What astonishes me about the use of the term "washerwoman" for Siuan to justify not telling her story is the underlying and unwarranted disdain there.

Beyond the fact that reducing her character post-stilling to a washerwoman makes as much sense as calling Lan a stable boy because he is around horses, I don't understand how anyone using the description of a character through the manual labor they sometimes do could justify making it an insult, even in the context of the universe, given that multiple characters are nicknamed after their job and everyone accepts it as affectionate: sheepherder, innkeeper's daughter, blacksmith, wisdom.

Somehow, the fact that the Amyrlin gets her hands dirty more often (and again she very much is not a "washerwoman", Min washes more clothes than she does. Stop parroting that), despite the fact she comes from humbler background than the EF5 and is proud of her roots, is seen as derogatory.

Even in the context of the show, Moiraine filling her own tub or Nynaeve cleaning the pool isn't depicted as demeaning but it would be for Siuan?

The reason why her storyline is problematic in the books isn't because she loses her rank, it's because Bryne treats her like his personal maid and obviously revels in the fact she was once the most powerful woman in the land and is bound to obey him now.

A dynamic that was obviously discarded the moment Siuan and Moiraine were revealed to be a thing, so I really don't know what they think they are saving her character from here.

Honestly? I can't hate Bloodborne fandom enough.

Bloodborne was my first Fromsoft game and one keeping me hostage in terms of fixation for over three years, like I said! And yes, it has incredibly bad, toxic people in it - Maria fans who kept slandering Gehrman despite all the info against their takes, honestly believed there is anything problematic with Gehrmaria, had mental breakdown if anyone dared to see Maria as bi or straight despite her not having canon sexuality, believed that the whole story is either about man bad woman good OR was incredibly misogynist, no between. Close minded, toxic people who would deliberately bait anger and pain with placing their hate in the tags and then play victims when those hurt fans snapped back. Oh, I hate them, and revealing that Gehrman's "creepiness" and "misogyny" was completely and fully translation mistake, as well as pointing out how comes why nothing is wrong with how Doll is dressed with facts, is forever my most valid contribution to the fandom. More so than my ugly childlike fanart or convoluted theories could ever be. But, not THIS is why Bloodborne fandom is worse in my opinion.

Elden Ring fandom introduced not one but SEVERAL annoying and exhausting topics to deal with! I "affectionately" titled especially rabid Malenia and Miquella fans 'Twin Cultists' because this is exactly what their behavior is and have always been! Funny enough, a person who got mad at me for this one was someone who got alienated on Discord server for Miquella fans because owners started to insist that only their headcanons are valid AND admitted to me on feeling unsafe for not shipping Finlenia. I am dead serious! Malenia fans are strikingly similar to Maria pseudofeminist fans in toxicity, Miquella fans are like if you removed all likeable traits of Leda and replaced them with even MORE of undying vitriol for anyone who dares to interpret him as anything but perfect pure radiant sunshine. Mohg triggered a pretty awful discourse between those who insisted he was rapist molester whatever and if you interpret it differently you are insensitive and media-illiterate victimblamer and people who defended him "becoming the very thing they sworn to destroy" as well as also exhibiting cult-like thought control in their circles (they know who they are -_-).

But the DLC has changed things a bit, right? Some Twin Cultists are still spilling vitriol, except now they also claim that writers are bad, not only fans that disagree with them! Still, blessed, deserved vindication finally arrived! But what about others, whose situation never changed? Vitriol towards Godrick is ABSURD. You know how common fandoms L is that they judge and hate female character for something, but when male character did the exact same thing it is humored or justified? Godrick is this, minus the gender difference, yet everyone who points out his actual characteristics and the hypocrisy of his haters gets ridiculed. You thought that his fans would flock together to support each others? No, turns out that pocket are loosers who think people who don't headcanon him as trans are childish and ridiculous and loathe cishet Elden Ring fans in general. Fia and D are caught in the weird discourse loop where one is always simplified and idealized and another is demonized to Hell and beyond, when they both are strongly caught in religious brainwashing of sorts but also are sympathetic in their own right. Ranni's fans and haters both do not know the term of Machiavellian (aka "Ends justify the means" philosophy). She is the worst most evil character in the setting over what crimes she committed in order to protect the world from the problem of potentially anyone being able to grab the laws of nature itself and shape them according to their bigotries and preferences, OR she is a perfect innocent fighter against oppression and people who dislike her Just Hate Women TM. And of course we cannot forget the one above them all! The radiant, omnipresent, eternal!...

Marika truly brings out the worst of discussions! She has been before SOTE, but you YEARN for pre-SOTE times if you hate OR love her! Not because things changed, but because now discussion can't be avoided. She is THE Elden Ring character who is only ever demonized and idealized. Before SOTE, she was only ever just a tyrant who loves genocide OR simply a puppet of Greater Will (or rather Two Fingers claiming to speak for it as it turned out) who never meant to do that shit and finally heroically rebelled. After SOTE... hahaha, oh boy... we started to deal with the issue of excusing genocide. Her fans will claim into essays and more essays why Hornsent are all fundamentally dangerous race and Marika is merely trying to rid the world of filth that ruins it by sending Messmer. However, demonization didn't quite go away either, and her haters are so angry at writers humanizing her a bit more that they say WRITERS are pro-fascist!

