Imagine your f/o trying to warm you up after having to go outside in the freezing weather for awhile. Holding your hands as they handed you a hot drink or caressing your face melting in their warm touch. Which eventually turns into cuddling under some soft blankets feeling soft and tried wrapped around them.

🩸⸝⸝ Vampirekin tips ! ⊹﹒IT'S HEREEE!!
Tumblr media
✦ Create a vampire themed Pinterest board!
✦ Make a vampiric playlist on whatever music platform u use, I personally enjoy listening to goth rock, gothic metal, & organ music!! ✦ Gear such as fake fangs, fake blood, & biting stim toys r really great to have! ✦ Keep a journal specifically 4 ur vampire kintype! Write some affirmations, dream gear, ur shifts (if u have shifts), etc!! ✦ Watch some vampire movies & read some vampire books! ✦ Like myself, not all vamps r fans of the sunlight. I recommend staying in the shade, wearing sunscreen, or bringing an umbrella outside! ✦ Try to pull all nighters/be more active at night. However, be careful with this & if u cant stay up that is completely fine. ✦ Safely take walks during the night time, it's very refreshing! ✦ Find community, find other vamps!! It's good to have others who understand. ✦ Dressing in dark gothic clothing & wearing a cloak always seems to set the mood 4 me! ✦ Decorate ur living space with gothic and halloweenie decorations! Keeping ur room dark/dimmed is also very nice!! ✦ Drink red drinks, cranberry juice, pomegranate juice, energy drinks, etc! ✦ Eating meaty foods always gets my fangs to show but if u are vegetarian/vegan that's okay! I recommend eating fruits such as strawberries, plums, & peaches cuz it almost feels like biting into flesh!!
Tumblr media
This might not be 4 every1 but I hope this may have somewhat helped! I will prob add onto this later!!

ok so I got back from a voltaire and vision video concert and now I'm thinking WOULD MARY BE A VOLTAIRE FAN ALSO NO CLUE IF YOU KNOW WHO VOLTAIRE IS BUT IDK I FEEL LIKE MARY WOULD LOVE HIM "THE NIGHT" REMINDS ME SM OF MAREGGIE AND I WAS LIEK OH MY GOD.
Also photo I got w voltaire bc I'm so happy I cried
Tumblr media
Mary would ABSOLUTELY be a Voltaire fan and I say this because I'm sure she's a big fan of whatever their in-universe equivalent(s) of Voltaire would be!
It very much suits her style of goth where everything is a bit more on the halloweeny-spooky side and a little playful and light-hearted too!

The House On The Hill.
(A rewritten version of the Hatzgangs scene from The Stars for the Saturated AU.)
TWS FOR FLESH EATING, BLOOD, DRUGS, DRUG DEALERS, ETC
————
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It shows the kids walking along the sidewalk for a brief shot, with Skid being like. "Sheesh–how could this get any—"
He stops, noticing something off screen and then seeming frustrated. While Pump becomes visibly confused.
It cuts to the Hatzgang, who is standing in front of them. Roy's friends have mischievous looks on their faces, while Roy has a genuine smile from ear to ear.
"Hey! Those are some nice costumes you got there!"
"Uh—thanks?" Pump says, arching a brow.
"For us to ruin!" Ross suddenly cuts in with a smirk. Roy tries to protest, but before he can stop them, Robert and Ross both walk foward—straight up hitting the kids in the face, kicking them in the stomach and then punching them across their heads. Before they can go any further, Roy intervenes by getting in between them.
"He—Hey! Stop! What are you doing??"
Ross blinks. "..uh.. duh..? They're weirdos. They deserve it."
"No, they're not!" Roy exclaims, and then faces the kids while his friends glare a bit. "Uh—sorry about that. What are you two here for?"
"..uh.. we were just trying to find something cool to do until your friends decided to beat us up." Pump shrugs, speaking bitterly.
Tumblr media
"Oh—reallyy?? Y'know—there's actually this really cool house over there on the hill! It's really Halloweeny and junk!"
