the worst case scenario 2
i did decide to make this a little parter thing, but really want to be as sensitive as poss (honestly using this as a sort of therapy for what I see myself ah). So please   do not read if anything in the warnings may trigger. I very much am not trying to ‘romanticise’ these sorts of situations in any way but also be aware medically this is NOT accurate. This part is short but I think there will be more.
warnings: hospital - ICU, respirators / mention of death , maternal mortality / talk of family dynamics and abandonment of a child
[previous part]
The sight Nikki walked into is something that as a parent you never want to see. Walking into this cold and otherwise empty ‘relatives room’ to see her son collapsed in a world of pain onto his best mates chest. Tom was too busy sobbing to even notice her entrance but her and  Harrison instantly locked eyes . Not even able to muster up a greeting smile, Harrison just nodded her in, admitting her entrance to the most horrific situation.
It was about half an hour since she had been texting Haz, arranging when they’d be able to come and visit the newborn in hospital or whether it would be better to just wait till the new family got settled back at home, when Nikki had got a call from Tom’s number. With an excited grin she had instantly whipped her phone off the kitchen counter within one ring- a facial expression that didn’t last long at all.
Met with the distant sound of crying first, Harrison’s deeper voice then emitted itself from her phones speaker, alerting her to the fact everything was very not right. He’d asked her to come to the hospital, said it was Y/n, that the baby was fine and then hung up. Dom immediately agreed to come with her but right now he was still parking the car, having dropped Nikki off right at the front. It had sounded that bad.
Now, she knelt down infront of Haz and Tom, the latter who still was leaning over the arm rest and currently silently crying into his friends chest. Haz didn’t miss Nikki’s hands shaking as she reached out and rubbed up and down her sons back, the action prompting him to suddenly lean up to face her. He was broken. Totally and completely broken. Wordlessly, Nikki looked up for a second, communicating with Harrison so as if rehearsed he stood up and Nikki took his place in the chair - giving him a break from being Tom’s support. Beyond appreciative of how well Nikki could read a situation, Haz quietly but still in a hurried fashion made his way to the door.
Because he was about to crack too - Tom couldn’t see him like that, not right now at least. And so his legs, completely of their own volition, carried him down the hallways. He had absolutely no idea what time it was, all sense of time passing had completely been thrown off earlier in the morning. He was oblivious to a lot, very much in his own thoughts and only realised where he had ended up when a nurse he vaguely recognised managed to garner his attention.
“You’re here for baby Holland? She’s just round here.”
“I-“ He couldn’t respond but the nurse just nodded and then started off down the hallway, practically forcing the blonde to follow a couple of meters till they got to a perspex viewing window.
“She’s the little cutie in the far corner over there.” The brunette middle aged lady softly spoke as she pointed through the glass to the incubator in the corner. “ Don’t worry about all the equipment, the doctors already come round and cleared her. She’s good to go home when you guys are…are ready.” Her words had trailed off, Harrison guessed she didn’t know how to phrase the current ‘situation’ Tom and Y/n were in either. After a couple of moments, the nurse placed a gentle hand on Harrison’s shoulder, giving it a squeeze. “You want to have a cuddle? I know your not dad but…”
“Yeh-yeh…please.”
Harrison just felt awful. The little girl was barely hours into life and yet she wasn’t receiving nearly as much as love as she should be. Instead unnamed and alone in a cold and clinical setting. So he silently nodded away, taking in all the instructions the nurse gave as she sat him down in the arm chair next to the incubator.
Once she placed the little blanket wrapped bundle in his arms the nurse smiled gently up at Haz “You want to feed her? I’m sure she’d prefer it from you than me love?” Ah. Now Haz really was stuck between a rock and a hard place. She’d never been given a feed before - except presumably the midwifes.
“I-uh Y/n hasn’t even  so I probably shouldn’t…”
“I can promise you Miss Y/l/n would probably want her baby to be cared for by someone that loves her and that Miss Y/l/n trusts herself.” Ooof. How were nurses so intuitive? She literally read his mind and broken down all the ill-founded ideas Harrison had built up.
“I’m not her Dad.”
“But you care.” Looking down once and briefly at the squished little face that wormed herself into Harrisons broad chest a little more, he then immediately nodded in agreement. Looking almost relieved, the nurse handed him a bottle and directed him as to how to hold it. After mere moments she gasped happily, leaning back whilst the blonde boy waited for her input.
“She’s latched on easy peasy. You’re doing great, I can leave you to it if you want - I’ll only be round the corner.”
“Can you check if there’s any news on Y/n?” The kind lady nodded, before promptly exiting the room - leaving the two actually alone for the first time ever.
He didn’t even think about it, whilst Haz cradled her in one arm and held the bottle up at the angle shown by the nurse, he quietly spoke to the little bundle.
“I’m sorry you were lonely… your mum and dad love you lots and lots… we all do.” Not realising he was crying, Harrison almost scared himself when a single strangled and repressed sob escaped from his chest. “ You’re mum…. She’s a pain in the arse right?” Haz laughed a little wetly “ She’s sarky as hell and she always has an answer… you’d probably think she’s a badass… she is. And-and…. Your dad is just scared… He loves you I promise, he just… he’s worried about you mum.” Now there was actual tears welling up and overflowing his lower lash line, not matter how much he tried to blink them away. “But whatever… whatever happens. You got all of us kiddo… you got me.”
Jolted out of his thoughts by the ladies knuckles rapping twice on the door, Harrison immediately shook himself out of it, wiping his face on his arm to hopefully remove all the evidence of the slight emotional breakdown.
“Mr Osterfield… the doctor wanted me to let you know he’s on his way to talk to Mr Holland.”
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Harrison managed to get back to Tom, Nikki and now Dom before Dr Webber returned, so with a greeting nod to Dom he too took a seat opposite Nikki and Tom. His best mate wasn’t crying anymore, which could be considered a positive were it not for the sinisterly empty look in his eye. He looked almost robotic, staring almost straight ahead at the light grey wall, sat straight and rigidly except for his one hand clasped in Nikki’s.
“You went to see the baby?” Nikki broke the silence, making Harrison smile sadly over at her with a nod. It didn’t even look as though Tpm heard his mum speak, even if he was sat right next to her. “She’s okay?”
“Yeh…I gave her a bottle. She-she’s very cute.” Harrison could see Nikki’s face morph into one of kindness before she looked left toward her son. Nikki was still yet to see to unnamed girl but just thinking about her made her heart flutter. And then stop when she thought about what that little girl was already going through, barely hours into existence.