So, why? I've described such horrid discourse, when Bloodborne fandom sounds like it simply has a few bad apples in comparison! What can be worse than Elden Ring fandom, after a description like this? Yeah, you see... Elden Ring fandom is thorn by awful arguments and discourse, it is hostile and dangerous for your mental health if you are invested into fandom beyond just "consuming content" and advertising your art for sale. Yet, it lives. It lives in the same sense as a land torn by earthquakes lives. It lives in the same sense a volcano that won't stop smoking lives. It lives in the same sense sea lives during the storm. But it LIVES.

Bloodborne fandom is a fucking Caelid.

If you question whether I'd be scared of "drama", I assume you are new here and don't know my epic lore. I am not afraid of anything because society made itself clear on what I am for it. In the most condenced way possible, one OF those toxic Maria fans didn't like me thinking for myself too much so they went out of their way to slander me for various -ists and -phobias. Their ableist friend that doesn't take racism seriously joined in. I was a victim of stalking, harassment, slander, witch-hunting and cult-like shunning for over a year, and so was every kind fool who treated me like a human - friend or mutual. I can NOT speak of Bloodborne fandom experience from personal standpoint because obviously it is not an objective experience (though someone who also got unfairly slandered by Maria fans too contacted me, so I question whether it IS a trend..?). Still, it isn't about me or my friends, we are an oddity. Bloodborne fandom for me was just a bunch of gullible, weak sheep who are okay with witch-hunt because letting just a few people get harassed is not worth souring their fandom experience. And I do not wish to turn back or even try to mend anything. I caught my stalker and exposed their crimes, I made everyone who believed they were innocent feel stupid and ashamed, it was all I wanted. I don't wish to "befriend" the fandom afterwards.

And what truly soured Bloodborne fandom was actually happening afterwards, what was not involving me or any friend or enemy I knew. The worst thing happened, worse for fandom than any amount of discourse. I call it "centralization", for lack of better term.

Bloodborne is a niche fandom, yet it had a sudden zoomers burst. And that led to dynamics of "fandom leaders", and stupid fucking Discord community that are akin to elite club in which if you are not invited you might as well not exist. It ALL became about stupid "web of mutuals" nonsense. It ALL became about some cool kids deciding what will be the ship or the take of the week/month, and soon you'd see NOTHING but this thing posted. Always through the exact same lense, too. Only to then be forgotten, because it was just a trend. Rom x Caryll comes to mind as a FAD of similar vibe. Micolaurence too.

I just hate this. The fandom stopped LIVING. I saw genuinely absurd things happen! Like someone drawing Mariadeline, one of the most popular ships in the fandom, yet they get completely ignored because they've failed to grab a beer at the bar with "leaders" of this ship who "hold" the distribution of that approval and love. Even worse; over a year ago, a very talented, fun, energetic and creative fan of Mensis Trio and Byrgenwerth squad showed up! They were SPAMMING art and writing, and all of that was good! So good that..... all of that barely got over 20 notes, maybe 30. Why? Because, again, you can't just post about blorbos and expect to be liked and approached. You have to get on the "good side" of "holders" of love for characters like Micolash, Laurence and Rom, or else they'll just side-eye you! But imagine this with literally everything else. I have been watching it happen all the time, to people that were not even targets for cult-like shunning by Alfred, Eugene or Anna for associating with me. You keep to yourself, you are shy, you are not on Discord with them, your headcanons are a bit different? Too bad, you may rot, because it is not about you! People look up to a few popular artists with shallow takes and so much creative liberties they might as well make OCs to know whether this or that person should be liked and reblogged, instead of JUST liking and reblogging them!

THIS is why Bloodborne fandom is Caelid. Not for toxicity, but because it is rotten. It used to be far less "organized" when I joined in. There were no trends to define fandomry for next few weeks decided on a party where ignored creators were not invited to. There was not hegemony of certain ships, designs and headcanons. There was no "web of mutuals" and pressure to either assert yourself by the good side or vanish. Everyone were doing their things and coexisting, nobody could determine who flourishes and who rots, diversity of headcanons and interpretations were celebrated. Oh, what's a matter? You really dislike that popular artist who infantilizes Marika and stripes her out of any agency over her actions? Well, so do like 500000 other people! Every popular take is ALSO popular to hate on in Elden Ring fandom! But if you dislike a popular take in Bloodborne then sucks to be you, because diversity of interpretations, opinions, preferences and takes just doesn't exist in it. Not anymore. Unless you "asserted" your novel idea to the "court" on some stupid Discord server and was "approved", of course.

Look. Elden Ring discourse annoys me to no end. I always get my headcanons and interpretations "corrected" in the worst condescending fashion. My friend posted a very well made lore post and got harped on because his take contradicted someone's idol's headcanons (with that idol approving of that harping) and I am still mad. I don't want to post my GEQ takes to be reminded that "aktualy" she is Melina. I dislike seeing claims of Miquella's nonexistent character assassination or Radahn hated just because some sexist Redditors were using him as a mascot. Nonetheless, deep down, I am THANKFUL. Because even really annoying debates end up being entertaining. Because people here TALK about things, REVISIT things, ARGUE about things, CARE about things, HAVE OPINIONS on things. They will annoy you in the comments or reblogs, but they SPEAK to you. No take is so popular that it defines all art and fanfics because every popular take is also popular to hate on. Things are disorganized. No fandom leaders, no elite club ignored blog wasn't invited to, no "web of mutuals" that should get sucked into a vacuum cleaner and never be seen again. Elden Ring fandom is a battlefield, but also free market minus the money.

