✦ Make a vampiric playlist on whatever music platform u use, I personally enjoy listening to rock & metal!! ✦ Gear such as fake fangs, fake blood, & biting stim toys r really great to have! ✦ Keep a journal specifically 4 ur vampire kintype! Write some affirmations, dream gear, ur shifts (if u have shifts), etc!! ✦ Watch some vampire movies & read some vampire books! My favorite vampire movie is The Lost Boys!! ✦ Like myself, not all vamps r fans of the sunlight. I recommend staying in the shade, wearing sunscreen, or bringing an umbrella outside! ✦ Try to pull all nighters/be more active at night. However, be careful with this & if u cant stay up that is completely fine. ✦ Safely take walks during the night time, it can be very refreshing! ✦ Find community, find other vamps!! It's good to have others who understand. ✦ Dressing in dark alternative clothing always seems to set the mood 4 me! ✦ Decorate ur living space in halloween decorations! Make ur room feel more at home by making it vampy looking. Keeping ur room dark/dimmed is also very nice!! ✦ Drink red drinks, cranberry juice, pomegranate juice, energy drinks, etc! ✦ Eating meaty foods always gets my fangs to show but if u are vegetarian/vegan that's okay! I recommend eating fruits such as strawberries, plums, & peaches cuz it almost feels like biting into flesh!!

(domestic) equestrian alterhuman tips!!

hii! i'm grey, and i volunteer on a horse ranch. that means several days a week i'm around horses for probably close to 5 hours each day. i'm here to give you some tips related to things i've learned working with domestic horses! most of the horses i work with are either show or just plain domestic.

1. Food

most of the horses on the ranch i work on eat either something called Gro Strong 33, ADM, senior feed, alfalfa, or a mix of these.

most of these are pellet-shaped, or shaped like a long, skinny cylinder. certain cereals can look like this, and if you're a domestic horse therian/kin/whatever, maybe try eating cereal like this!

many horses on the ranch also get supplements, most of which are just powders than range from a green color to tan to white. it gets mixed in with their feed, which they eat dry. you could, IF SAFE, mix vitamin powder or supplements into the feed/cereal

a few horses on the farm get their food soaked, so it's soft and easy to eat (ex. the seniors do, and a horse named Ethan who choked once does) this makes the food like a mush, and it gets soft and squishy. soaking cereal in your desired whatever could recreate this!

2. Gear

almost year round (expect for winter), most horses wear some kind of fly gear: most of the time either a mask or a blanket.

fly masks, which cover most of the horses face (their ears, eyes, side of face, and nose) are to protect from flies irritating them and biting them. the portion over their eyes is normally mesh. a normal face mask could help recreate this feeling, but it's not ideal. i'm not sure how you could recreate a fly mask tbh

fly blankets, which lay over their back and strap under their belly, are so flies don't irritate their backs. i've only met two animals that normally wear fly blankets, a mule named Duke who was allergic to flies, and a clydesdale who stayed at the barn for one night while traveling. this is pretty easy to recreate, just tie some sort of fabric to your back with the knot on your belly

some horses wear things called bell boots. these are bell shaped things that cover their hooves so they don't throw their shoes (their shoes fall off and get lost). any kind of this that has elastic around your ankles and kind of splays our over your foot can mimic this :)

most horses typically only wear shoes if they live on rough, rocky terrain, to protect their hooves from injury. any horse can wear shoes, though. it's just more common for ones that live on rocky terrain to have shoes. metal sole shoes or hard sole shoes can mimic the feeling of wearing horseshoes :)

I’m currently struggling my alterhuman identity and I’m locked in with these three. I just dunno how to deal with the phantom feelings or what to do.

