Close encounters of the camouflaging cephalopod kind among the sea grass during my visit to @danjuganisland last July 12-15! Watch it change color and texture! 💙🐙 (video c/o @kaila_ledesma feat. @cesledes) . And thanks to a quick wiki search, here are some fun facts about this curious creature: . The octopus is a soft-bodied, eight-armed (not tentacled) cephalopod mollusc. The siphon is used both for respiration and for locomotion, by expelling a jet of water. . Strategies to defend themselves against predators include the expulsion of ink, the use of camouflage and threat displays, their ability to jet quickly through the water, and their ability to hide. 🙈 . Octopuses have a complex nervous system and excellent sight, and are among the most intelligent and behaviourally diverse of all invertebrates. 🤓 . They inhabit various regions of the ocean, including coral reefs, pelagic waters, and the seabed. Most species grow fast, mature early and are short-lived. . During breeding, the male uses a specially adapted arm to deliver a bundle of sperm directly into the female's mantle cavity, after which he becomes senescent and dies. The female deposits fertilised eggs in a den and cares for them until they hatch, after which she also dies. 💔 . All octopuses are venomous, but only the blue-ringed octopuses are known to be deadly to humans. ☠️ . . . #octopus #cephalopod #mollusc #marinebiology #biodiversity #conservation #danjugan #danjuganisland #creaturefeature #latergram #negros #negrosisland #negrosoccidental #travelph #trylocalph #nomadmanager #responsibletravel @muni_ph (at Danjugan Island)

On March 9-14, 2018, we are putting together a 6D/5N experience in Negros Occidental for a small group of ~8-10 intrepid travelers, guided by @nomadmanager. Think of it as a #MuniMeetup on wheels. 😉 . We'll visit places and learn about organizations owned and run by Filipinos that work to uphold sustainable practices, and hear their origin stories too. We’ve got a little something for everyone – from island and forest destinations, to organic farms, and social enterprises. . And because the experience is all about connecting people, we will be arranging a #MuniMeetup customized for @muni_ph travelers on the first night, to meet with other changemakers and like-minded advocates in Negros! . The highlight of the trip will be @danjuganisland – a conservation area off Cauayan, 3 hours south of Bacolod city, where we will be spending 3 nights. . Learn more about this mindful travel experience and apply to join the trip via www.bit.ly/MuniTravels-Negros. :) . . . . . . #MuniTravels #ResponsibleTravel #SustainableTravel #ResponsibleConsumption #ZeroWaste #ZeroWastePH #Conservation #Agriculture #SocialEnterprise #nomadmanager

The sun sets on one day to rise again on another. . We have the resources within us to help us find peace and wisdom in our life experiences, though the answers may not always come instantaneously. . As I've been told many times lately, "be kind and patient with yourself". . All we need to do is put in the work, do what we feel is right (what feels right for us, and does not hurt the planet - not as much as other options anyway), and trust that the universe will conspire to make your patience and perseverance worthwhile. . Though the course may change sometimes, rivers always reach the sea.

Sitting area outside one of the mud huts at Typhoon Beach at @danjuganisland. • Mud huts are reinforced with bamboo, and then woven in with rice straw/stalks, rice husks, mud, and coated with lime. • Housing made this way utilizes more natural vs. man-made materials, making it more cost-efficient, and remains cooler indoors, which make it more comfortable to be in. :) • . . . . #mudhuts #sustainabledesign #sustainablehousing #greenhomes #responsibletravel #ecotravel #ecoescape #danjuganisland #danjugan #negrosisland #philippines #travelph #trylocalph #nomadmanager @danjuganisland #wheretonext (at Danjugan Island)

Perhaps in spite of my love-hate relationship with what I do, I still love it too much that I can't quite imagine letting go of some endeavors or pursuits for a possibly easier, but uninspired escapist life elsewhere. Is it really impossible to have the best of both worlds? Can one think selfishly while wanting to contribute to changing the world for the better? #latergram Taken in Madrid 1/10/2017 #madrid #spain #travelspain #europe #nomadmanager #loquehaces #lovewhatyoudo (at Madrid, Spain)