"..really?" Skid looks over to where Roy points, and sees it. He still seems skeptical though, glancing over at Ross specifically. "..well.. we'll go check it out, I guess. This better not be a trick though. C'mon—let's go."
Tumblr media
The kids slowly walk away as the three watch.
"..I bet they're gonna have a lot of fun with that guy who sold me the special sugar in the alleyway!" Roy grins aloud to himself. This sentence makes both Robert and Ross glance over at him, their expressions becoming more serious.
"..what..?" Ross says.
It cuts to the interior of the house on the hill, only for the doors to practically slam open. The kids skeptically look around, and see no one inside, so they walk in.
"..huh." Skid says aloud to himself, looking around. "..guess it's empty after all."
But then, when the two look ahead—they see a gigantic opening in the ground. There appears to be some kind of strange wrapped box beside it, but also a splatter of blood trickling from the hole.
Skid becomes noticeably cautious, and as does Pump. As bravely as he can, Skid steps foward to maybe ensure that whatever is inside doesn't hear him. But the moment he peeks in, a tentacle shoots out and grabs him. Skid screams out. Pump yells, only for a tentacle to shoot out again and grab him too.
They're both dragged down into an eerily silent, bright red void. And..
Tumblr media
..Eyes is standing there right before them, his eyes looking straight down at their faces. Skids face becomes noticeably irritated instead of frightened, while Pumps becomes absolutely horrified as he stares into Eyes's red sockets.
Eyes loud, rumbling voice begins to speak. "..HELLO, MORTAL FLESH.."
"..hi." Skid frowns. "Can you let us go? We're trying to explore a house up here!"
"..I DON'T BELIEVE I CAN ALLOW THAT. ALLOW ME TO PUT YOU OUT OF YOUR—"
When Skid feels Eyes's tentacles tighten at a painful level, he reacts quickly and literally slaps Eyes on the tentacle. "Hey! Stop! I don't know who you think you are, but I'm not letting you push us around!"
"..YOU'RE.. INTERESTING."
"Yeah. That's very nice of you. Can you let us go? Please?"
"..HMMMM.. YES. BUT IN EXCHANGE FOR ONE THING.."
Tumblr media
It shows Eyes ominously emerging from the house for a frame, and then cuts to the Hatzgang.
"What do you mean that wasn't candy?" Roy asks his friends, who then look up with even more horrified faces as a shadow looms over them. Roy looks behind himself, and it shows Eyes, who has two of his eyes in the center brightly lit up. It cuts to the Hatzgang, who now have red pupils and are visibly distressed as red marks begin to appear on their skin a bit.
Tumblr media
"Wh—hey!"
Skid slaps Eyes on the mush they're sitting on, and Eyes briefly stops making noise.
Skid yells, "I said we'd show you the town! Not eat people's flesh!"
Skid then just let's out a irritated sigh, but his eyes light up, seemingly getting an idea on what to do.

In terms of other ocs I wanna refurbish, I really want to go back to my figurative workshop and dress Nel up some. He feels like--well, my in eyes I feel like I need to go fill tilt into an aesthetic w him bc he's not distinct enough to me in terms of wardrobe (metal? More halloweeny??), figure out what I want from him story wise. It's very easy to end up making an rp oc that feels very middle of the road and ends up getting less and less interesting to use. I don't think he should feel like he sucks to write to me just bc he's nice. Maybe I could even make him an unaware asshole. Whatever the case I want him to have distinct, conflicting motivations or traits that keeps him fresh to me. Not just. Some guy who has no promise to me or a distinct vivid internal life to me. Anyway! Needs work. Because I really want to be wowed by him. Like who has an oc who is the face of their blog and then I barely feel much of an urge to draw them?? That's a shame to me fr.

Sunday Summary
Getting in the habit of doing this will never have any downsides or weeks where I am uninspired and hate everything and write zero words, right? Right!
Anyway, here's how things are going:
🚛 to get my soul known again - 3,363
Eked my way through Chapter 33, which was the hardest chapter of the whole fic thus far. Chapter 34 should be easier, I hope, and I'm hoping to work on that this week.
