When we last checked in on how things were looking with the time we have left with Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Colin (Mark Proksch), Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), Nandor (Kayvan Novak), The Guide (Kristen Schaal), and their friends (and enemies), we were getting some very interesting intel on the sixth and final season of FX's What We Do in the Shadows. With the series set to return on October 21st, Showrunner/EP Paul Simms is sharing even more pieces of the puzzle. Having moved out of the Staten Island mansion after turning down the opportunity to be a vampire, Simms notes that Guillermo and Nandor "have established some boundaries. He realizes that now he's got to go out in the real world and start his own life."

That new life includes a new job – another aspect of Guillermo's new life that has the vampires concerned. "The vampires are so concerned about his ability to function in the real world that they follow him to his job to quote-unquote 'help him out,'" Simms added during an interview with TV Line – which can only end well, we're quite sure. Admitting that originally, "we had no idea how we were going to end" the long-running show, Simms shared that "I'm really happy with the ending… We didn't want to get too bogged down in trying to tie up every loose end or get too sentimental about it. We just wanted to make another super funny season and have the ending proceed logically from that, and I think we've done it."

What We Do in the Shadows Final Season: New Vamp, Doc Crew Involved

Heading into the show's San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2024 panel, Simms offered some very intriguing intel on what's to come – including Guillermo starting a new life and Colin looking to help Laszlo build a new familiar/best friend. During the SDCC 2024, Berry, Proksch, Schaal, Novak (via Zoom), Simms, and director Kyle Newacheck were on hand to screen the first episode of the final season and tease what's still to come. The three big takeaways? We're introduced to our vamps' original roommate, Jerry (Michael Patrick O'Brien) – and let's just say that his reawakening (they forgot to wake him since 1976) has an impact on the house's dynamic. In addition, we learn where Guillermo's living now and what he's been up to. Finally – and especially interesting – the vampires begin calling into question the whole documentary thing.

Speaking of the documentary crew, Newacheck noted that the story of our usually unseen supporting cast "does get opened up towards the later end of the season in a very meta way that was fun to make." In fact, the director even had a chance to get in on the action. "I will say that I did get to play a director in the show at a certain point while I was directing the show, which was the most meta thing I've ever been a part of. So stay tuned, y'all. It's gonna get wild and weird," Newacheck added.

As an added bonus, you may have noticed at the opening that we mentioned Novak checked in via Zoom – but that wasn't quite right. Novak checked in as Nandor – and had a pretty graphic response when asked if Guillermo was going to come to terms with his feelings for Nandor. "I have to keep my voice down because Guillermo is in the next room, jacking off into his pillow," Nandor shared, saying to someone off camera who was supposed to be Guillermo, "What? No, I wasn't talking about you. Shut the fuck up!" Here's a brief clip of Nocak from today's panel:

Week 12 : Crowd sourcing in times of crisis

The term "crowdsourcing" refers to the process of acquiring necessary ideas, materials, or services by asking a large number of people, particularly those in the online community, to contribute rather than hiring conventional workers or suppliers (Merriam Webster 2019).

According to (Riccardi 2016) the use of social media and the Internet to "virtually" harness people's strength and unite them in support of a crisis is another definition of crowdsourcing.

Journalist Jeff Howe introduced the phrase "crowdsourcing" for the first time in 2006 (Ghezzi 2017). The British government, however, offered a £20,000 reward for a device that could accurately measure longitude and, as a result, improve maritime safety and lower the number of sailors who lost their lives in 1714, making that one of the earliest known instances of crowdsourcing. This was done through the Longitude Act of 1714. The first marine chronometer was created as a result of this (Dunn 2014).

With a wide range of tools at their disposal, digital citizens may now swiftly raise global awareness of problems and natural catastrophes while also seeking answers and aid. This is made possible by the affordances provided by the internet and social media networks.

Since the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami, Facebook has started creating disaster response capabilities. Beginning in 2014 with the release of their Safety Check product, they started with a discussion board. They subsequently included fundraisers and community assistance. All of these features were merged by Facebook in 2017 into a single resource known as the Crisis Response Centre (Nocak 2017).

"People affected by crises can find or offer help, stay updated on news and information, and let friends know they're safe" with the help of Crisis Response" (Facebook 2019).

Sadly, insufficient data gathering and limited access to reliable information can have a detrimental effect on emergency and humanitarian relief activities during times of disaster. On the other hand, by visualising data and hotspots, crowdsourcing crisis mapping may support efforts by facilitating the analysis and design of successful tactics. Prominent crisis mapping organisations and software resources comprise: UN Global Pulse, Crisis Mappers, Crisis Commons, Digital Humanitarian Networks, Ushahidi, Google Crisis Response, and the Standby Task Force (Skuse 2019).