Hello hello! I have done something similar to werewolf, it is brown furred werewolf, i will link ya to that one! I can only do one at a time just cus i can get overwhelmed, but i will focus on the fae one though!! If ya want a diffrent one for merperson just send another ask and i will do that one! :} Another thing i should note, i use to know a bunch on fae, but sadly due to memory issues its been dwindling. So id also add in the suggestions, but also do research on different fae! Just so you can have a clearer picture of the different fae that exist! Now without further ado, lets get on with the tips/suggestions! ^^ 1} I know some fae like offerings such as honey and milk, maybe consume some of that? !!!Dont do so if it'll make ya sick or to the point it makes ya sick, but like as a lil snack or something!!! 2} Depending on what fae you might be, maybe wear elf ears? I know some fae depictions have elf like ears. 3} Maybe draw the way you would look! Or commission/request someone to draw this for you! It might help get a clearer picture as to what you migth look like, and might be nice to have something that looks like you do! 4} If yer comfortable, maybe try a lil makeup? Like stuff that is shimmery or something similar. Or put on markings you might have as a fae! 5} Try doin some research into fae themselves. In my research, many things are considered fae! Such as fairies, leprechauns, and even the banshee if im understanding right. Maybe that can help point you in the direction as to what fae you could be? Sadly this is all i can come up with! Winter habitat alterhuman tips

For nonhumanoids:

Create burrows out of blankets and pillows

Eat frozen or refridgerates berries

drink ice water to recreate cold bodies of water one would drink from

Light candles or use soap scented like winter forests and plants, like pine and berries

Try organizing your food in odd places about the house to recreate foraging and hunting when you have to find it

For humanoids:

Drink warm drinks like hot water, tea, and hot chocolate to recreate the cozy drinks one would have during winter

Keep the inside of your house or room cold so you can bundle up in coats or blankets

Listen to winter and holiday music

Light candles or use soap scented of winter foods like vanilla and cinammon

For both:

Play winter simulation games

Eat icecream and other cold snacks while out in the heat to help lower your body temperature

Imagine your old environment while meditiating

Try to find wonder in the idea of a new environment; you spent so much of your life in winter, it's exciting that you get to experience the colors and joys of other seasons!

Prefacing this by saying I only touched on a couple topics and this is already a lot of research. I don’t think anyone has to do this much digging if they don’t feel the need to, maybe you get an idea of what you look like and you don’t feel the need to question why you look that way which I think is a completely fair way to approach your appearance. These research topics may just be useful if you’re struggling with a part of your appearance, or if you’re like me and you’re just interested in piecing things together like this.

I’m still figuring myself out but when it comes to the physicality of my dragon form I actually try to avoid picking based on what I think looks cool. I’ll indulge in a bit of rule of cool — after all I do things to my physical appearance for no other reason then they’re cool all the time — but I try to ground everything first in how I feel as a dragon, then in myth and animal biology, then a bit of cool flare on top where I feel like it.

So for example my spikes are based on shifts that I have, then I look at animals with similar horns or spikes - what do they look like? What are they used for? Are there examples of mythical dragons with spikes like mine? What were those dragons meant to represent?

I haven’t figured out my wing shape yet but I’m basing it off a few concepts, this is something I’m also in the process of figuring out for my harpy form. What kind of flyer am I? Do I fly a lot or very rarely? Am I built for speed? Control? Distance? Silence? Power? Then I reference the wings of birds and bats with similar flying habits. I’m currently doing research into pterosaur wings specifically!

As for coloration there’s many ways to go about it, personally I don’t really know how to describe why I Know I have dark iridescence scales that can change color depending on mood and environment. When I experience shifts, especially very strong ones, I can just “see” my scales.

I think looking at mythical or fantastical dragons and help with that as well. It’s very common in fantasy to have certain colors that match their enchantments and breath weapons, like in dnd where white dragons live in cold environments and have ice breath so I know some people take that approach.

Speaking of environments, a lot of dragonkin have territorial instincts, or really connect with a certain environment so I think looking at what that environment would require for survival would be useful. Camouflage or bright warning colors? Are there reptiles from the environment you could reference? Or draconic mythology?

How I personally feel always comes first, I want everything to be grounded in my own experience as a dragon. Myth and biology research are useful to me for understanding why I have certain traits or how they may be used.

For any otherkin that identifies as a dragon, how do you choose a sort of "appearance" to use as a representation of yourself? I'm figuring that a lot of individuals decide their dragon's color and horns and fins and whatnot by picking what they like or think is cool (because something like curvy horns or being blue isn't necessary for being a dragon), but I haven't ever asked, so I have no clue what most dragons do.

Any replies would be appreciated, even if you are just friends with a dragonkin individual and know how they went about it.

therian tip of the day: hooking a water bottle to a carabiner you wear at the waist. it feels like a tail but is super stealth while also serving a practical use outside of alleviating dysphoria. you also look gay as hell 🐺👍