🍑 Kinkmeme 1 || modern citizen; zero discipline - 1,027
A misleading count, since I also took a lot of words away as I edited this one into its final shape. Posting Tuesday, am excite!
🍆 Kinkmeme 2 - 170
A tiny little bit of work on this one because I used the opening scene for the Smutfest Roundtable on Discord. This leaves me with 8k to edit before attempting to post on September 4th? 5th? 6th? Whatever.
👩‍❤️‍👨➕ Kinkmeme 3 - 4,731
Got it done! This is the one I'm most nervous about posting, not because of the content, but because of the characters. But it's something I've been wanting to try my hand at for a while, so if nothing else, I've enjoyed it for my own sake.
🎃 Halloweeny - Vague Outline
I'm doing a spooky one-shot. The vague premise has taken shape in my head and I've jotted down some notes. I'm going to try and ape a style that is very much not my own, so we'll see how I do with that. We love a challenge.
Grand Total: 9,291
Thanks to everyone who sent in pervy/kinky/smutty asks last night, I had a lot of fun answering!
This week is heads down editing soul Chapter 27, and maybe writing some of Chapter 34. Next week and the week after are semi-travel weeks, which always kills productivity. And sleep. Oh well!

Crafty Crafterson
My uber-talented daughter-in-law inspired me to try something deliciously spooky.  We watched Hocus Pocus 2 together the weekend that it aired and we share a love for all things Halloweeny.  When Winifred Sanderson called for her spell book, “BooooOOOOK!”, Jamie mentioned that there are all sorts of DIY videos online that show how to make your very own spell book. I was intrigued.
youtube
Some were very elaborate, some were super simple, some were perfect replicas of the Hocus Pocus book.  I chose to do something simple, with elements of Winifred’s book. I didn’t want to copy her book because it has (shudder) snakes on the cover.  Nope, nope, nope.  And if you know me, you know that I had no intention of investing more than a couple of bucks in this project. You guys, it was so much fun. You can use any book, but I happened to have one of those big fake books - you know the ones, they’re made of wood and you can store stuff inside them.  I was gifted a couple of them years ago and do love them, but I don’t need two. So I had the base for my project.  After watching a couple of DIY videos and getting ideas I tweaked things to be able to use what I already had on hand.  I had tissue paper, glue, paint, twine, a hot glue gun, and an imagination.  All I needed was an eyeball.  I wanted my book to have a creepy eye, but I didn’t want to buy a sack of those cheap, plastic eyes that are readily available now. People float them in Halloween punch bowls and they’re effective, but I wanted something more realistic.  I tumbled it in my mind and just as I was thinking that I didn’t want to use those adhesive googly eyes, EUREKA!  I bought the $2 pack of googly eyes, sliced open the back, printed a pupil that looked real, and had the perfect eye...that moves when you move the book!  But I’m getting ahead of myself. First, I used tissue paper and a mixture of white glue and water to cover the surface of the book and make it look old and wrinkly.
Tumblr media
Then I hot glued twine in places where I wanted it to look like the book was stitched together. I placed two strands side by side to look like a seam.
I let that dry overnight and the next day I painted it.
Tumblr media
See that googly eye at top left?  That’s the base for my creepy eye. All I had to do was swap the black disc inside for one of these.
Tumblr media
I did a few chores and let the paint dry and then the fun really started.  I dipped the handle of a paintbrush in black paint and made matching dots on each side all along those seams.  Then I used a hot glue gun to connect the dots, and lo and behold - we have stitches!
Tumblr media
Those hot glue stitches would eventually get a swipe of paint but first I had to get busy on the eye. I popped in my printed pupil, sealed up the back and gave it a blob of glue.  Then I used the hot glue gun to go back and forth over the eye to make it look like a wrinkly eyelid.  I may have gone overboard with the wrinkly eyelid.
Tumblr media
Anyway, without boring you to tears, I kept my booooOOOK very simple. After the glue on the eye hardened I painted the stitches and the eyelid, touched up a few spots on the book that needed paint, and called it done.