Coral reefs, a.k.a. the “rainforests of the sea”, currently occupy an estimated 1% of the ocean floor, and yet they are home to more than 25% of the ocean’s biodiversity that breed and feed within this ecosystem. It also produces half of the Earth’s oxygen, which is as vital for us land inhabitants as it is for the sea. . Due to global warming and increasing CO2 emissions, sea water temperatures have been rising - resulting in coral bleaching events that have killed up to 50% of the reef systems in different parts of the world. . This can all be quite depressing, but there are things we can do everyday to reduce our carbon emissions too - as much as possible: eat a more plant-based diet, buy local, walk, bike, take public transportation or carpool, conserve energy, and influence friends, family and your local community to take greater action with you. . I also recommend watching @chasingcoral on @netflix if you haven’t yet, to learn more about corals and why they’re such beautiful, important creatures, and the bleaching that is killing them. Best in the company of friends so you can take positive action together afterwards. 😊 . 📷at Twin Rocks, Anilao, Batangas with @reefnomads & @stungbyagelafish . #chasingcoral #savephseas #missionblue #nobluenogreen #bluemind #waterismedicine #coralreef #conservation #responsibletravel #sustainableliving #mindfulliving #nomadmanager (at Twin Rocks, Anilao, Batangas)

A couple of weeks ago, in one of many efforts to move forward better in life, I went to visit a Theta healer. Yes, that sounds very hippie, but no, I did not travel to a remote island (like in this photo) for that session, instead, it was in a building within the bustling Manila metropolis. She suggested perhaps I have a fear of success. To which I reacted, "No, that can't be. That makes no sense at all". Fear of failure, I understand, but fear of success? Why would anyone not want that? I've been mulling over the idea during idle moments in the day, and what I got from reflection is that it's about knowing that you can do a lot, but are scared of the work you need to put in to succeed, and the work you will feel compelled to do after having succeeded. I go back to this quote that brought me close to tears when I first heard it in Berlin at the beginning of 2016. When it was read to me, I was lost and struggling and didn't know what to do. A part of me wanted to just drop what I had been working to build over those years since late 2012. It reads like this: "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - Marianne Williamson Having had that light shed on my fear has not eliminated it. It's still there. But knowing what I know now, I hope I can better discern when I'm simply escaping a call for greater responsibility, or being pragmatic and managing my energy and resources. 📷 : Sunset at Typhoon Beach at @danjuganisland

It was an unusually arduous journey coming to Moalboal this time around. Whereas on my previous trips, it was just a ~3-hour bus ride away from Cebu, this time, I was coming from Bacolod, and I was bent on doing the trip by land and sea vs. flying into Cebu. • I intended to start my journey at 6:30am(-ish) to arrive in Moalboal by noon-ish or at least mid-afternoon. I wound up starting the day at 7:30am, which I would later regret because an anticipated 2-2.5 hour bus ride to San Carlos city was more like 3 hours, which made me just miss the 10:30am ferry to Cebu by 15-20 minutes. So I had to wait until 12:30pm for the next one. But I was cool, I was patient. That's life. • I was a bit worried going into the ferry ride, about how rocky the ride may be. It was mostly okay. Until perhaps the last long 15-20 minutes (felt more like 30) when we were approaching the dock at Toledo, and boat's rocking got rather wild, and we were told we could not dock immediately due to large waves. Then, the girl beside me started to puke. On the floor. There were a couple more people who puked after that. And I was patient, I endured. • Upon arrival in Toledo, locals told me I would have to take two buses (which is the info you would find online), except that a co-traveler at that time got my hopes up that there was a direct bus to Moalboal from Toledo (which is why I was convinced to take the ferry at San Carlos vs. further down South at Guihulngan). But I was patient. • Little did I know there wasn't a proper Naga terminal and that this bus was headed straight towards Cebu city. When I realized we had past Naga - and going up north, when I should have been traveling south, I decided to just get off the bus, cross the road and take another bus headed towards Moalboal. So I did. • I had been traveling 8-9 hours at that point already, and I just couldn't wait any more. After a long period of looking out, I finally got on a bus, no seat, but I was on my way. • And finally, I arrived at @halemanna. • Check out my Instagram stories in this piece of paradise. Will be posting more pics soon. 😍 . . . #travelmishaps #nomadmanager #bacolodtocebu #sancarlos #toledo #moalboal (at Moalboal, Cebu)

"Thousands have lived without love -- not one without water." - W. H. Auden . The earth is 97% ocean. It is the source of the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the food we eat. No water?