To be honest, Bloodborne fandom was done for me when based people started to vanish. Fishbowlcarnage deactivated everywhere, Cuddlefish mysteriously disappeared and I worry whether they are even alive to this day, user Molluscock got bullied away... It felt like a bad omen, it happened before my drama, and I've never seen users like this before. Except I have been, but they all are now ignored because of this stupid high school dynamic taking over. Had Elden Ring hyperfixation not happened, I'd probably just end up blocking many Bloodborne accounts and never care for trying to make connections again, just post art and vanish to draw the next one. I did end up blocking some Bloodborne mutuals, after all. After it hit me, what was bothering me so much. Appreciate Elden Ring fandom and it's earthquakes, because shaking earth can't be bigger evil than stagnation. Bloodborne fandom no longer breathes, they are champions of not feeding the sparkles that were meant to become fire hoping they die down, and I hate every looser that benefits from that "system". //Total Firey Island spoilers if you care about that kind of thing

TPOT 15 made me watch/rewatch Cary’s videos showing the Total Firey Island comics since they’re now canon to the timeline. It’s interesting to see how characterizations have changed over time. Especially Match.

Between her winning the spelling bee and her quickly finishing with ease a Sudoku book that Firey struggled with (the latter is not from TFI but from the first edition of the Firey comics), it seemed like Match was being characterized as a very smart character (at least when it comes to book smarts and logic games like Sudoku).

Also, in one of the planner comics uploaded to the Google Drive filled with pre-BFDI things created by the Huang twins, it said Match has an IQ of 145, higher than any of the other characters listed in that comic (Spongy, Rocky, Firey, and Pencil). (I know it’s problematic to assume that IQ says everything about a person’s intelligence due to how these tests often disadvantage neurodivergent people and other marginalized groups, as well as how scores fluctuate, but I’m pretty sure Michael and Cary weren’t aware of that when they made the comic and just used it to describe intelligence.)

But then fast forward to BFDI and iirc Match doesn’t show book smarts or logic skills anymore, or at least, not any more than the average person in the BFDI universe. She’s not on Snowball’s level, sure, but it’s not like she is known as or characterized as being very smart either. I wonder why this shift in Match’s characterization occurred. To be fair though, we haven’t seen all the pre-BFDI comics, so the answers may be in there.

Anyway some additional thoughts on the Pre-BFDI comics:

Match was my favorite character when watching Cary’s videos of the TFI comics. Smart, stood up to Snowball’s misogyny, tried to win over Ice Cube’s vote with kindness and patience as opposed to Snowball’s threats. The Announcer robbed her by misinterpreting Ice Cube.

The planner comics were just making fun of Spongy. Poor Spongy. It isn’t even just the other contestants, but also the creators of the show too.

If we’re meant to take TFI as canon, Firey and Coiny’s rivalry literally started because Coiny made a mistake and forgot that water could kill Firey. And then Firey held a grudge and Coiny held a grudge back and obsessed over Firey being eliminated. They’re so petty. /affectionate

Summary: you find a beautifull cat on your dorm one day and decide to adopt him until you find his owner, the thing is that the orange cat reminds you of someone.

A/N: i know many people don't like J.K Rowling and personally i don't like her either, i see her as a horrible person. I didn't buy the books, movies or games, but i like some of the characters and since i don't contribute to give her money with this, i will write a little about Harry Potter from time to time.

You arrived at your room after a long day of classes on Hogwarts, you lay on the bed finally without the uniform, just in your underwear. Finally some freedom, until you sense that someone is watching you. You opened your eyes to see an orange cat trying to climb on the edge of the bed. His eyes were fixated on you, it was strange but you helped him get on the bed and put him on your lap, starting to stroke slowly his fur. The cat seems to like it because he was stiring himself from all your legs with his tail wrapped around your tights.

After a couple of minutes you tried to remember if you saw that cat before, it sure doesn't belong to anyone from your house, but you still find his looks familiar and that is driving you crazy. At the end, you decided to keep until you find his owner, tomorrow you will start to ask.

It was already late so you put some cushions on the floor for the cat to sleep in but after you switch off the light, you noticed him getting into the bed. What a sociable and affectionate cat, you decide to leave it do what he wants and sleep.

The next morning the cat was around your waist, almost like it was hugging you, but that's not possible because it's a cat, not a person. Definitely, this cat is really strange.

The day passed and you aked a lot of people but you couldn't find the owner, that's when you encountered Ferd Weasley but without his twin, that is clearly strange.

"Hi, ginger, where's the other?"

"I can't find him, it's strange, yesterady he was doing potions on the bathroom, the ussual, and now i can't find him."

You couldn't help but laugh at the situation of George doing wrong a potion and having horrible second effects.

"What you are doing, anyway?"

"Asking if someone has a cat."

"Why?"

"Yesterday at night, one orange cat got into my room and i want to return it to his owner, it's a really strange cat really, it acts almost like a hu..."

While you were saying this you started to get a crazy theory and apparently Fred too. You two crossed looks and started to run to your dorm fast. Apparently Fred is incredible good at avoiding the security pass to the girl's room but that doesn't matter right now.

You two opened your bedroom door and find the cat ravaging your underwear drawer. When the cat saw Fred, started to run around the room trying to escape but after a couple of minutes you managed to catch it and you two put it on a box with locker.

"I don't know what was on his mind but i know that he didn't whant to transform into a cat."