Tumblr media
Not perfect, but perfectly fine for me. I may still add some depth to the paint color, it looks a bit flat. Could be dustier and more worn. Still, it looks like it could keep my secrets. What a fun and super easy craft for this spooky season. Bonus feature is that it probably put me on at least three new prayer chains.
Tumblr media
Remember that wonderful quote from Practical Magic (another favorite book and movie!) ?
Tumblr media
That one speaks to me.  Don’t try to conform, don’t try to fit the mold, just enjoy whatever your freaky little heart wants.  I only seem normal in October when my hobbies suddenly become decor.  The older I get the more determined I am to follow my heart and ignore anyone who poo-poos my fun.  If someone is a rabid football fan or buys yarn in bulk for crochet projects I don’t care. Enjoy!  If I choose to spend my day burning my fingerprints off with a hot glue gun to make a creepy spell book then that shouldn’t matter either, right?  Relax, Mrs. Kravitz. There’s a whole generation that won’t get that reference.
Well, that got weird.  I think I have PTSD from too many years in the Bible Belt. Too much judgment, not enough joy.  My default is to defend my interests. I once had a school mom tell me that my tombstone decor was “disrespectful to the dead”.  Did she think I had actual corpses buried under my shrubs?  Did she think that Izzy Dead and Barry M. Deep were real people?  In hindsight I probably should have just asked for a lock of her hair, bet I never would have seen her again. I’ll get this post back on the rails and just say I had a lovely time at my desk making a Halloween craft.  Today I need to freshen some bedrooms because it’s about to get crazy around here.  Matt will fly in tomorrow evening, then the Edgewater gang will arrive Friday after work.  It’ll be a full house this weekend! FUN!  I need to make a grocery run and try to remember how to feed a crowd.  Isn’t that a great problem to have?  I’m so very lucky to have a family that wants to be together.  Now there is a source of joy. Go find yourself a little joy today - chat with a friend, pick up a spiffy new bottle of nail polish, lose yourself in a good book, take a walk and soak up some fall color, whatever works or you.   Fill your emotional tank, I think we could all use a little boost.  The world is exhausting right now, so carve out a little peace and happiness - you need it.  Take care of your sweet soul. It matters. YOU matter. I’m going to go outside with a book and spend fifteen or twenty minutes listening to birds sing and enjoying the 60 degree weather. Then I’ll tackle the bedrooms. This post was bonkers, but so am I. Just be glad you didn’t pay for this nonsense. Stay safe, stay well, stay true to the weirdo inside you.

Ok, so as a Halloweenie fan, here are my thoughts and thots about Halloween ends, so major spoilers if you haven’t seen it yet 😳 Idc if this gets like 0 notes, I just wanna scream
I wanted to go into this movie liking it, I really did but I was already sort of underwhelmed by Halloween kills. It was entertaining but it wasn’t really what I was looking for. A lot of time was spent on characters (tommy Doyle no one gives a shit about you) I didn’t necessarily care for and Karen or the mom of Alison or whatever was starting to get annoying. Like at this point, I get it, because the safest place for my family would probably be in the hospital but I didn’t get a motherly care vibe like I could tell they wanted to portray but more like a I want everyone to listen to me despite the driving emotions of the story. I get that they wanted a huge fight between Mikey and Laurie, which is why they sort of wanted her to recover in between kills and ends but whatever. Laurie is stuck in that stupid hospital scene that takes up a huge chunk of the movie, trying to tell everyone that this random institution patient isn’t Michael but the scene is so long and very much the opposite of emotionally moving. I get the point, that blind hate and mob mentality is stupid and horrible but it was really in your face and made me feel like they thought I had the emotional comprehension of like a 15 year old.
Whatever, anyway, Michael is hashing and slashing his way through all the annoying characters, so I’m happy and the movie ends on an ominous note of him killing Karen for standing in his spot which the movie never elaborates on further even in the next movie. They made a huge deal about how all Michael wants is to sit in his little window in his little house. And then like never talk about it ever again LMAO.
