I’m working on an art project which requires me to swatch a lot of inks by obtaining a lot of samples.
You will all be getting my unsolicited opinions about bottled inks. Here’s a sampler:
Sailor inks are for the rich. Noodler’s did some shit and you shouldn’t support them. I wrote three words in Organics Studio 5 months ago and it’s still smearing on my hands and over everything oh god oh god to this day. Ferris Wheel Press is my nemesis in this life and the previous.

guys i really, really like the noodler's Ahab flex pen
like, a lot
like, enough I'm recommending it even though i know half of you will hate the smell so so so much
(the baking soda soak recommendation i found really reduced the smell significantly, highly recommend)
it's juicy enough to use my driest ink, too! which is a relief.
makes me want to try their music nib next.
to be serious though, the things I like about this pen include but are not limited to:
it feels nice to hold - the resin is warm and it feels like it's just a tiny bit soft while being really really sturdy in the hand, and it's a nice big pen for me without being heavy
the nib writes really smooth at the thinnest and it's not too bad at it's thickest either, tho I admit that that takes a lot more force than my hand is good for right now in any sustained way
even though I'm not able to exert enough pressure to get the full Flex without a fair amount of strain on my part, a) remember that I have a half paralyzed hand doing all of this, so your mileage may vary, and b) just the light line variation I get with natural writing with it is so appealing to me, I can't overstate it
and it's just so juicy, it lays down a lot of ink, and I know that that can be actually a problem in a lot of people's experience, but I adore it
and the clip looks like a whale! how incredibly nerdy! I love it when my pens are nerdy.
have you tried one? do you have a fave Flex pen? should I go for one of the zebra nib adapted pens next, or should I try out an architect or blade nib instead?

not really a request but it can b if you want
do u have any thoughts abt if willy went for normal instead of scary
OOOOOO!!!!
normally, i would take this as a request but i’m actually working on smth that has to do with noodler- (wink wink) so i’m instead just going to talk about it.
I FEEL LIKE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO COOL!!! Norm would have done literally anything for validation and also, I feel like him being the one to betray them all would have been SO boss. Freaking imagine Normally Ly Oak-Swallows-Garcia doing what scary did. Norm would just be out there killing people and I would love it. Imagine this little, short, loving, validation seeking, overly optimistic, stinky, lonely boy becoming this person that others fear. Hermie stealing the costume, Tony pepperonis death, THE ENTIRE FREAKING SCHOOL DANCE, Hell, ALL OF THESE SCENES AND MOMENTS WOULD BE SO COOL IF THERE WAS SOME FORESHADOWING AND ANGST IN THEM AS WELL- not saying there wasn’t enough, BUT THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH MOREEEE!!!
So yeah, i think doodler normal is amazing and i will cry forever about what we lost. I love scary but cmon… noodler…

I do want to give a general warning that the owner of Noodler’s is known to be antisemitic and lets some of his more right wing politics show in his ink branding at times. Obviously very much niche drama, and he has apologized, but after finding out I personally felt uncomfortable supporting him any further. Here’s a write up of some of what he’s done: https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/142w0bi/the_noodlers_ink_drama_in_one_spot_content/
ough! thats good to know!!! i was always a little confused about the messaging on the bottles and i hadn't heard about the worst offenders, that's yucky bad!