"That's not the point, he was looking into my underwear."

"I am sure there has to be a valide answer to that."

"Then let's transform him back to normal."

After a couple of hours you have the potion that transforms him back to normal, naked. You close your eyes to not see it while he runs to put a cushion to cover the most problematic area.

"What were you thinking man?" asked his brother, "I know you like her but this is a little extreme don't you think?"

Did you hear right? George liked you, with all this chaos of the transformation you didn't stop for a moment to think why he was doing that, but Fred was right, it was a little extreme.

"It was not my intention, i was trying to get a potion to transform into another person and something went wrong end i ended up like that," he was really nervous and blusing a lot, "when i saw the opportunity i decided to try it and be close to her, i didn't intent to look like a perverted freak."

"Well you did," you said mad.

"Sorry, i... i am sorry, i understand if you don't want to see me again." you had to admit it was a really bizarre but he looked really cute all flustered with only that cushion.

"I will like to see you again, but only in human form please, the next time you want to spent time with me or ask me out, do it like normal people do," his face lightened up and a smile formed on his smile, "Now... GET OUT!"

Almost instantly the both started to run out of the dorm scared. You wanted to date George, but you have your right to be mad to him for today, tomorrow you will start liking him again.

no idea why my inbox didn't give me this notif until now, but now's a better time than any to talk more about this.

i'm chinese. i speak fluent mandarin chinese. i've consulted other native chinese speakers about this, both genshin players and unrelated. i play genshin with chinese audio and english subs specifically to catch and complain about inaccuracies. i'd reveal more information but then i think it'd be trivially easy to doxx me if one knew what they were looking for.

fundamentally, the issue of incest lies in physical reproduction, yet i find adoptive incestuous relationships discomforting all the same. it's why i didn't like or finish go ahead (以家人之名) because i felt that it laid too much into the siblings aspect for romantic relationships to be feasible, and it was super contradictory from the initial general message of the first bittersweet yet wholesome episode.

however, personally, i just don't think kaeya felt like a part of the family until crepus's death and he really reflected on crepus's actions towards him (hangout). and even after beginning to view crepus as a father figure, he wouldn't have so shallowly made the transition for diluc to be his brother by adoption and consequently changed his entire mind about the guy (which you can see with the way he chooses to refer to both men with different terms, one adoptive and familial, one very clearly 'sworn', very consistently throughout the whole game. if that ever changes in chinese, well, at least you can know that i'll make a post about it if i still care about genshin by then.)

the localization team does make plenty of serious mistakes, and it's of my opinion that as a result, it has very clearly skewed character relationships with those mistakes, (cynari and collei, eulamber, some npcs in liyue, sumeru) some from cultural differences, some just from lazy translation overall. there's layers of complexity in how chinese utilizes honorifics and affectionate terms, as well as contextual consideration between fiction and reality, and sometimes i feel like the english localization team just threw it all into google translate and called it a day.

i don't even ship kaeluc that much. i like to call it the secret third thing where they can't get off their asses to talk about anything ever so they exist in an undefined space and to have them return to any semblance of a healthy relationship, platonic, familial, or romantic, would require a novel's length worth of development that hoyoverse will probably never write, and so my brain has made up novels of all three kinds and more.

however, i also don't care about people who do ship kaeluc or treat any other fictional media in an incestuous or otherwise problematic manner, regardless of language or culture. this is because i operate on a "don't like, don't read, don't interact" mindset. it makes being in fandom more fun; you should try it.

my disappointment wasn't aimed at the fact that i think too little people ship kaeluc. it just sucks to see people claim that that's what's wrong with the fandom and spin this evil gross imagery around the ship over a misunderstanding, especially when that's not how i view it. it's also the only thing vehemently regularly repeated ('klcers dni') when there's so many other issues with the game and the fandom.

(off topic but what's the worst thing that'll happen if a kaeluc shipper likes your fan stuff. it's not like they come into your tumblr asks to bother you with an "oh btw you're wrong about how you enjoy this media and this is what's right"-- oh wait that's what's going on here right)

including the fact that people like you purposefully go around searching in the kaeluc tag (which you probably did, because nobody is scrolling that far back in my blog to find this one specific post to complain about) to police and pick fights with people over a stupid issue from 2020/2021. i guess tumblr isn't a safe place to talk about kaeluc either lmao.

some thoughts on shipping (with verneider analysis on the side)

a random personal rule that i have that when it comes to shipping is considering age, dynamic, time, and character. yes, this goes in order.

age = are they a pair of consenting adults? teens? are they at the very least close to age?

dynamic = what are their roles in a story? are they both currently in a work setting or in an educational institution?

time = how much time have they spent together in the story? how much time have they spent getting to know each other?

character = what are their characters like? what's their trope as a pair?

Let's take verneider, for example. I have a particular dislike about this ship for their mischaracterization as well as how they tend to be sexualized in some fan media. But I want to analyze them from a sort-of-objective lens; a means to connect their characters and see if they can work.

Vertin and Schneider are 16 and 18 respectively. They are relatively close to age.

They are characters who are actively employed, and independent of any oversight besides that. This makes their pairing work because there is this balance between them.

If they were, let's say, school students, the dynamic drastically changes. A sophomore and a senior/college freshman. That would create a dynamic imbalance and thus makes their pairing a bit weird. But that's not the case.

In the main story for R1999, they've only gotten to know each other for very little time in one day. They've mainly gotten to know each other through their direct interactions (which was also not that much mind you), and otherwise from information provided out of necessity of their jobs.