“You hear that Tom? Maybe you could go down and see her soon? After we’ve spoken to the doctor?” Nikki was only trying to do the best thing, Harrison knew it and deep down Tom did know it too. But now really really wasn’t the time for some gently encouragement from his mother, it wasn’t just Tom being a little stubborn. This was his whole entire world falling apart around him. He didnt have the energy or focus to even shoot down his mother, instead Tom chose to stay completely still - engrossed in his own thoughts.
From the outset, when you take that leap and say to a person ‘I think we should try for kids now’ you are completely putting yourself at the mercy of the other. But when they agree? Then it’s a commitment. Not it the same way marriage is - because that’s a completely selfish gesture, you get married because YOU want to be married to each other. Rather, agreeing to have a kid is a promise, a promise of something more. Promising that you are bringing this life into the world - and half of that life is yours. You create it together and it becomes a joint responsibility. You can never, no matter what people think, ever stop being a parent. At the end of it all there will be another person that knows, scientifically, it is half you. Even if they never met you - they still ‘knew’ you. They would know you had to exist, they would see things in themselves that cannot be explained rather than the influence of their creator.
And sure, it didn’t always work out that way. A parent would up and leave, a child always with questions and a sense of betrayal. But that child… they know you. Because there is half of you in them.
So it was Y/n and Tom together that was slumbering blissfully on a ward downstairs. That was the scary thing. Tom was so sure he didn’t have it in him. He  wouldn’t do this without her. He couldn’t be a dad to a baby without a mum. He couldn’t be a parent without Y/n.
Almost thankfully for the atmosphere in the room, a soft know had them all snatching their heads up the very same grey slightly potato like doctor waddled in, this time followed by 2 others; a tall, dark haired woman with a soft and empathetic smile; then another man but this one tall and slender, unlike the other two who were wearing professional clothes, he was donned in scrubs (with the scrub hate too).
“Mr Holland and uh… family” Dr Webber awkwardly greeted the new arrivals of Nikki and Dom, somehow apparently sensing they were Tom’s and not Y/n’s parents who were hours away. Oh fuck, Tom hadn’t even phoned them yet.
“This is Dr Alison Goodwell and then Dr Rohan Avinash, he is Y/n’s surgeon.” They filed in and took seats surrounding them, Dom and Harrison standing up to stand off to the side, not wanting to get in the way of the doctors. All Tom could do though was overanalyse everything. Why was the surgeon here? What was this other lady doing here? A  pathologist? — no, he wasn’t going to think like that. Then the taller and most scary looking of the three inched forward, commanding the attention of the whole room.
“Mr Holland, I just wanted to go over what happened. Ms Y/l/n developed plactental accreta, which was the cause of the what we call here a post partum haemorrhage. When you raised the alarm she had already lost, at best guess, 3 pints of blood which is a lot, there’s no denying. Dr Webber and his team quickly brought her up to my team in surgery. We transfused her with blood but we couldn’t stabilise her and the bleeding didn’t show any signs of stopping so we had to perform emergency surgery….” Dr Avinash slowed down as he took in how close Tom looked to bursting out in tears once again, offering him the chance to have a moment to collect himself. Vehemently shaking his head in refusal, Tom crung his hands together furiously. He just needed to know. “Okay… Now the nature of the surgery, because we had to be so quick…it is quite invasive and is a lot of stress to put on anyones body. That and the amount of blood she had already lost makes the situation very dangerous. Sometimes when this happens a persons heart-“ Tom’s breath halted in his throat at the mention of her heart, Harrison sharing the bleak trigger which made him shift uncomfortable between his two feet. “-notices this, it goes into what we call hypovoloemic shock, this just basically means its not getting enough volume of blood to pump properly. So we have had to stimulate Ms Y/l/n’s heart with electricity to keep it pumping-“
“You shocked her?” He felt so numb and now adrenalin was coursing through his own veins, images like you see on TV shows of her body arching up not he table from the volts of electricity.
“I’m afraid we did have to but it meant we could keep her stable enough to fix the bleed. I am sorry to say this but we’ve had to remove her whole womb because it was so damaged.”
“But Y/n?” Again Harrison lost all willpower of control, though to be fair he wasn’t sure if he was being impatient or not -  this doctor appeared to be delivering this news painfully slowly, as if to torture everyone as much as possible.
“Your fiancé lost a lot of blood and her body went through a lot” The towering doctor kept his focus on Tom the whole time, Harrison’s interjection seemingly falling on selectively deaf ears. “We’ve had to use a machine to control her breathing  and for the moment she is still in a very dangerous place. Right now she is stable but I don’t want to make any promises to you. We are nowhere close to out of the woods yet.” Seemingly, feeling compelled to add in, the brunette doctor spoke for the first time since entering.
“But it’s still one hurdle she has got through… Now that the surgeons are finished with Ms Y/l/n me and the other intensive care doctors will be keeping a very close eye on her okay? We are all going to be working with you and your family 24/7, to keep Y/n as comfortable as possible.” Her soft smile managed to somehow break through to Tom, who jerkily nodded while Nikki squeezed his hand tight. There had been a lot of that going on  today and even if Tom would say he wished nothing more that it was Y/n rather than his mums grip - he still appreciated it. The doctor continued, leaning forward so her elbows were resting on the tops of her thighs. “Right now she’s asleep and probably will be for quite a while. We first want to be sure she’s not in any pain, so she is sedated. Now assuming everything goes okay tonight and she stays stable we might want to think about possibly reducing that sedation, however for right now I hope you are all in agreement that we just want to make sure she’s comfortable?” The whole room nodded steadily in response which the doctor acknowledged with a satisfied smile.
“And we are all aware this is a lot to take in so if you have any questions or think of any please just let us know - it’s important that you guys are all fully in the know… How is your daughter?” Dr Webber started off so well, Tom was almost going to smile thankfully at him, until he mentioned it. Instantly, the cold and empty look reappeared behind Tom’s eyes as the room was held in silence for long enough to be uncomfortable. To be fair, the doctor wasn’t to know that recently Tom had taken to refusing to acknowledge he even had a child.
“I-she’s really good… the nurse there said she’s ready to leave whenever” Harrison had to show that at least someone was looking out for her, he couldn’t not.
“Okay” sharing a knowing look with Harrison, Dr Webber pitifully clasped his hands together, before looking back to Tom. “Would you like Dr Alison take you up to see her, sir?”
again pls let me know if anyone is very not okay with this, i can take it down and not write any more!