A group of volunteers that volunteer for crisis mapping gathered information on the state of hospitals and clinics in the Bahamas following the destruction caused by Hurricane Dominic in 2019 and called themselves the Bahamas Standby Task Force. Maps have given first responders vital information on population mobility during emergencies as well as access to medical facilities and supplies, according to DirectRelief.org (Smith 2019).

Studies conducted on crowdsourcing responses to disasters such as flooding in Pakistan, wildfires in Colorado, and earthquakes and storms in Haiti have demonstrated that crowdsourcing helps emergency management prioritise and organise volunteers and resources more effectively. Online crowdsourcing has proven to be a potent and useful method for drawing resources to crisis situations and increasing public awareness, thanks to our global connection (Riccardi 2016).

Ráno s krásnym výhľadom na ľadovce, sladká snidane, kavicka a pre zmenu sup do kopca.

Mame prakticky posledný deň prechodu, minimálne podľa Barunkinho plánovania. To plánovanie je samo o sebe zaujímavá vec - neuveritelne presne dokáže odhadnúť hraničné sily kolektívu a takto odhadnutú kapacitu využiť na sto percent. Vraj, že postupom času treba zvyšovať obtiažnosť. Nuž, áno. Darí sa.

Dnes 2 krát do kopca - a to skoro po štyroch, medzi tým kompletný zostup asi až po hladinu mora :) ale s úsmevom na perách. Vždy jeden z nás - do kopca sa smejem ja, bo otlaky ma na pätách Baru, z kopca sa zas vytešuje ona lebo otlacene maličky mám zas ja.

Krajina trosku iná, kráčali sme po takej stepnej náhornej plošine, celkovo dnes podobná túra ako južne Pyreneje.

Posledný výstup sme si odmenili čerstvým syrom od baču a malým prvkom, foto z toho nemáme pretože nás ta slasť úplne obsadila. Teraz sa vytešujeme v stane nejakých 6 km od cieľa našej cesty a autobusovej zastávky, najedeni a spokojní pretože nad stanom sa čerti ženia - prišla očakávaná búrka a my sme všetko stihli suchou nohou. Barunkino plánovanie :)

Tak zajtra zabehnut tie zvyšné metre, autobus do grenoble a keď sa tam nestratíme tak další nocak do Prahy. Ďakujeme za pozornosť, môžete nám všetci viete čo. Závidieť :)

It’s my Birthday today. Honestly I never get too excited about this day... it’s rare anymore that I get gifts or anything. I would have loved to have woken up to this beauty on my birthday that would have been the ultimate most priceless gift I could have gotten. But I lost her. She went away to be happier.. cause I made mistakes... she made mistakes... our mistakes together made us toxic.. we were dangerous to one another at times. I still love her with all my heart. I know she still loves me too... I never meant any harm to her I feel bad everyday that I didn’t treat her like the princess she deserves to be treated like. I hope the next guy treats her better than anyone ever has. I want her to be the happiest Mermicorn ever.

i’ve been trying to order a vegan christmas cake online now for a while - why is it sooooo hard to put the ingredients in there to watch?! (the normal cake has them - but the vegan one doesn’t)

i did send e-mail asking about it - response the next day to take it further and let me know what i asked for. now its been a week - and nothing.

i did send a Facebook message for the cake maker now 3 days ago - no response.

Day 13

???

My husband and I have been at an Air National Guard meeting last night and all day today so I didn’t get a chance to weigh myself.  I maintained yesterday so that was all good but I never got a chance to post.  HOWEVER, I weight myself when we got back and I was 178.8 after eating lunch and I weigh myself in the mornings when I wake up.  Fingers crossed!

I was REALLY good while we were out of town.  (Or we.)  We both had side salads with ranch and a bunless burger.  Then for breakfast today we had eggs, bacon, and a small amount of fruit.  Then lunch was humongous salads with tomatoes, onions, and arugula.  Also we had chicken and green beans too!  Dinner was leftover dinner before we left.  I made spaghetti squash with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese and pepperoni on top.  It actually turned out pretty good and pizza-y.  Plus there was cookies, cake, chips, and sugary trail mix and we ate none of it!!!!  PLUS my husband was going to eat a plate of cake but one of his buddies took it away from him after he sat down and walked it right back up to the dessert table again.  Good friend.  ^_~

As for my health back on Wednesday my glands under my neck swell like a balloon and I had a super sore throat that day and Thursday.  Those days I skipped exercise.  Friday I did some Cize and today I didn’t work out because after waking up at 6am it wasn’t a priority for me when I got home a couple hours ago.

Wish me luck that tomorrow I finish the second week with progress.
