. I was much more open about his life before he started school. Things seemed so much easier then, a time where I feel like I could protect him and nurture him as best I could. When I look back, many of those days were hard, nobody teaches us how to mother, we only have the experience. Now, days are much harder but different. He is easy. Yet the world is hard. Everyday, I have to trust that this world will take care of him. In truth, school has been really hard for us. He has had to learn that others are not always kind. He has had to learn that some of his peers don't get to grow up knowing kindness in their own homes. He has had to learn what it feels like to choked, pushed down and kicked by another kid. He has heard words and phrases that question his own judgment and reaction in this world. He has had to learn to speak up for himself. He has had to learn what it means to be a good friend. And thank baby jesus for the few that have been wonderful to him and he to them. Some days, he says he's happy to play by himself and I have to trust that he truly is happy to be alone. And I can because at times, I was that same loner kid on the playground. I think the hardest part right now, is knowing that world will teach him things that I cannot or will not. I was raised by the belt and I refuse to show him the hand of broken trust. A world hellbent on tough. I want to protect him and let him be him. Yet everyday, he's molding into his own, navigating the world in all the ways of its upset and wonder that encompasses as a whole. My hope is to continue teaching him the kid version of "do no harm but take no shit." Day 29 for #yogaeverydamnday is to practice off the mat. Have a shit ton of trust in this world. Raise up the kindness lever. Cue up the compassion. And have loads of fucking patience. This is the #holymotherhood and #nobullshitmotherhood journey. #dontbeanasshole #yogagirlchallenge with @yoga_girl