No More Divisions - Chapter One: Helping Out a Friend
JJ x Original Character
Tumblr media
Hey everyone, this is my first ever piece of writing ever so please give your feedback really appreciated. I'm hoping to maybe do another chapter since JJ and Callie (my oc) barely get to talk in this. I just wanna set up the story first. Thanks.
MASTERLIST
~
Living on the Kooks side of OBX did have it's perks. For one, Kooks had generators. This meant that when the storm hit a week earlier, it almost went unnoticed in my house. I had slept through the storm and I slept through the generators picking back up in seconds after the lights went out. A generator, which most Pogues went without, was not even a luxury where I lived. Another thing that I didn't see as a luxury but actually was is the air conditioner. I was deeply unaware of the Pogues situation when it came to sleepless nights because of the ghastly heat. I never knew what it felt like to not be able to sleep because you felt as if your body was on fire. I even slept with blankets on because the air conditioner was making me cold.
Although I had these luxuries growing up, I had one thing money couldnt buy; true friends and real life experiences.
Since my family was wealthy, I had never needed a job. I soon came to realize that if I was ever going to learn about discipline or build on a work ethic, I was gonna need to get a job. I knew Mr. Heyward needed an assistant since his son Pope had recently become unreliable during this summer so I applied for the position and got it the same day I applied. I actually loved working for Mr. Heyward. Although a bit standoffish at first, he is a complete marshmellow once you get to know him. The other thing I got to know was how much he loved Pope. Mr. Heyward suffered greatly to provide his son with the skills he needed to get a scholarship. While we worked, he told me of his sacrifices as a father but also as a person with dreams. I told him that one day his dreams would come true and Pope would help him. For someone who's father rarely shows any semblance of interest in them, it was so touching to see Mr. Heyward talk about his love for his son.
As for the friends, I couldn't make friends at the academy and I knew it was for one reason; surfing. I had been obsessed with surfing since I watched the movie Soul Surfer when I was a kid and had been eager to hit the waves ever since. With lots of lessons paid for by my parents, I was a natural now and spent most of my free time surfing. Many of the Kooks at my school could care less about surfing and more about material things so I got along with virtually no one at school.
That is, until I met Rafe. Rafe was in my science class and very polite to me when we first met. He was the first person to talk to me as if I hadn't just came to OBX from outer space and I actually enjoyed our conversations together. Eventually, after many conversations in science, he invited me to sit with him at lunch. This is where I met Sarah, my now best friend. Sarah and I quickly became thick as thieves; Sarah and I's love for the environment what was initially brought us together but not long after we met we began talking about everything. And eventually, I told her about my crush on Rafe. And she told me his crush on me.
Rafe and I dated for 6 months, which is long when you're 16 and never had a boyfriend before. This was the old Rafe. The one before he graduated and started changing. Before he started sniffing crack and hanging out with drug dealers. We had been having problems towards the end of our relationship, right after he graduated, and I was naive to believe that maybe it was my fault. When I saw him snort crack for the first time at a party, I knew for sure that it was him and not me. I broke up with him that night.
I didn't tell Sarah about the drugs. I wish I did but it never felt like the right time and although I was getting over Rafe, I still felt obligated to hold onto this secret for him.
Sarah and I continued to be friends and we were the closest we'd ever been. Until she met John B. I had nothing against Pogues but Sarah had been with Johm B. for most of the summer on a wild goose chase that turned into a summer romance, and I was getting tired of being the third wheel. For too long I had been cast aside and stood up. Whenever we'd make plans, it was always another lame lie from Sarah. First it was that John B. and Sarah needed to get onto the ferry to read the archives, then John B., his Pogue friends and Sarah needed to sneak into a house to find hidden treasure. I knew that all of her stories were too preposterous and that there was no way in hell that any of these stories were true.
That is, until the night Sarah called me from her house.
It was 8pm when she had called me and I was just catching up a show I was watching. When I looked at the caller ID, and I saw Sarah's name, I almost didn't want to pick up. She had neglected me so far this summer I almost felt as if I should teach her a lesson. This mentality didn't last long because I had already accepted the phone call before I could talk myself out of it.
"Hey." I stated bluntly, secretly hoping Sarah was calling to apologize for lying and blowing me off for the beginning of the summer.
"Hey Callie, I need your help."
"Really? You need my help -" I was about to go in on her for ignoring me and lying but then I heard her cries and I stopped.
"I'm sorry, but I really need you right now."
So Sarah explained everything. Most of what she had told me was the actual truth and not a lie like I thought. They had found the $400 million in gold and before they could retrieve it, John B. had tried to kill her father on a boat. He had come to her and tried to tell her that her father was lying but she was so upset and confused she couldn't hear it at the time. Now, two hours later, Sarah was starting to have her suspicions and needed my help.
"Well, what do you need my help for?"
"You're helping Mr. Heyward with the landing strip tomorrow right?"
"Yeah, we're supposed to make it longer because the plane is heavier." I answered, confused on what this had to do with John B or her father.
Sarah gasped. "Of course... heavier."
"Sarah, what's wrong?" I couldn't understand how the plane tied into all of this.
"Callie, I need you to get to John B. tomorrow. I'm supposed to get on that plane tomorrow but I can't. I need you to get to John B. and tell him where I am and I need you to stall the plane from taking off." Sarah spoke quickly and quietly, almost scared that someone could hear her.
"Okay, I'll find John B. and stall the plane. But Sarah, what's on the plane that's making it heavier. I got to know?" I'm almost one hundred percent sure I already know the answer.
"I think you know Callie. Bye."
And I did know. Sarah's dad got his hands on the gold.
~
When I finally got to the land strip the next morning, everything was in order and ready to go. We only had to wait for Sarah and Ward Cameron, her father. I tried to think of ways to stall the best I could. Mr. Heyward entrusted me and was long gone by the time I arrived. At least he wouldn't be here to see all the mischief I would create.
As I watched the dozens of men starting to transfer the gold onto the plane, I stared off into the distance and planned. As I stared off, something caught my eye. A hundred yards away, behind a fence and trees was a wagon with four passengers. One had binoculars on, watching me. Or more specifically, the plane getting loaded on. I recognized the wagon immediately as John B.'s and dropped my clipboard and ran to him.
I remembered Sarah's words. I knew this was my chance to help her and be the friend I knew I could be. She had told me this was between life and death and the way she said it made me believe it.
As I got closer to John B., his friends and the fence, I could see them start panicking and back away from the fence. The last thing I wanted was for them to get nervous and drove away so I decided to shout at John B and his friends.