And their characters. Both of them are outwardly cold characters with a high passion towards their goals. With Vertin it's to grant freedom and a way out for everyone, and for Schneider it's to survive and guarantee her and her family's lives throughout struggle. They both care towards those around them but put little care for themselves since they're very closed off.

They're very parallel to each other because of those. When together we see that Vertin is very quiet and non-expressive while Schneider takes up most with her flirty and deceitful yet humble personality. When it comes to relationships, they're both very protective, but neither are ones to be incredibly obsessive.

The time is what gets me with their whole ship. They've barely known each other, but a lot of people are very hellbent on their pairing because of their generally heated and somewhat intimate interactions with each other.

Another point that gets me is how greatly mischaracterized both of them end up becoming. Vertin is not a cold-but-obsessive person and Schneider doesn't easily open up. Had they spent more time together, it could have worked so much better. They are in no way problematic, however.

Maintaining the idea that Vertin is stuck in her grief in losing Schneider greatly hurts her character since her whole story is built upon loss. Schneider is one of the many people she did lose in the course of her lifetime, but it can't exactly be treated as one that greatly traumatized Vertin. In comparison to Schneider and her friends in SPDM, the memory of the latter hurts her more.

At the same time, the idea of Schneider falling in love with Vertin so fast is also really iffy. She may be flirty and affectionate, sure, but she still doesn't entirely trust Vertin in the end. Her main goal has always been to survive with her family, and how could she put her entire trust in someone associated with an organization that left her family behind to struggle in poverty?

This is not to say that I hate them as a ship. I don't really mind nor judge when it comes to that. I want to point out that their characters tend to be greatly mischaracterized based on their personalities shown in the first two chapters.

Now that I've settled on this, this is why age, dynamic, time, and character are really important to me in shipping. All four of these make structure for a ship and establish how it can work. I can disregard at least one of these parts (time) when it comes to certain circumstances like crackships or rarepairs.

It's like how I have a polyship in R1999 that I really enjoy exploring the dynamic of despite none of these characters rarely ever spending time together in canon, much less with one of those characters.

Yet again, these are all personal points for me. So do whatever you like unless I catch word that the age gap or the dynamic is imbalanced.

For the character ask game can I pick toga :)

I'm gonna be very honest in these, and I might disappoint, but here it is-

My first impression - I started watching BNHA around 5 years ago? It's hard for me to remember what exactly was my first impression of Toga, but back then I really didn't care for her much. Honestly, I just found it quite problematic that the only main female villain in BNHA is an overly cute school girl who fits the "cute yandere" trop to a t when the rest of the male villains look a lot more serious and scary.

My impression now - Perfectly honest- I really only started paying attention to her because of Ochako. I was, and still am, a massive Ochako fan, and when I heard that she suddenly had a massive romantic and tragic battle and narrative with Toga after leaving the fandom for 3-4 years, I was immediately deadly curious. - Even with how much I resonate with her story and character, I generally have a big ick for blood as a whole (surprising for a very loud tgck fan I know). Right now, she's my poor desperate little baby who really really needs love and therapy (affectionate). I wish we got to see more of her regular girly side, like caring for the LOV especially Magne and Twice.

Favorite thing about that character - That her entire story is a mentally ill and queer narrative. Like I said earlier, I actually have a big ick for blood and the cutesy yandere trope. But the thing that gets me about Toga is that she is the most openly bisexual/pansexual character in the series, very clearly mentally struggling, and both thrives and suffers because of her choices and circumstances. - She's such a tragic and hopeful character that represents so many weird people like me that I can't help but be attached. She makes me want to embrace my more girly and selfish side, and screams at me that I should live my life how I want to. - I can't leave out Ochako from this part. Holy shit the themes and story about their relationship makes my heart both break and soar so bad it genuinely hurts. Save people by understanding them, helping them, listening to them. Show someone you can be selfish, that they deserve love, that she deserve a chance. It's so much it punches me to a million sobbing pieces.

Least favorite thing - For the 3rd time now...not into blood. I don't like its taste, look, and the mere thought of bleeding genuinely grosses me out. - You probably think "How in the world are you attached to her then?" well its because I understand that Toga's "blood" is also a representation of her violent tendencies and love. I see it much more as a narrative device for her character and themes.

Favorite line/scene - Shocking, but I actually have not read the manga. I can't say what my favorite scene is just yet because I want to truly witness it animated, when the time comes. - If you want an answer well, from the anime so far, it probably is when she gets her quirk awakening in MVA, or when she confesses to Izuku in the final war (mostly because that scene is so damn hilarious, tragic, and important).

Favorite interaction that character has with another - ...I mean obviously it's Ochako lmao? Every interaction is a fight of ideals and love- which suddenly morphs into a way of challenging each other- then growing into understanding and loving each other. That is. Just insane. How the fuck did BNHA's writers come up with this.

A character that I wish that character would interact with more - For the sake of my Tgck Bkdk square, I really wished for her to have interacted with Bakugou at least once. Just see how one person's violence and power was praised, while the other was abandoned and shamed. How they both have a strong squishy-faced freak they're obsessed with, and also obsessed with them, even if they don't feel like they deserve it. - Oh and, definitely more LOV random shenanigans and bonding time. I wish I was able to get more into them ngl, but I never really felt that sadly. Man...

Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character - UHHH??? I genuinely have no idea. I am drawing at a blank I am so sorry T__T This is the firsts time I have ever been interested in this kind of character??? Really sorry-

A headcanon about that character - This is kind dark so be warned - I got this idea from a fic and now I can't stop thinking about it. Toga always wanted her love to be reciprocated or understood by someone. Anyone. I feel that she was taken advantage of and abused by horrible people in her earlier days of running away...especially since she's a young teenage girl in a cute school uniform. I am so sorry...

A song that reminds of that character - I am working on a Togachako playlist! It's about both of their characters respectively and also their story and relationship, but here's the ones about Toga specifically! - Hayloft II (THIS ANIMATIC), The Red Means I Love You (obviously lol), Butcher Vanity, Hero (Charlie Puth, mostly tgck), Pink Pony Club (Chappell Roan, early Toga)

An unpopular opinion about that character - She's not the possessive type, and she's really very open to people she loves loving other people at the same time, polymarous kind. This is probably a pretty common hc already tho since she says this repeatedly? - Her most common form of love is a very impulsive/sexual/admiration/attracted kind. You could even relate this to hypersexuality (something I struggle with) where the moment you find something you're into on someone, you body and brain genuinely go kinda out of control. I project onto her my own inability to hold and control these kinds of feelings at times, but Toga is quite the manifestation of my fears.

Favorite picture - I love it when a character's mask peels off. Toga genuinely angry, upset, and just not smiling is so fascinating and beautiful to me in a "It's okay my dear, show all of you, stop hiding" (Ochako might disagree with me on this tho, since she loves her smile lmao-)

TUA and its inherent problem with bromance

I know this post won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I need to take it off my chest because it's been bothering me for a few days

Has anyone noticed which exactly are the existing bonds from the past seasons that were never addressed in the last one?

Let me mention them to you :

Now, why do I find this incredibly sad and slightly problematic? Because all of these bonds had very strong bromantic vibes (please let me emphasize this : I'm NOT talking about relationships or shipping, I'm strictly sticking to the definition of "an exceptionally tight, affectionate, male bonding relationship exceeding that of usual friendship") and none of them were even barely acknowledged.

All we got were Luther and Diego moments, cause they never really did have a strong bond, they are just a comic duo (which is to what they were both basically reduced to in this season), we had Allison and Klaus (safe cause girl/queer character), Allison and Lila (which came out of absolutely nowhere and while I thought it could be interesting, at not point was it explored) and Viktor and Ben (with Ben existing only to obsess over Jennifer, so another safe bet here).

Please feel free to disagree, but it really saddened me to see beautiful relationships between male characters, which bathed in this familial love and bond, being forgotten or shoved aside, only to concentrate on straight relationships with characters that we don't know (hi Jennifer, how I wish you were more than squid girl) or on cheating storylines (sorry Five and Lila, your story went in a way I could never be on board with).

At the time even the film's creators seemed nervous about what they had created. Like, when Diablo Cody in defending the film's same-sex kiss talked about her intense female friendships, how she "wanted to sleep at my friend's house every night, I wanted to wear her clothes, we would talk on the phone until our ears ached." Yeah Diablo, I had that with some of my guy friends as a teenager too, it was called being gay. The article that quote is from still finds the time to chide Cody for not doing good feminist representation, though, and I guess that makes me somewhat sympathetic to Cody here. Did she know that culture was in fact going to be too dumb to get the way Jennifer is both a predator and victim, the way her love for Needy is at turns beautiful and toxic, the way expressions of queer desire get warped into complicated, problematic forms by a diseased culture?

The film is full of uncomfortable joke/horror ambiguities, which were at least grasped by some critics (the film did have a number of favorable reviews, though they couldn't compete with the horrible marketing). As far as I can tell, the developing blogosphere, on the other hand, understood none of this from the moment they got their grubby cheeto dust covered fingers on the script before the film's release. Diablo Cody had amassed a considerable loud hatedom at that point, of both the aforementioned cheeto boys and their female counterparts,  going apoplectic over the "fantasy" that "Diablo Cody is a magical snowflake who can spray her unique pixie dust on an otherwise conventional script and give it indie cred". Perhaps the film's obsession with female relationships characterized by violence, jealousy, and crab bucket behavior cut too close to home for such critics?

Or maybe they just genuinely hate Diablo Cody's "twee dialogue". You hear about this? Yeah, Diablo Cody writes twee dialogue. This mantra seems completely unassailable now, basically accepted by even her defenders. What's so god damn twee about it though? To be sure, I remember mentally grouping Juno in with Napoleon Dynamite and Little Miss Sunshine. Jennifer's Body reveals just how much "twee" is a function of the film in its totality, though. I mean, I feel like this should be obvious but the exaggerated quippy dialogue comes across a little differently in the context of a film featuring sexual assault, people being burned to death, ritual murder, demonic possession, and teenagers being sadistically eaten alive.

In that context her dialogue comes across more like a nightmare funhouse mirror version of Joss Whedon's now eye-rollingly ubiquitous quips. Whedon and his bazillion interchangeable hack studio vat clones never aspired for much actual wit beyond the "umm well THAT just happened". Cody's dialogue on the other hand is baroque, in love with weird wordplay and uncouth associations. Needy refers to Jennifer affectionately as "Vagisil". Jennifer, in a line that caught me totally off guard midway through taking a big sip of water, jeers that Needy needs to "Move-on dot org". Yeah, no man, you're right. This isn't how "real" teenagers talk. Also, Jennifer's not "really" possessed by a demon, it's a thing we call "Movie Magic".

