i think spearmaster and srs’ relationship is a lot more interesting than people usually make it in fan material… srs was apparently originally ‘repulsed’ (quite literally the word used) by spearmaster, but by the time it’s campaign rolls around, has become so attached they actively worry for it to nsh, being unable to imagine what would happen if it were seriously harmed… test tube baby emotions

One of the old phantom movies was on (it wasn’t the musical, nor the silent film, nor the hammer production) so I put it on in the background while doing work and I looked up at the screen at one point and saw a pianist who looked like he was cosplaying franz Liszt but I was like, nah that’s just a coincidence that’s just how pianists looked in the 1800s or whatever

And then the credits rolled and that was actually supposed to be franz liszt as a character in the phantom of the opera 😭😭

Gonna make a timeline because for some reason I do that with things I like

One day I'll write a more detailed explanation of "the new planet" being officially called Ragnarök(I feel like it would colloquially just be known as New Earth) but I did want to explain the basics because I'm not sure I've put anything about it here before.

The section at the end of chapter 29 when Matt reads to Casey from the Prose Edda after the power cut is possibly my favourite scene for them. For those who won't have read it; Casey likens the destruction and rebirth of the earth to their current situation. The earth literally ending, the new start ahead of them, the group of several thousand humans in the pods being representative of the two surviving humans who repopulate the earth in the original story.

(Side note: I also relate certain aspects of those two humans- Lif (female, "life") and Leifthrasir (male, "life's lover" OR "life's yearner" depending on translation) to Casey and Matt themselves, but, probably better to put that in the larger explanation.)

That is part of Casey's reasoning, but there's also a more personal level to the decision, and it's not something she mentions aloud to Matt, though I feel she would tell him later on when they're a couple. It's that the main description-

-heavily reminds her of the aftermath of the boat explosion. This, to her, is death and rebirth in a much more visceral and personal sense.

Anyway, I think a few people, not necessarily here, think it's just a silly shippy thing on my part, or even in-universe on Casey's part. Which is not the worst thing in the world I guess, but I very much enjoy the deeper significance of it. 😊

in case anyone was wondering about the radio silence these last few weeks

i have officially committed to digimon card game brainrot

someone in my area was looking to give their collection to a good home and i spent over 16 hours the last few days organizing all the cards into a new container by set and rarity

yes i'm counting starter decks as their own set, purely out of convenience

also all of my bt-15 is in a binder in set order and i did not feel like pulling it out to put into here lmao

like last week i bought a booster box of bt-15 (because a collection has to start somewhere and yes i want to do something with that rando apocalymon card i pulled) and then

literally the day after

someone in my area is offering the holy grail of a collection for someone starting new in a card game (relatively large swath of cards including a lot of bulk to help cook with and some huge centerpiece cards, plus a few pre-built decks, half-cooked deckstuff, spare card accessories)

Another brusque scoff, another smirk, River's frustration mounts with each cavalier gesture thrown her way. Every brush-off of the situation is an invisible slap, bubbling and welling with the hottest vexation, can't she see that she's trying to be serious here? Her? How many times has Frost huffed and moaned that she didn't take things seriously. How many damn times? One would think the news of a new group working with Gotham's PD would warrant some faint embers of attention... Even if delivered upon the lips of someone frivolous.

Maybe she'll finally get it if River rattles the sense into her. It's a temptation that's rapidly becoming too hard to ignore.