"Hey! John B.!" I looked at John B.'s friends. I noticed a girl from my school. "Kiara!" Then I looked again and noticed Pope Heyward, my boss's son. I then looked one more time and saw a blond boy I didnt know the name of. He was the only one not backing away. It was almost as if he knew me but I didn't know him.
As soon as I said their names, they stopped and watched me approach the fence. Once I reached the fence, John B. spoke first, mostly because I could see he recognized me and didn't see me as a threat.
"Callie!" He smiled and waved, walking closer to the fence. "Where's Sarah?"
"She's coming here. Ward is putting her on a plane with the gold and they're leaving today." I panted, trying to catch my breath from running all the way here.
"I knew it!" Pope was gleaming with joy.
John B.'s face wasn't as happy. "We have to make sure she doesn't get on that plane."
"I don't know how to stop it." I shrugged my shoulders and then looked again at everyone. "Any ideas?"
Kiara gasped and pointed to something behind me. "We don't have much time to think. Sarah's here."
I turned and saw Sarah getting out of her dad's car. She had a short conversation with him then walked off towards one of the men loading the gold onto the plane. Before I had time to react, her father was pulling her onto the plane as she screamed for help.
"Back away from the fence!" John B. screamed as he ran back into his car and started it.
I did as I was told and watched as John B. put his car in reverse and then drive forward as fast as he could into the fence. I was surprised when he knocked it down in one blow, but then again I wasn't so surprised. John B. was very determined.
I turned to Kiara, Pope, and the blonde haired boy who, on closer inspection, I determined had to be the hottest guy I've ever seen. He had a chiseled jaw and two slits for eyes. He seemed in a perpetual state of his eyes being in slits that I thought either he needed sunglasses or he was upset too much. He was watching me watch him and before anything could get too uncomfortable, Kiara spoke up.
"Sarah told us about you."
"Really?" I was so surprised. There was this little, annoying voice in my head that told me that Sarah might've been embarrassed of me. Sometimes I could be embarrassing.
"Yeah. She said how amazing you are, just that you couldn't believe her at first."
I smiled awkwardly. "This is all just very hard to believe."
"Sarah!" I heard a scream from behind me and I whipped my head around.
Now, John B. Had his car in front of the plane, blocking it from leaving the strip. He was trying to get Sarah out of the plane but Ward had gotten out first and was yelling at John B. and pushing him. Sarah had then emerged from the plane and was trying to calm both of them down. Before anything could get too physical, police sirens were heard from a distance and I looked back to Kiara, Pope and the blonde haired boy.
"I got a scholarship..." Pope said as he looked to where the sirens were coming from.
"I just posted bail." The blonde haired boy said, chuckling to himself.
Kiara looked to me. "Go help John B. and Sarah. John B. knows were to find us after. I'll get these guys outta here."
I nodded and gave each person a little salute before running off, heading into the dragon's den. As I got closer, the screaming got louder and before I knew it, I was in the middle of a fight I had no place being in.
"Callie?" Ward said to me, surprised to see me here even though he knew I worked for Mr. Heyward.
I ignored Ward right now. Mostly because I was mad at him. If all of what Sarah has told me she thinks is true, Ward is a terrible human being. Now I know where Rafe gets it from.
"Sarah, are you ok?" I asked, touching her should.
She smiles and nods at me. "Thanks so much. I love you." She grabs my hand and squeezes onto it. I squeeze back.
John B. was too into yelling at Ward right now that he didn't acknowledge me. I didn't blame him though. If anything, this was very normal way to react when knowing the information John B. did.
"You're gonna pay for what you did!" John B. yelled again, stepping in front of Sarah and I too protect us. Even in time like this, John B. was selfless. I regret not getting to know him better.
"You hear that? Those sirens are coming for you John B.!" Ward yelled back, turning around to point at the Sheriff's car driving to a stop behind Ward.
As the Sheriff gets out of the car, Ward calls out to her and starts pointing fingers at John B. "That's him, Sheriff. He almost tried to kill us!"
"That's not true!" I yelled, now getting angry with Ward. What makes him think he's charismatic enough to lie when there are witnesses here?
"Callie..." The Sheriff calmly raised her hand at me to silence me. "I know who the culprit is."
She raised her gun in the air and pointed it at Ward. "Ward Cameron, raise your hands in the air. You're being arrested for the murder of Big John Routledge."
Sarah and I gasped. Although we all had our theories, seeing this all unfold in front of us was another level of surreal. I grasped onto Sarah's hand tighter as she cried into my shoulder and as John B. looked to us for the first time. I could tell he was holding back tears. I could not imagine what he was going through. After all this time...
"Get on your knees," The Sheriff warned and Ward did as she demanded, slowly turning around and kneeling in front of us.
I couldn't believe I had slept in the same house as a murderer. I tried to count the number of times I had a sleepover at Sarah's in the last year. It was too many too count. And the whole time, something sinister was happening through the cracks of the walls.
I was almost she glad to see something so traumatizing for Sarah happen because at least a murderer was getting put away for good. I was so wrapped up in how Sarah, John B., and myself felt that I didn't notice, as the Sheriff was reading Ward's Miranda Rights, he had turned around and tried to over power the Sheriff. Before anyone had time to react quickly enough, a gunshot was fired from the Sheriff's gun.
I had closed my eyes after the shot was fired and I imagined Ward's body dropping to the ground. I felt the gravel shake as a body fell to the ground but when I heard John B. gasp, I had a sickening fear it wasn't Ward's body that was falling.
When I opened my eyes, my suspicions were proven to be right. In front of us lay the Sheriff's slowly dying body, a bullet wound from her chest bleeding out onto the landing strip. Sarah was screaming and John B rushed to apply pressure to the Sheriff's wound. I, on the other hand, could only cry.
I cried because of the Sheriff's wound and of the death of John B.'s father and how Ward, a man I trusted and looked up to, killed him. But I cried mostly because it wasn't Ward holding the gun. Ward hadn't shot the Sheriff. The guy standing in front of me did.
Rafe, sweaty and eyes bubbling over with tears, was holding the gun that shot the Sheriff.

Mission Failed- One shot
Trigger warnings
Cursing
Blood (lots of it)
Near character death
Virgil was sitting in his room not quite sure what to do for the day. He wasn't sure what time Roman had planned on taking him on his quest. Roman had told him Virgil he wanted him to help him in taking down a specifically hard dragon witch. Virgil decided that he would go ahead and take his shower and get dressed.
