holger practically worships djoko and sort of modeled his on-court behaviour after him and I think in his eyes you have to be a little "scandalous" for him to like/respect you. and before the doping scandal I think he saw jannik as his complete opposite because he was known as the guy that never gets into controversies/never gets angry/never argues with the crowd etc and that kind of pissed him off a little bit. but then the whole doping scandal happened and made him see jannik in a different light with how he handled all the adversity while still managing to play well. winning with the crowd against you is so much more admirable to him I think.

I love the narratives from a rpf pov and I think this is delicious BUT this also makes me laugh because wow. Holger is like my dad who also started to really like Jannik after the clostebol case

2. How does your OC show they love someone without words? Are they the touchy sort, with lots of hugs and cuddles, or do they have another, less obvious way?

Nolee is quite an affectionate person, and has a tendency to show her affection towards people without needing words. Her go-to is to be physically affectionate with hugs, should they want it, but otherwise she will pretty much show affection a lot of ways.

5. What is your OC’s favourite childhood memory? Why?

A memory slightly soured later on, but playing childhood games with the fellow initiates, mainly because of how it reminded of how innocent and naive she was to the world. Her favourite is Pirates and Sailors, but when she was a sailor she was so scared of the pirates she started crying in the middle of the game.

8. What little nice things does your OC do for others? Do they keep any of them secret?

She's usually very open about doing nice things for others, and one of them includes saving someone's favourite food for them. (For example, saving Halsin some honeycomb or Astarion any form of meat that is particularly bloody.)

9. What little things make your OC happy? The sunset? Eating a nice meal? The smell or beauty of flowers?

For Nolee, it's sitting by the water, especially if she gets to dip her toes in it. It reminds her of a lot of things- her home, her faith, the things in life that were actually good. It also brings a sense of calmness to her, especially when things get stressful.

Tumblr user rgrfederer whats the lore behind rafole divorce? I heard its because nole starting beating him and rafa got salty lol

it’s basically that but i think there is a bit more of… nuance in that. they became friends around 2007. and because they were of similar age they grew very fond of eachother. besides, novak at the beginning kind of idolized nadal which was pretty cute, and they complemented eachother’s sense of humour, which helped so much

it’s commonly acknowledged that when novak started winning rafa started getting a bit mad at him because of that, because if anything rafa is a bit (glazing my player let me have this) prideful. but there’s also the shift that their relationship instead of being a friendly one became, as most sports friendships do, a rivalry

while i think novak starting to win more was a factor in their distance, i do think that the nature of the game also drove them apart. like. this was them in 2010 what happened

2011 i think is the shifting point because it’s when novak got REALLY good at tennis. which, obviously, with tennis being such a competitive sport turned things for the worse really fast because novak suddenly started winning everything. they weren’t on equal grounds anymore. it turned sour and weird for rafa

and then 2013 happened. a rollercoaster of emotions. novak’s dad chiming in and accusing rafa of ruining their friendship because he was bitter BUT RAFA actually replied saying that they were still friends which is crazy if you ask me

then the infamous rafa hits novak with the ball and apologizes instance happened (montreal btw!). i think a lot of people talk about that moment because it was when the tensions between them were so bad but at the net hug rafa started to apologize even more which i do think is very important

which like. crazy moment in rafole history. what happened to us

the remaining years were and still are so weird because of novak’s statements. one day he might say he and rafa are not friends but then do exhos together, smiling and having fun, being close. which, weird, right? but i do think adds to the drama of rafole. you never know what’s going on between those two, like, novak once stated that the big three were not friends and then the six kings slam happened and he invited rafa to dance like. what

anyways. i do think there is an underlying amicability in rafole only when rafa won matches, but it’s just. so much more than that. novak’s interest to have this “no friends persona” during those years because he needed to be strong and rafa who was so bitter at novak for always winning but also leaving him behind, changing him for the glory of winning, and what can you do about that?

What's your take on fedole?

Hi anon! I'll start off with a shameless plug because one of my takes on Fedole can be found in the 16k oneshot I wrote about them a while back :) I made them get along better than the fandom usually does because I thought that was something new to contribute and it's the kind of story I feel comfortable writing, i.e. "A slow burn, 'getting to know and learning to live with each other' story." as I phrased it at the time. But there's certainly a lot of potential for drama in their dynamic that I like to read about too!

If you want to have a look, I've talked about Fedole before a bit, for example here and in the tags of this post I made about Roger's retirement and 'Twelve Final Days'. (Everything is still tagged "nole and roger" on my blog currently. One day I'll get around to adding the ship name tags but for now that's how you should be able to find posts about Fedole there.)

The dynamic between them is fascinating to me and lends itself very well to interesting stories, what with Roger (sometimes strongly and very openly) disliking Novak and being dismissive of him but Novak clearly looking up to him at the start of his career (albeit while also quite confidently stating his intentions to beat Roger, which pissed Roger off further), the fact that they both are very charismatic but from very different backgrounds, and while one of them chose to shy away from any and all controversies the other often does quite the opposite, the fact that they have had somewhat similar roles in the sport (at different times and at different points in their career, but still) to the point that some fans like to call Novak Roger's "heir", their very different views on tennis politics (players' council conflicts, Nole establishing the PTPA and Roger speaking up against it etc.), the fact that they both were friendly with Rafa for a couple of years until the relationship between Rafa and Novak pretty abruptly got less close...

