A few years back after Halloween and Dia de los Muertos celebrations in New Orleans and my friends had departed for all parts of the West Coast I lingered a couple extra days to capture some of the above ground graves in the Garden District. I decided to shot in La Fayette Cemetary No1. It turns out that cemeteries are surprisingly difficult to shoot and capturing most of the thumbs time consuming. But these old distressed and decrepit memories of loved ones are always fascinating. My shooting in La Fayette Cemetary No1 offered a finality to these people’s lives covered in stone and offered packets of remembrance. In some of the tombs you could feel the radiating tradition and others there was a sense of abandonment: a longing for recognition and adoration.