He wore a black long sleeves shirt with his ripped skinny jeans. He plops on the end of his bed and pulled his socks and shoes on. He then looked in his closer for his jacket that he had hung uo earlier that day. He pulls it on cs re fully and sips it up carefully. He then mived back to his bed. He grabs his phone and headphones. He went over to his door, silentlt debating whether he looked good enough to be seen. He shook his head at the nervous thoughts and plugged his headphines in and played music. He oulled his hood up and made his way into the living room.
Patton was in the kitchen cooking the large lunch he always does when Roman had a mission the following night. Roman was probably in his room getting ready for the mission. Logan sat in his recliner a book resting on his leg. He was in one of those dazes where his eyes were seeing the words but not really reading them.
I walk over and carefully tap his shoulder causing him to snap out of his daze "Oh. Good afternoon Virgil. Did you require soemthing of me?"
Virgil shook his head "No... Just wanted to make sure you were alright. You were a bit dazed just then"
Ligan adjusted his glasses "I am indeed troubled. This missiin seems unnesacary and very dangerous."
Virgil nods "I know but if Roman really wants to take it down I need to be there to make sure he doesn't get himself killed"
Logan gave a concerned look but nods, none the less. Virgil nodded as well and made his way to the kitchen where he was met with Patton handing him a plate "morning kiddo!!"
Virgil smiles and takes the.plate and sets it down on the the table and he sat down "morning and thanks"
Virgil began to eat and only stopped when he saw Patton set a glass of orange juice on the table for him. He sipped it and then stood to throw his stuff away. He smiles weakly at Patton. But before he could say anything Riman walked in while running a hand through his hair. He carefully grabbed a plate and began to eat quickly soon finishing.
Patton looked concerned but put a smile.on his face none-the-less " you're gonna give yourself the hiccups kiddo"
Roman set his plate in the sink and scarfed down an entire glass of orange juice in 2 gulps. He then grabbed Virgils sleeve knowing the skin on skin contact would scare him "Thanks for the food pat!! Gotta go get Virgil his gear"
With that said, Roman dragged Virgil to his bedroom. His room was intense and very red and white. He let go of Virgils sleeve and head over to his closet. He opened it and it had red clothes. He then closed it again. He clapped and all the clothes were replaced by a single outfit which was identical to Virgils. Roman plucked it from the hanger and handed it to Virgil, who took it in his arms looking cinfused.
"The fabric is thicker and more durable. It'll protect you from common weapons" He spoke while fishing in a large tote pulling out a long butterfly knife amd offering it out to Virgil.
Virgil took the knife slowly glad that it was closed. He then sets it on the bed. He walked into the bathroom and changed his clothes as did Roman in the bedroom. Virgil came back out feeling a bit more heavy but not to much. Roman stood there with a pair of black combat boots and dark purple laces "Here ya go. These'll help you with the muddy and tough terrain."
Virgil nods and took them he then slipped them on and laced them up tightly. He set his black tenis shoes on the bed on top of his clothes. He then looks at Roman who was collecting some essentials like food and a map and water bottles. Virgil slipped out to tell the others bye and grab his headphones from his room as well as a couple extra phone batteries. He had a feeling that he would need some music to keep himself calm and sane during this long adventure.
He made his way to his room but noticed his door was already open. He peeked in and saw Patton carefully folding some of his clothes and had his headphones set on his bed with the box of fully charged portable chargers "D...Dad?"
Patton looked over and smiles "Heya Virge. Sorry for being in here wity out your permission but i thought I'd help you get some stuff ready for your trip." He handed Virgil a book bag full of the clothes and then the small box of portable chargers and placed his headphones on his head for him "see? Much easier. Oh and theres a book in their from Logan. He said something about the book changing?"
Virgil nods gently "Yeah. Thanks dad" Virgil was the pulled into a hug and he had to manuever the things in his arms to hug back.
He smiles and Patton looks up at him "Be careful out there alright kiddo?"
Virgil nods and stepped back "probably shouldn't keep the prince waiting. We'll be back in a few days at most." He smiles nad Patton nodded. He then disappeared out the door. Virgil shook his head and plugged in his phone and turned on his music. He pockets his phone and heads out the bag on his back and the box in hand.
He got back to Roman room.to see him standing there with a bag similar to Virgils but white instead of black. "Patton?" Virgil says which cayght Romans attention.
Roman looks over and nods "yeah..
He was hust in my room while i went to get some water bottles from the kitchen. Also you forgot this" Roman handed him the butterfly knife which he then pocketed.
Virgil gave a small sigh and Roman was then walking over to a large door.
[Time Skip to them settling after their first day of searching for the dragon witch]
Roman and Virgil had finally found a good spot to take a break. They had found some tracks but othet than thay not much else. They decided to set up a small camp to rest for a bit. Roman had suggested they take turns as look out. Virgil took first shift sense he didnt usually fall asleep til later. Luckily Patton had packed a blanket in one of their bags. Roman layed it out and began to get his rest. Virgil sat on the floor of the small cave they had settled and started a fire in.
It was a few hours in and the moon eas at its peak. Roman was going to go wake Roman up but heard a loud ruffle in the shrubbery just a bit into the forest. Virgil got nervous... Extremely nervous. He wanted to go wake Roman up but what if it was nothing and he was just imagining things.
Virgil worked up the courage and made his way over to the bush only to see a bot of reptilian scales lead deeper into the forest. He drew his butterfly knife and carefully flicked it open and following. He didnt realize how far he had gone from the cave and then he felt something wrap around his ankle and tug his leg from below him.
He let out a loud yelp and his back hit the muddy and drit worn floor. He opens his eyes that had fallen shut in the fall. Hovering over him was a woman like figure with lots of scales and a black witches hat. Virgils froze up but then his flight or fight reflects kicked in. He kicked up ward at the creature whi gave out a loud scream of pain and he turned onto his stomach pushing himself up as quickly as possible and began to book it.
He kept running despite the burning in his legs. He could hear the sound of wings behind him. He decided to scream to wake Roman up "Roman!!!"
He didn't know if it worked but before he could get back to the cave he felt something wrap aroumd his middle and pluck him harshly from his run and knocking the wind out of him. He felt the grip tighten until he was sure he felt a rib crack and he let out a loud scream of pain. That did the trick, Roman jerked uo and rushed out of the cave to see Virgil being crushed by the dragin witchs tail. The Dragon witch noticed Roman amd tossed Virgil aside. Roman grabbed his sword and went to fighting. Soon Virgil was regaining his barings and looked up to see Roman backed up against a wall sword lost in the dirt. The dragin witch was about to shoot a large green spike like beam at him but Virgil kicked himself into gear and lushed Roman out of the way so the beam nailed Virgil straight through the stomach. It was as if a sword had just been thrust through him but it easily cut through the clothes. Virgil was knocked to the side and his back the 2. Virgil heard Roman scream out a 'No' and then a clink of metal was heard and a large wail of pain coming from the creature and a thud.