So now that kills is over, they start with COREY IN THE HOUSE, literally accidentally drop kicking some child down a ridiculous like 3 story high gap in the fancy stairwell or staircase thingy, which to me, I hate to be insensitive, is the best most jarring kill of the movie because you don’t see it coming. And he gets in huge trouble but the court rightfully is like, yeah, who cares; he didn’t mean it, accident 🤷🏽‍♀️. The whole town treats him like shit and his mom sucks and is a creepy weirdo so no wonder this guy is a ticking time bomb. No one seems to care that he obviously didn’t mean to ?? And that he probably already felt really bad about it but small town I guess, big city, no one would have given two shits.
Establishing the bully here to really drive home the school shooter vibes is the GEN Z kids which includes a white kid who speaks in like AAVE and has a tik tok mullet and an approving black kid to prove that the AAVE got the pass. And they’re band kids so i just wanna know which producer or writer got bullied by band kids bc your experiences are not universal. Like ??? Maybe band kids are secretly mean. There’s like a nice one but she doesn’t do much to stop the bullying or just leave to point out that she doesn’t approve so not really that nice. I was not a fan of these kids, they were really annoying which I guess was the point but god.
Laurie, who sees the bullying feels bad for wet and shivering rat Corey and decides to, without knowing this man at all, except the kid incident and that he looks like he could really use a win, set him up with Alison. She’s like overly drawn to him, to the point where she looks sort of creepy at the beginning. Because the actress, despite being good, had no chemistry with him so she’s just like ‘I wanna see you 👁👁’. They go to a party but for some unknowable reason the mom of the kid who he killed is there ? At this party in which he has some sort of acid without the acid experience.
She makes him feel like shit so he leaves and despite being chased by Alison, turns away and leaves to go home. The GEN Z TIKTOK children are back on his case but they sort of kick his ass and flip him over a bridge despite him pulling a knife on them. They just… slap it out of his little rat hands so it was a little sad to see.
THIS, like one hour into the movie, is where they introduce Michael, who for some reason, has been dragging people into the sewer, skulking around town and murdering people secretly, you know, weird stuff, that I never see Michael doing. But they make it obvious that Michael is in his winter years and that he could really benefit from a walker and an oxygen tank. It is also apparent that Michael hasn’t killed the hobo who lives under the bridge with him so maybe they’re friends.
He takes Corey in the sewer to kill him but after telepathically communicating their shared history of being judged badly after doing something they perhaps hadn’t really meant to do, Michael lets Corey go. Not sure why. Maybe Michael sees a fellow killer, someone with potential to be like him so why not mentor him or something. I liked the idea of Michael mentoring someone, I do, think it could be really cool. But the set up for me wasn’t done properly. It doesn’t make sense to me why Michael cared at all about this guy, after already making Michael out to be a merciless killer.
Corey is a changed man now, he’s a little scared about this experience with Michael and he kills a hobo or something so now he feels like a real killer. He does start to look way cooler after this so I guess it’s an improvement. He wants to be cool and badass so he leads this really old looking cop that Alison used to date, even though Alison at the oldest is like 20 ? 21 maybe ? I guess like 5 years passed or something. He leads him into the sewer where he and Michael stab him together, Michael tutors him on how to use knife and teach him how to be a silent killer but Corey’s not really getting it.
To really hurry this along, Corey descends into madness and Alison too, who decides to run away with him despite there being something very off with this guy. Laurie is trying to warn her that he reminds her of Michael but she won’t hear it. This is where it gets disrespectful for me and why I didn’t like the movie a lot because Corey definitely isn’t his own thing now, he wants to be Michael. He isn’t inspired, he isn’t similar, he wants to be the same thing. He steals the bit and stops making a bunch of noise but he can’t even survive a couple of gunshots. Laurie kicks his shit in and Michael is very upset his mask and bit were stolen.
This scene is probably the part I had been most looking forward to. The finale, the final fight between these two horror legends and it felt. So lackluster. And also extremely short. Any hype they built in kills is gone when they show that Michael is really feeling the town beating he got last time and hasn’t really recovered well. So, he gets his ass beat but the fight was at least a fight.