There's just a lot of very interesting aspects to this relationship. Add to all of that backstory the sudden entente cordiale at Laver Cup 2018, where they're joking around with each other and playing doubles with each other and giggling during the slightly tipsy winner's press conference where Roger straight up tells the journalists that his favourite moment was "spending time with Novak"?! And then Roger's retirement where Roger seems a bit apologetic towards Novak and really unsure of where they stand and Novak is his usual exuberant and sentimental self and somehow during the retirement ceremony Roger ends up telling Novak something important which has Novak literally clinging to him and sobbing in his arms?! They have been pretty cordial with each other since then, see e.g. Roger greeting Novak with "Hey! old man" in Shanghai (and he had previously called him "brother" before at LC 2018 as well...) and Roger watching Novak play there for the first time and from his reactions pretty clearly rooting for him...

I often wish there were these "actors on actors" style conversations between tennis players where they interview each other - surely the Novandy instagram live during the pandemic has shown how intersting that could be? Well, if this format ever makes it into the tennis world I would love to see Novak and Roger have a chat. It could get interesting.

There are a lot more things to say about Fedole but I'll leave it at that for now. Basically, to cut a long post short: I think the dynamic is absolutely fascinating and there should be more fics!

one of Shepard's first conversations in the Citadel in ME1 is with Din Korlack, who is so grumpy that we think, aaaaw, he's just mad the volus don't get a seat on the Council, but he talks about how some species are not seen as equal, and when you get to Avina in the embassies and you ask her about the volus and Council seats, she ends her little speach with "The embassies allow lesser species to have a voice on the Citadel." she was 100% programmed to tell visitors that, with those words.

fastforward in me3 and you can tell the writers don't know how to deal with the batarians and the sheer level of atrocity that has been commited in me2 yes yes, the reapers would have done worse in arrival and shepard had no choice, and yes, the batarians have done terrible things but it's so big, as in "every remaining batarian knows shepard's face because of what they're done" big that the writers can't deal with what truly happened and what it should do to a human being

so we get a sort of simplistic story in me3 to make the guilt seems less than it should be (the remaining batarian leader, Balak, is bad and wants revenge). after a talk with him, batarians with their ships become war assets. it goes okay?

but when Officer Noles asks Shepard if they want Balak arrested and Shepard replies "I want you to put a bullet in his head… but we're all making some sacrifices today", I'm thinking that's a very questionable default line right there and that's not how I see Shepard. because yes Balak is not exactly someone innocent in this story but the use of the word 'sacrifices' is really annoying me considering arrival and the near extinction of the batarian race.

Balak just told Shepard he feels he can't save his people. and if you read the war assets, batarians are described as "enraged survivors". he even implies that the remaining batarians are basically cut from war info, he knows the location of Reaper forces because he's listening to Council transmissions. so he's basically their only hope at this point, and it's clear he doesn't know what to do. the level of despair there is just really high

"No collection of vessels is more eager to engage the Reapers than Khar'shans last warships."

so... it's not like i want shepard to be a full on batarians fan but there was a better way to express themselves after talking to Balak

3. How did you choose their name?

I am never consistent with how I come up with names- sometimes they come to me quickly, sometimes I have to google. But Nolee's name was taken from one of my childhood movies "My Scene: Go Hollywood", which has a character called Nolee, and with the character's personality I thought it fit my Nolee very well. Plus, the minigame assigned to the character on the dvd was my favourite (I think it was a quiz)

12. What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: writing, drawing, edits, etc.)? 

I've been in a bit of an art stump for a while, so creating any art in general had been difficult, but I'm slowly getting inspired once again and my have a Nolee piece coming up sometime.

Quite an honest interview from nole

"I acted and still felt like an unwanted child. I asked myself why that was. It hurt me. Then I thought the fans would accept me if I acted differently. But that wasn't the case either."

This particular phrase makes me a bit sad

It was the time I think, he entered at a time when there were already two legends present and so were two large fanbases so he must have felt like the cards were against him. I do that nole had a bit of inferiority complex and he tried to hide it with the over confident persona which definitely worked for his game but unfortunately it turned even more fans away. Simultaneously his egoistic display attracted some very "interesting" individuals which created a toxic fanbase for him.

His family also didn't help things, neither did Roger and his status. I like the swiss don't get me wrong but he also has an ego (like rightfully so) and that's the reason him and novak clashed so much.Not a surprise that he gets along with rafa cause Rafa is Rafa.

I can say I'm not a fan of novak, I respect his accomplishments but there are certain things about him that rub me the wrong way but I do like the version of nole we got to see alongside Rafa as if rafa brought out the best in him. I did like that very much.