Virgil felt a choke course up through him. He then let out a weak cough and some blood spilled from his mouth. He had his hands grasping at his stomach. His short was ripped and a puddle of blood was forming around him. The thud of feet and soon Roman had dropped down next to Virgil rolling him on his back and moving his hands to see the wound "No No No!!!" Roman held his hands to the wound causing Virgil to let out a wail of pain.
Roman the remebered that Logan could help. He scooped Virgil up in his arms and began to run as fast her could to the exit of the imagination. By the time he got there Virgil was slipping in and out of counciousness and princeys short was soaked in blood his white shirt now matching his sash.
Roman kicked in the door to the imagination and screamed out for help "Logan!! Patton!! Help!!" Patton was first to awaken and he rushed out and the sight alone made him gag and cover his mouth. He helped get Virgil to the couch and alogan had rushed out. His eyes widen and he adjust his glasses to make sure he was seeing correct "oh... Oh dear Lord" he ran off and returned with a large med kit
He dropped down onto the floor next to the couch and carefully renoved the now uncouncious Virgils clothing to reveal his blood stained pale skin. Patton had to hide his face in Romans chest and sobbed. Roman had a hand in Virgils hair and noticed Virgils eyes began to flutter open.
"R...Roman..." Virgils voice was hoarse and once he talked his throat clenched and he coughed out more blood.
Logan then pressed the cleaning supplies to Virgils would and he let out a loud scream of pain to which Patton almost want to stop Logan but instead dropped down and held Virgils head gently "its okay Virge... I've got you..."
Virgil began to scream as Logan pulled the bits of cauterized clots out. Patton held him tightly and let tears silently fall down his cheeks and then Virgils body went limp. Patton started to freak out but Logan spoke up with an uncharactierstically shakey voice "it was blood loss and pain. He'll be okay. Roman, Patton go get washed up and get me lots of warm wash clothes ams pain meds."
Logan began to suture him up and Virgil stayed unconscious. The 2 did what they were told and Roman came back with many wash clothes amd 2 pails of warm water. Logan nods and began to clean the area a bit more thouroughly and the warmth would ease the soreness as much as possible.
A few hours had passed of Roman explaining excatly what happened to Patton and Logan. Logan was haply to know that Virgil got hurt helping Roman but would have prefered if neither of them had gone period. Patton was glad that they defeated the beast but scared for Virgil. Virgils eyes began to flicker open. He glanced around a bit and recognized the living room ceiling, a place he spent bours staring at sometimes. Virgil then let his head fall to the side and saw Patton, Roman and Logan talking at the table.
Roman... He was safe and no injuries. He was safe. He saved him. Virgil let out a sigh of relief but that hurt... Really bad. Virgil let out a small groan that caught the others attention. Roman was the first up. He came over quicjly and hugged Virgil gently. Virgil winces but hugged back weakly. Patton hugged as well and Logan shooed them off of him "Virgil is most likely in extreme pain from this embrace. I recomend you both refrain from touching him."
With this explanation they both back off. Only then did Virgil realize that he only wore his pants amd his entire upper half was bare aside from a lot of cause wrapped around one shoulder and covering his entire torso. He blushed and Logan noticed. He pulled a blanket up over Virgils chest which Virgil smiled weakly at. He rest his head back on pillow and gave a breathless chuckle "H...Hey" He finally managed to Roman
Roman smiles "Hey..." He looked.like he had been crying and it hurt Virgil "you good? You weren't hurt were you?" At first Roman thought Virgil was making fun of him but the look Virgil had was to sincere and it made Romans heart shatter
"No... You were though... Badly..." Roman carefully let some more tears roll down his cheeks.
Virgil shook his head "Nothing i can't handle... I just did my job. I went with you to make sure you weren't killed. I succeeded"
Roman buried hos face into Virgils chest and began to weep. Virgilw as surprised but let him and ran a hand through his hair weakly. Roman soon calmed down and looked up "I should have saved you..."
Virgil shook his head "You did... You brought me here"
Roman smiles and ran a hand through Virgils nessy hair "I guess you are officially by prince now..."
"Nah... To much pressure..."

from boy to man
ros alarm clock went off like a siren loud and annoying, turning it off and giving a groan he sat up in bed seeing a strange box in his room. excitedly hopping out of bed his sleepiness fading almost immediately as he read who it was from. "from dad" he read aloud, his father wasn't able to help with todays assignment leaving early that morning to go to work at his uncle cas' bike shop. but apparently leaving a present before he left, a small black box with blue ribbon and card. shaking the box and wondering just what his father could have given him, ro shrugged opening the box and finding a note with something wrapped in tissue paper. taking the note and opening it carefully *to pharaoh my only son, I wanted to give you something to make you proud and bring you joy on this stressful day. I know your mother would be proud no matter what with all the love in the world for her son. love dad p.s take good care of her for me* "her?" he questioned as his curiosity ran wild. ripping of the tissue paper to reveal a leather jacket, not only a leather jacket his leather jacket the one he wore when he met mom and the one he got after his assignment. ro cradled the jacket like you would a child, because he knew in holding this jacket he held all his memories from even before he was born. placing the jacket on his bed and looking at the time seeing it was late and the sun was about to rise but he still had awhile before the test was to start he decided to take a shower, after his shower got dressed and threw on the jacket running down stairs to feed bruce. “bruce, brucy where are you” he called out to the dog who was usually in his dads room, hearing the sound of paws he turns and find bruce behind with his favorite toy scruff. “you ready to eat brucy” giving a tired yawn which he could only assume was a yes, laughing he poured his food into his doggy bowl. ro then poured himself a bowl of cereal and sat down to eat, when the two were finished ro took him out for a walk in the woods taking in all the beautiful scenery on the way. when ro got back from walking bruce he checked the mail seeing a black envelope he took a deep breath “so it begins”. opening the envelope to find a deep green piece of paper which said *from boy to man your journey begins here your first task is to hunt a fully grown deer*, now this wasnt much of a challenge but ro didnt really hunt the grown up deers he mostly hunted the younger ones who have not fully grown their horns yet for the simple fact that it was less painful. but he knew he could do it. letting his beast side take over as his eye color changed and claws grew from his fingers, his teeth became as sharp as shattered glass, bruce ran back to his dads room with scruff leaving ro to himself. a violent howl ripped through him as his beast side took over, sniffing the air the beast caught wind of his prey and ran to hunt. the beast came to a wide and open meadow finding a herd of deer two big one and three or four pairs of does and fawns, but something wasnt right he heard footsteps and smelled silver. hunters were always in the woods at strange or early hours, but these hunters werent after deer thats for sure or they would have shot them by now. no they were after something else something big apparently, he could hear them talking from where he hid. “do you think they will be out now?” said one to the other “i dont know but youll scare them off if you keep talking so shut up bubba”, growling the beast crept slowly towards the hunters getting as close as he could before letting out a roar louder than thunder. the hunters screamed and ran leaving all their guns and equipment behind in the process the beast laughed as he literally scared the pee out of them. but what he didnt notice in his moment of triumph is that he also scared off the deers, growling the beast looked toward the direction the hunters ran planning to maul them to death later. sniffing the air to find the direction in which the deers went. catching there scent he ran off in the direction and found a doe and her fawn, with them not being the one that he wanted or rather needed he left to catch the scent one of the big ones. smelling the scent of one near the city, howling to the moon to ward off any others he made his way to the city. sneaking towards the animal slowly a growl rumbling in his throat like distant thunder, the animal turned suspecting a figure behind them from some noises heard from the woods but saw nothing. ro rose up like a phoenix out of the ashes and strutted towards the animal pouncing an the unsuspecting victim, ripping into the animals flesh its blood covering him like war paint. soon after the struggling stopped and the life in the creature was all gone ro dragged the animal to a tall cliff howling to the moon as the sun rose. his test was over he passed beating out the hunters winning a struggle with a deer facing his fear was all apart of leaving his teens and coming of age.