Michael gets a fun little funeral and his body is tossed in the trash grinder thing so he never comes back. I see why but it still made me a little sad.
I wish this movie was a lot different. I know the slasher girlies really like Corey and that’s fine and well but he’s just a bad copycat to me. If he had developed his own bit and style instead of deciding to steal Michael’s, I might have liked him more. I thought he was too little and too scared. Which I guess is their point. You can be like Michael but you can’t be him. He’s my special little guy.
Corey did however look a lot like the actor who played Michael’s face claim, so that was cool and I liked the evil romance between Corey and Alison. It was weird and maybe a bit dorky at times but I liked the, I’ll kill for you part. It just definitely stopped being for her at some point. It felt like if Michael had snapped later in life, dating him would’ve been something like that.
Overall, I thought the movie was ok. Not great and not what I wanted out of the last Halloween movie but oh well. I liked the overlap between Michael’s character and Corey’s and it definitely showed that at some point, Michael was human. And he probably didn’t understand what he had done when he stabbed Judith. They both are judged very harshly for something they couldn’t have truly intended to happen. And it was cute and made me sad about Michael but I’m loyal so screw that other guy.
Also love how they literally didn’t film in Michael’s house anymore, like that’s done, he don’t have the rights for it I guess. But thanks for reading this if you did, I guess I just wanna nail my opinions to the wall so everybody can know how much I didn’t like this movie. Anyways, I need someone to argue with so if you liked this movie, tell me why, lol.

Heyoh TC! If you've already answered these, oops, but I'm curious to get Halloweeny. 🖤 and 🧡! Bonus, if you like: 📘, but strike the classic from it.
@unclear-contributions
Hello, thank you! I thought you put red at first not orange so you also get an additional bonus question b/c I can't see lmao
Are there any book series that you’ve been meaning to start but haven’t gotten around to yet? Which ones are they?
I was going to say I couldn't think of any but then I remembered that couple of years ago I bought Cronache del Mondo Emerso by Licia Troisi and I still haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I have absolutely no idea whether I'm going to love it or hate it, as my Italian friends are incredibly divided on this particular author, but I am looking forward to at least trying it.
Is there a particular book cover that you find absolutely stunning? Share a picture or describe it!
I'm always struck by how beautiful the 2Ha covers are! Didn't feel like grabbing my camera so I pulled this one off the internet.
Tumblr media
Which classic book or author do you think everyone should read at least once in their lifetime, and why?
I actually do tend to really like a lot of books that are considered classics but I'm just not the kind of person who can go around saying "everybody should read/watch/whatever" something because I know that my taste tends to be…eccentric, to say the least. If you ask me for recommendations with specific criteria I can probably give you something but I don't really know if I've ever read anything I think should be a universal experience.
Who is your all-time favorite author, and what makes their writing so special to you?
It's hard for me to pick just one! Statistically in terms of number of volumes owned* it's probably Mercedes Lackey. And it's true I've been reading her work for really, really long time and she's been very influential on me – especially in the way that I approach world building and magic.
But there's a lot of authors who could be considered my favorite in one metric or another! Notable mentions are Brian Jacques, Henry Neff, Jane Linskold, and Rachel Neumeier.
*I also own a metric ton of books by Elisabetta Dami but that's a different issue.

October 31: Halloween
I had quite a good Halloween today, everything considered, though I am now absolutely exhausted and a little overwhelmed. And my feet hurt a lot.
I went into work in the morning: very cloudy, rainy/drizzly, cold, atmosphere. Extremely Halloween-like weather, I’ll be honest. I got my backlog of work done, and I stopped in at the registrar for warm apple cider and cookies. I mentioned this event to the library and got some, like, insulted responses, like, how dare they hone in on our event but I have to say… chill out. If they were also doing hot dogs, or even another lunch food, I’d say that’s insulting, but their event really didn’t compete. Also since the event email was nuked because it’s too expensive or whatever, no one knows anything about what’s happening, and I barely even heard this was a thing. They were not our competition. So. I don’t know, the cookie and cider were good and the office was made up in a very spooky manner and all I needed was to engage in some awkward conversation.