Though, actually, it's not totally unreal. This baroque, warping dialogue feels now like how teens trash talk under ideal conditions: on the internet. This movie's dialogue is posting. Like Homestuck, the point is not to capture a literal representation but instead a vibe of the kind of unrestrained, often vulgar and offensive dialogue of teens shit talking each other over America Online Instant Messanger or replies to their friends' Xanga posts. It makes perfect sense that both Jennifer and the various Homestuck teens would call each other retards, for example. There's a real sense in the film of characters pushing boundaries, testing the limits of their ability to perform adulthood. It's not just an act in the sense that it's a movie you plodding dullards, but in the sense that these characters are performing their idea of maturity.

There's nothing of that performance when Jennifer, in the back of a van going who knows where, sobering up and getting a grip on her real situation, asks the members of the band Low Shoulder, "Are you guys rapists?"

The climactic flashback, late in the film, when we witness the band's brutal murder of Jennifer, still has plenty of quips, of course. It's just that now Jennifer's ability to perform any kind of mature confidence has been brutally ripped away by a bunch of third rate emo douchebags. All the quipping, over top of her desperate pleading for her life, issues from the douchebags, who treat the whole scene as a joke. The affect of this scene feels complex to me. It's still Diablo Cody's script so there's some pretty good one liners. Megan Fox, though, is playing the scene for pure horror, so the humor adds to the horror for me. For these guys, rape and murder is just, like, kind of a fun night out. They can sing pop songs while ramming a bowie knife ("Bowie! Nice!") into a teenage girl's body because their biggest concern is whether or not they can get their shit band on Letterman. 

I think it's notable that for a solid number of people--particularly though by no means exclusively women--this scene is not damaged in its horror by this dissonance. At least not now. And why should it be? Horror has never just been about what's "scary" or worse about startling people with jump scares. Horror has always partaken of a complex mix of affects: fear and visceral startlement, yes, but also grief, shock, disgust, rage, contempt... attraction... humor. The best horror might fuck with the viewer's head, prompting arousal or humor simultaneous with disgust or fear. Why play these things off each other? Maybe to destabilize us. If we feel a moment during Jennifer's brutal murder where we're just a little bit charmed by these self admittedly cute boys, maybe that prompts a question like: what other monsters might be hiding behind charming façades?

The post-9/11 years and incipient Obama cultural revolution were unfortunately for Jennifer's Body a time for dumb affects. We pretended Rudy Giuliani hadn't spent several years turning NYC into a characterless, facile police state before bungling the 9/11 disaster response. Clear Channel, now the insipidly named "iHeartRadio," banned numerous songs for fear of causing even a shred of offense. The FCC got more censorious, waving its own dick around to far more culturally degenerate effect than any superbowl nip slips. Even researching this period is tedious: the articles I access are full of euphemistic phrases ("Mr. Bush was caught on videotape last July using a common vulgarity that the commission finds objectionable") so tortured they could have been dreamed up by the Bush admin's army of Eichmanns. I did discover that the maximum penalty for saying "fuck" went under Bush from a draconian $32,500 to a wild-eyed spittle-mouthed $325,000. People who objected to the dogshit state of culture and politics were drummed out of society, as The Dixie Chicks were. Or, more commonly, folks sorta slipped out of the public eye after getting played off at awards ceremonies, quietly shelved.

The primary objection to all this unfortunately did not come from anything really resembling a left but libertarians, constitutional bill of rights fetishists, and South Park. Democrats, never willing to lose an opportunity to supplicate themselves in spineless nematoad subservience to reactionary forces, attacked the Bush FCC for not fining stations MORE for Janet Jackson's sexual harassment by Justin Timberlake. Cool!

I wanted to talk about how this extended into the Obama years but here's the weird and ominous thing: a lot of the statistics and research material on the FCC's censorship actions just sorta stop in 2006. A lot of the relevant links from the FCC's own website are dead now. I doubt that means things improved under Obama. I mean, why should the FCC have stopped fining people for saying "dickhole"? It's not like any of the natsec state's border wars ceased, or the detaining of people without trial in the torture pits of Guantanamo, or the deportation of migrants, or the wiretapping of civilians. The prosecution of whistleblowers actually increased drastically under Obama, as did the lobbing of drones at wedding parties.

We bore this because Obama offered an alternative to divisiveness and the stale politics of the Bush era. We didn't have to tear down and dismantle what the Neoconservatives and Bible-brandishing Evangelical cultists had built through rancor and strife, we simply had to present a different way. A way that would unite the country. A way of hope. THROUGH THE TREEEES I WILL FIIIIIND YOU I WILL HEEEEAL THE RUINS LEFT INSIIIIIDE YOU

Now Needy's increasingly frantic sense that something is very wrong and all the memorial rallies and posters in the world can't fix it resonate pretty strongly with me. And, of course, after watching Low Shoulder brutally murder a teenage girl the whole grief and recovery (with a hit song!) thing feels like a cathartic confirmation of what I felt a lot during this period: that all sorts of cynical fucks were exploiting tragedy to their own ends. It never seemed to be quite the right time to bring up how cloying and often disturbingly fascistic a lot of the Strong In The Face Of Tragedy pop culture was. It was either offensive to the victims of terrorism, or offensive to Our Troops, or, extremely conveniently, before the critique even had a chance to be levied it was suddenly old hat: the Village Voice sneeringly dismisses this film's "routine “risky” digs at 9/11 kitsch". It was hard to tell Republicans to go lick a d*ckh*le when President Obama was wearing flag lapels and having grotesquely performative "beer summits" to bring together a completely innocent black college professor with the racist pig that arrested him. You wanna talk kitsch? Obama was so fucking kitsch, homeskillet. Kitsch and twee to a degree no Diablo Cody dialogue could ever sink.