A/N: @flipsorenson99 @devilsnevercry1388 @the-last-phoenix this is what i meant and the story i was talking about he come of age ro is no longer 19 now he 20

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
His heart was thundering in his chest, so much so it drowned out all other sounds making all the doctors words fade into the background. Conciously, he really was trying to listen to what the doctor was saying; consciously he knew she was trying to prepare him to see Y/n; consciously he knew she knew he wasn’t okay. But really? It didn’t matter, and as they drew closer to his fiancé Tom felt an urgent sense of relief purely know she was there. She was there and she wasn’t dead…yet.
Only two people were allowed to go up, just because the nature of the ward - everything was meticulously controlled, including the comings and goings of visitors. If you’ve never been in an ICU it’s a pretty hard environment to describe. Really, it’s just another hospital ward, with capacity of about 20 beds. Each bed has much more equipment surrounding that the average and a nurse is stationed per patient, monitoring every possible variable that the machienes are measuring, so any trend (either positive or negative) can be identified at the earliest point. Though in everyones head, it seems as though ICU is a common place ending up for some unfortunate sod when something bad happens, it’s actually really rare for someone to be so ill and dependant on medicine to maintain normal body functioning. Only the most severe trauma, infection of the most dangerous microorganism, surgery of such high stakes normally make an appearance on the ward. And ,on average, between 8-20% patients that are admitted to an ICU never make it out.
And those grim figures were unignorable to anyone. As soon as you walk through the doors, the atmosphere is intense and ineffable. It’s not spoken, but is so incredibly morbid it makes anyone shiver.
Dom felt this, squeezing his sons shoulder as he followed Tom and the doctor, just a pace or so behind them. Having offered to go with Tom, whilst Harrison took Nikki to see the baby, Dom was now feeling just as clueless as his son did. Except he was actually listening to what the doctor was trying to warn them about and it scared him. The three, made it to the door and with a swipe of her ID card the doctor admitted the Holland men in. Gratefully, none of the staff took any notice of who was walking in, they were much too busy for that - Dom was incredibly relieved, had someone recognised Tom when he was in this state, god knows what would’ve happened.
The doctors pace was with purpose, perhaps so that the two couldn’t spend too long ogling the other patients in the beds - who all looked almost unhuman with the amount of tubes and wires coming out and into them. But then, she slowed up, halting infront of a bay about 5 or 6 down the ward. Spinning on her heel and with a subtle nod to momentarily release the nurse from her post at Y/n’s bedside, to give them a bit of privacy, she looked at the two men.
“You can touch her, just be gentle with the wires.”
Shellshocked and terrified, Tom was frozen those 2 metres away from the bed barely able to see her face over all the equipment. Yet undoubtedly, it was his finance’s delicate visage lying on the white pillow, with a thick white mouthpiece and tube covering her mouth and stuffed into her nose. Not able to move, both Dom and Dr Goodwell sensitively waited - it was an adjustment to say the least, seeing someone you knew so well look so different. With quiet tears starting to roll down his eyes, Tom eventually started to inch toward the bedside, taking his time to try and absorb everything of this frankly ridiculous situation. He couldn’t get over how, even considering it all, above her nose it just looked like Y/n. Like she was asleep in their bed, eyes closed as if she had once again  fallen asleep infront of a random Netflix movie Tom had bugged her enough to watch in bed. And it was, ever so slightly comforting. That was still her, that was still the love of his life lying there. And she was still alive - which given the last few hours, was enough.
Reaching the bedside, Tom naturally reached out and stroked the top of her head delicately, pulling into place a few rogue strands that seemed to have a mind of their own - she had always hated when her hair got frizzy. The picture had Tom’s mind casting back to their first holiday, a serene if quick few days in Fiji-  though Y/n didnt know this , that holiday had been one of the most important times in their relationship for Tom. Until then, given the nature of his job, the couple had only ever managed brief periods together. They spent time together as and when they could in between Tom’s busy schedule but it was never as long as they’d like. Somehow though, he’d managed to squeeze a few days away to surprise Y/n with the trip.
It was everything he’d ever hoped it would be and more. In fact it was then Tom was oh so sure he would be spending the rest of his life with her. This thought crossed his mind on the last morning, when he had for once woken up before Y/n - her head mere cms away from his on the pillow. Just like now, her hair had been all over the place and her sparkling green eyes locked shut. Contrastingly though, in Fiji the sight had made him smile softly; now it just made him cry again.
“Would you like a minute alone Mr Holland? We will just wait outside?” Not even turning round to properly respond to the doctor, Tom just nodded violently, not taking his eyes off his fiancé - waiting till he heard his Dad and the doctor leave the bay; then the curtains be completely drawn to a close, before he shakily cleared his throat to whisper.
