#1 Reason Sleep Training Will Never Be In Line With Responsive Parenting… Regardless of sleep training method… whenever we see the child as the one who needs to change, we are not being child-led. This is at the core of our ethos. If you continue to see your child as the one who needs to change, than you will not have a child-centred view. This parenting approach is not just a list of tips and tricks. It requires a shift in perspective. Without that shift, responsive parenting will always seem like it’s “not working” because our perception of what “working” is may be different. The biggest misconception of sleep training is that it is the ONLY way to get more sleep and that is just simply not true. There are lots of responsive methods. We just don’t hear about them as often. Why? Because sleep training is supported by formula companies. It is known that sleep training works against breastfeeding needs and can negatively impact breastfeeding. Since formula companies are not allowed to market their formula anymore, they pour money into “sleep training research” and use this research to promote sleep training through websites such as Baby Centre. As a result of all this money being poured into the practice because it’s good for business and capitalism, resources supporting sleep training are drastically more accessible because formula companies have a lot more money than someone like me would have for marketing. Because my goal is to support you, not tell you all the things you’re doing wrong, my marketing strategy is less than effective lol. The gold standard for marketing is the fear-based marketing used by the sleep training industry. A baby’s wants are a baby’s needs. Abundant new research shows that by letting our children “cry it out” May cause them to stop crying but it doesn’t change the reasons that causes them to crying is inflicting a form of trauma. I wanna get some sleep as much as the next person but I don’t want to scar my kid to do it. @thebadassbreastfeeder @stolensleep . . . . #sleep #sleeplessbaby #imtired #babycrying #whybabiescry #nosleeptraining #babies #infants #babysleeping #infantsleep #newmoms #newdad #newparents #newbaby #kidsarehard #babiesarehard #babiesbelike #outsidethewomb #lifeoutsidethewomb #ourkidsareworthit #funnymemes #babymemes #momsandbabies #wombtothetomb #loveyourmom #momsarebest #mom https://www.instagram.com/p/Byon3xgAdBp/?igshid=8fzm2ewj59vo

What do I mean by nighttime parenting? Contrary to what many people assume, nighttime parenting is not exclusively bedsharing, co-sleeping or room sharing. Those are strategies that some parents use to meet their child’s needs, at night. Parenting at night simply means attending to your child’s needs at night, same as you would during the day. That parenting does not need to stop because it is a certain time of day. You are not spoiling your child by consistently meeting their needs. You are supporting secure attachment. Parenting while trying to get some sleep yourself, can be challenging. Every family needs to find strategies that work for them. As we all know, parenting is never “one- size” fits all. J.