There were some nice costumes and make up, people in holiday sweaters or with cute earrings, one co-worker with Halloween makeup and one in a full Halloween get-up, with makeup, and a matching clown mask that she did not wear but kept at the desk to disturb people. She didn’t know where it was from, just found it in her closet, so… I presume it’s cursed. There were also some dressed up students, including, most notably, Sexy Pennywise with some red balloons. One of the housekeepers is afraid of clowns and I felt bad: dude was not having a good time.
Then there was Halloweenies itself. It was drizzly and cold, so we had to separate our grill from our actual food stations: grill outside, stations under the overhang. It actually was not too chilly in my little, dark corner lol. Much more lowkey than other years, not a lot of people just hanging out outside with their food, but we were still very popular and saw a lot of people come by. We ran out of ready beef hotdogs pretty fast, within my shift, and we kept having to tell people we didn’t have any, which kind of sucked. One kid, I felt bad for him, he said he’d be back in 15 minutes, and in that time we got another batch out and then every single one was taken, and then just as the last one was given away, he came back and we still had none. I hope he got one eventually. Anyway, it’s always an enjoyable event. We had a couple medium sized inflated ducks and a large cardboard duck that was positioned to be staring right at me, in honor of the whole duck thing that’s still limping along.
I had a 45 minute shift but stayed a little longer because I didn’t want to have to do any more work before I went home and also I wanted one of the hot dogs. I got one eventually, found a ring pop in the candy bowl. Talked a bit to A about the situation at Circ, still not resolving itself, possibly heading for disaster. Then I left at around quarter to 1.
My plan had been to get some lunch, sit outside, write a little in my notebook but it was too cold and everything was covered in water from the rain. So I took an impulse walk into the historic area instead. There weren’t many people, and it was overcast and rainy and leaf-strewn, so even though they’ve totally given up on Halloween decorations (a big L, in my opinion), the area itself was done up in a spooky way by nature itself. I felt like I kept seeing haunted places, in some way that’s hard to describe. I took a lot of photos.
I walked way longer and farther than I had I intended to, and then I was exhausted and cold. So I went to a coffee shop, which wasn’t crowded for once because it was the middle of the day, got a brown sugar pecan latte, and sat inside for a little bit, writing up notes. Not very useful notes, but that’s okay. Then I headed home.
I had a quick lunch, posted my ficlet, stuff like that, and then I roused myself to make an apple crisp, which I’ve been meaning to do for ages, and also change the sheets on my bed and do some other chores. I also watched Halloweentown because even though it was not part of my childhood, I thought it looked adorable and like something in-season that wasn’t yet more horror. It was good background noise. Then I got a quick dinner. At this point I’m very tired and my feet hurt terribly. Whenever I’m productive, I always end up becoming very anxious in the evening: thinking about what I didn’t do and what I need to do next and what I need to do in the coming days, weeks, months, aaaaah! And of course it’s not a good feeling, so then I feel later like it’s not even worth being productive, because all I get is anxiety. I’m trying, as I head into the end of the year hoping to build better habits, to manage this feeling, to learn, as I think I was once able to do, to shut off the anxiety and just rest in the accomplishment. I did a lot today. I did essentially everything I had set out to do. Now if I hope to do anything tomorrow—starting with a full work day—I need to rest and get some good sleep.
So, overall, I am ready to transition out of the Halloween era, but I do think the day was successful!

I've read 6 hercule poirot books so far and here's my initial list of faves:
Reviews for Death on the Nile, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Hercule Poirot's Christmas, Murder on the Orient Express, the A.B.C Murders, Hallowe'en Party under the cut!
1. Death on the Nile. 5/5. I just really loved this one. The drama and mystery and the classic Christie plot twist all while taking place on a boat cruise (one of my worst fears). Out of the two "travel" books I read, this was my fave because of how it Egypt as a setting. This book felt like such a labour of love and I could tell Christie loved writing it. Do not watch the movie for the love of god.
2. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. 4.5/5. I probably would've given it full stars but I was so rudely spoiled so early in the book I never got a chance to be shocked and awed by the plot twist. But man, the final confrontation was so dramatic and abrupt, and the final line made me laugh. Masterclass in hiding the truth in plain sight.
3. Hercule Poirot's Christmas. 5/5. My ratings seem a bit skewed because I haven't reread any of these so I'm still on the fence about my favourites. I just finished listening to the audiobook of this one and I really really enjoyed it. I found it the easiest mystery to keep track off and still was shocked by it's ending. One of my favourite aspects of Christie's books is the characters getting happy endings despite the circumstances, and the theme of forgiveness. This book definitely felt appropriate for the holiday season and did bring me a bit of holiday cheer in the summer heat.
4. Murder on the Orient Express. 4/5. A classic. This was the first one I read and unfortunately did know the ending as I watched the movie a few years ago. Similar to Death on the Nile, I really loved how real these characters felt. The complex relationships between everyone and even Poirot's willingness to forgive harmless crimes for the sake of love and happiness made this book feel so different from other detective stories. It definitely got me hooked immediately. Rewatching the movie was an immense disappointment.
The A.B.C Murders. 4/5. I listened to this one on audiobook during a roadtrip so I definitely feel like a reread is necessary. I was a bit confused due to the cultural and time period differences that I just didn't understand. But as a serial killer story with a solid bait and switch, unreliable narrator, and a real feeling of urgency, I really enjoyed it. The other books mainly deal with rich people getting got because of their money or whatever, so this was a fresh take.
Halloween Party. 2/5. Uh. I didn't like it. The weird "ritual" ending didn't feel deserved at all and it ultimately did not feel very halloweeny. Also wtf is up with british people and setting raisins on fire!?

October Halloween Movie Fest Day 20:
I didn’t have a ton of time tonight, and I was gonna watch It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown since I watched the parody yesterday, only to discover that it’s only available streaming with apple’s dumb tv plus whatever service. I am not even allowed to rent it, which has been sustaining me throughout this multi-streaming service mess. So, fuck that, in a snap decision I switched to Young Frankenstein, which was fun! …and also significantly longer than I expected, so I didn’t have time for Simpsons. Whatever, I’ll watch two tomorrow and edit 20 into this post.
Young Frankenstein is fun, although it doesn’t quite click for me. It’s some distance down my list of favored “humorous Halloweeny movies”, but it’s still on it. I’m also pleased I have now watched another Classic Horror Monster movie—not the Classic Movie itself, of course, but the monster. I’ve had werewolves, vampires, and now Frankenstein's Monster. Should probably made a point of watching The Mummy to get another one in. I have also had a loooooot of ghosts and ghost-like entities, a few people who can see ghosts, some witches, a cult, an alien, and some serial killers. One of whom was also a ghost. Ghosts might be my favorite kind of Halloweeny Horror, you guys. I’ve been saving some of the most Halloweeny favorites for the last few days, mainly Hocus Pocus and I am betting Trick R Treat will be best saved, but I am debating how best to tackle the rest of my list. We’ll see how it goes, I might do a couple of Sleepy Hollows next.
ETA: Treehouse of Horror 20 (Dial M for Murder, or Push # to Return to the Main Menu/Don’t Have a Cow, Mankind/There’s No Business Like Moe Business):
I almost put this one above THOH 2 or 3, guys. It is very good. Each segment has a solid plot, all three are atmospheric in their own unique ways, the first and second are a teensy bit Actually Spooky. The segments have clear inspiration without being slavish parodies, staying just true enough to the characters to make their behavior unsettling (looking at you, murderous Bart). I adore the stage-musical presentation of the third segment, which I assume was inspired by Sweeney Todd but clearly developed on its own from there, and the stage setting let it be darker in a safe way, and also funnier. Excellent episode. Mid-series classic right there, the only weak point is maybe the intro, and that’s only because it goes on a little longer than I like. The list is now 1, 5, 4, 7, 6, 3, 2, 20, 9, 8, 17, 16, 15, 19, 13, 12, 14, 10, 18, 11.