“Hey darling… you um-you’ve scared me shitless today… and… and I’m supposed to be the dramatic one in the relationship.” Chuckling wetly, Tom clasped his other hand in Y/n’s - still mindful of the IV port coming out of the top of her wrist. Not that he was expecting any sort of response, yet the lack of her squeezing his hand back still had his heart sink. “Look I…I love you so bloody much and I really need you to get better okay? You’ve never listened to me before but I really am begging you to now, I just.” Swallowing thickly, he shut his eyes momentarily and delicately rested his forehead on hers - his touch feather light. Just needing to feel her. “I just really need you and I really love you., okay?”
Unsurprisingly he didn’t get a response. The rhetorical question hung in the air alone, safe the mechanical whir of the ventilator and various chimes of the machines and monitor, till his Dad came in. Grasping and squeezing his shoulder lightly, Dom provided the stimulus for his son to unfold from over the bed, standing upright, as both men just took in the sight of Y/n lying there for a minute or two.
“I need her Dad. I-I-“
“I know Tom.” Speaking so quietly it was barely audible, Dom’s eventual agreement at what Tom was saying was in a way a relief. Haz and his mum had both either been saying or implying that they would be okay no matter what - which came from a good place but was so infuriating. Because god forbid, if this situation got worse Tom knew it wouldn’t be okay. Nothing would ever be okay again. So his Dad’s simple acknowledgment meant a lot, causing Tom to turn round and embrace his slightly shorter father.
Dr Goodwell silently watched the exchange for a short while and once the men eventually pulled away she stepped forward to give some more information. She went through what all the biggest and scary looking tubes and wires were doing for Y/n, before explaining the next steps.
“Now as I said before we are sedating her at the moment, while we wait and see if she gets any complications from the surgery that are better treated while she is asleep. By this afternoon we will have a clearer idea and by that point we may choose to withdraw that sedation. It’s important that you are aware though that she might not wakeup immediately. Sometimes some people that have suffered similarly to your fiancé will be unconscious for a while in what I’d presume you’ve heard of as a ‘coma’. Now it’s not as dramatic as you see on TV shows, it’s just Ms Y/l/n’s brain giving her body a chance to recover. It’s often a longer process, which I know is something you don’t want to hear, but I have to be honest.” The doctor was stern but in a softer and from-a-caring-place. “These patients are suggested to possibly recover quicker if they have a steady support network behind them, which it seems like she does. That means that you need to look after yourself so you can help her sir, especially in what could be a long process. It’s not going to be helpful for Yn if you’re killing yourself trying to be here all the time… It seems like Y/n already has quite a big group of you here for her, so please remember you’ve got all of her care team here and everyone else to help you too….Does that make sense sir?”
“Tom” His Dad, in a gentle but firm warning tone, urged Tom to speak and to listen. Properly listen.
“Yeh… I-yeh It’s just all a lot right now.”
“Of course… and we promise that if anything changes with her condition, you will be phoned straight away. You are welcome to stay as long as you want - the only rules are two at a time, no flowers, sign in and out and then sanitise your hands pretty excessively. If you need anything, Ms Y/l/n’s nurse will be your first port of call.”
“Thanks for everything” Dom nodded in a gracious manner, which the doctor seemed to massively appreciate - apparently, for the job they do not receiving a hell of a lot of thanks.
“I’ll pop back in a little bit.”
And for a couple of hours everything everything felt like a bit of an anticlimax, nothing happened, not a lot changed. Just Tom and Dom sat next to Y/n’s bed in silence; Harrison and Nikki downstairs with the baby, till Dom got a phone call from Nikki asking them to meet at the neonatal unit  - which was limited by visitor numbers unlike the ICU. Thinking it’d be simple, the elder man gained Tom’s attention with a call of his name, explaining they should go down to meet up.
“I’m not going down there.”
“Son, I know you’re worried by Y/n isnt going anywhere right now. The doctors said they’d call you if anything happens.”
“It’s not-“ Tom stopped himself, biting his tongue and looking away from his Dad. “I just don’t want to go down there.” Slowly, Dom was more and more realising Tom’s thought process and honestly… it scared him. In the hopes this was just a big misunderstanding he offered a different option - hoping Tom would equally refuse that. Dom suggested going down to the cafe instead, which most unfortunately Tom agreed to. It wasn’t leaving Y/n that was the issue, it was being near the baby.
Tom’s daughter. Unnamed and apparently abondoned by both parents.
Anyhow, Dom resigned to playing into Tom’s choice, perhaps Nikki and Harrison would be able to swing him round, to see sense. It still took Tom getting the nurse to triple check they had his correct number on record , just in case, before Dom could tear him away from the bed. Fortunately the pair found a quiet and secluded corner table, where Tom was still yet to be recognised, while Nikki and Haz found them too.
What followed was Tom answering all his mum and Harrison’s questions about Y/n’s condition, in a blunt and emotionless manner - without Tom returning fire by asking any questions at all about his beautiful little baby girl. Eventually Nikki braved it, someone had to bring it up.
“Well it sounds like littles going to change for a while… maybe you should head home for a bit? You’ve been up half the night and you look shattered love. You don’t have to go back to yours… you could stay in your old room for a bit?” Tom being by himself at the moment sounded like the most incredibly stupid idea ever, Nikki was offering it as a choice - when in reality there was only one option.
“Maybe later this evening I will? Just don’t want to leave her alone yet.”
“It’s already 7 love, you’ve not eaten all day, you got to look after yourself too.” Harrison and Dom sat awkwardly while Nikki tried to delicately encourage Tom into what was the only sensible plan, watching him nurse the small hot choclate in both his palms. Time really had lost all meaning at this point, for him it felt both years since he’d first arrived with Y/n and at the same time barely 10 minutes ago. It felt weird.
“We can take shifts? If-if you want someone with her I mean… I don’t mind staying for a bit longer if it means you head back to your parents.” Harrison really truly didnt mind, in fact he sort of wanted to. He wanted to see Y/n’s face definitely alive, wanted to feel reassured by the monitors. Shockingly, Tom slowly nodded his head, surprising everyone with his lack of argument. None of them could work out whether it was a good thing him not putting up much arguement ; either he was heeding everyones advice of taking care of himself - or he had just given up. Harrison, as much as he didn’t want to, was favouring the latter.
“Okay” Nikki declared optimistically “So maybe you and Harrison go up so you can say good night to Y/n, then we can all go and pick up the baby?” She opened the plan to the floor, allowing for input but got nothing - except maybe Tom’s jaw unconsciously tensing uncomfortable at the latter part of her statement. Dom noticed.
Not one noticed but knew what it meant. His son blamed his granddaughter. His son, right now in that moment, hated the unnamed and totally helpless baby girl.