Here's something that's not kitsch or twee: Needy finding the sacrificial knife that stole her friend/love interest, and using it and inherited succubus powers to murder the shit out of every member of Low Shoulder. That's cathartic as hell. I said earlier that no one in this film really deserves what happens to them. Low Shoulder are the exception, and it's so satisfying to see that knife buried to the hilt in the lead singer's shitty torso.

i'm fine with the bt scene being what it was because it showed what is. a shallow superficial relationship that is not being written as endgame so I'm fine with them not having a more emotional connection make it more obvious its BONES in s8.

Okay, I'm gonna say this and I need everyone to know I genuinely mean it, I'm not fine with it. I am tired of the show giving Buck and Eddie love interests that exist to have no agency besides girlfriend/boyfriend or plot device for an exposition dump. I desperately wanted to care about bt. Buck being bi is such incredible representation and I spent the whole season waiting to be convinced I should like T and bt together for anything beyond the fact that they are a queer relationship but I keep coming up empty-handed. I like being a hater right now because no criticism of him is allowed without someone screaming that you're homophobic or hate gay people and that everyone in the show is problematic why doesn't he get a pass too so I am grabbing on to every wrong thing about him the same way people are blowing the good things to justify my aversion to him. But the thing is, T is a character who's being written in a way that is so hard to sympathize with when it comes to Buck. He has this shell that makes him rigid and he has this dry sense of humor and he could be interesting if he was willing to bend a little bit for Buck. That relationship was not something I could get behind when T left Buck on the curb, because while I do believe T was incredibly justified in not liking the situation Buck put them in, he could've communicated that better before he was literally in the car leaving Buck behind, so there Buck was once again in a relationship with someone who left him because they can't handle who he is. That was the impression I got from that first date and I keep waiting for them to be cute for me to move past it and the show is giving me nothing. Why did they make the choice to not let T dress up for the bachelor party and indulge Buck when the job by definition requires for him to change into a uniform so he could've put in some effort? Why did he let Buck walk around with his face covered in soot when they could've shown us a shot of him cleaning Buck's face before they walked into the room holding hands and give the impression that there's more going on there than a few makeout sessions? Why weren't they affectionate at the ceremony? Why wasn't that conversation in the hospital, where it would've shown a level of care and that joke could've been seen as an attempt to make Buck feel better about what was going on? Why are they always two steps to the left of being cute or having any fighting chance? And that's ignoring how intertwined Eddie is with the beginning of their relationship because that's just disturbing. The triangle thing is annoying as fuck if Eddie was not gonna get confirmed as queer and the sides wouldn't actually connect.

I think narratively Buck and Eddie getting together is the thing that makes the most sense for both of their characters, but if that's not gonna happen, I wanna care about the people they're with. I love Buck as a character, I want him to have a nice love story if for whatever reason we are not getting buddie because love is the thing he's been searching for, and whatever bt has going is not it. And the thing that's killing me is that it could be. It's the same thing they did with Taylor because if Taylor was as intense about Buck as she is about the job, they could work, but the show made a choice to use the development of her character to stir away from Buck. And T, he's just there. And it's frustrating. I don't even wanna get into the comparisons between buddie and bt because imma be honest I'm still processing the way the show had T refusing to dress on theme and then had Eddie suggest matching outfits in the next scene, what even was that?? But the way the show constantly takes the chances they have to give depth to their relationship, looks it in the eye, and runs the other direction it's just........... yk? This is Buck's fifth relationship and I can't for the life of me look at it and see where it's going because they are making it seem like it's going nowhere. T parallels Taylor all the time visually, when it comes to screentime he's just a step above Ali, he's nowhere near as developed as Taylor was at this point. I had hopes for that scene when they started to talk about parents, for 20 seconds, I believed they were gonna give emotional depth to them, but they didn't. And I was literally sitting here begging them to give me something to care about when it comes to them if they are gonna keep them together but I have nothing to show for it and I hate it. There's no emotional connection, they will probably breakup at some point during s8 and I'm just gonna be there "oh wow another failed romance what a surprise" while they keep playing up Buck and Eddie's partnership and not letting them go all the way, and it's just tiring.

And this is ignoring the way we keep getting yelled at for not resonating with them. I sincerely don't want to hate them but I can't find a reason to care about them.

Thank you for taking the time to answer that! But it got me thinking about another topic since you also mentioned it, the whole cheerleader comment moment. On tiktok (cause, of course) people tend to act like he's a full on pedo (I've seen people saying yeah I wouldn't leave my drink with Dean since he likes underage girls) and on the other hand we have people saying that's not Dean, that's just the writers. I wanted to know your thoughts on that whole moment, how much it is just writers, how much of it is just Dean™, and whether if that's supposed to imply he's a pedo or smth. Cause the show overall has issues and it sometimes bleeds into the characters and makes it hard to distinguish the two imo. (Sorry for asking too many questions, but I just really like your takes on him and wanted to know what you think :])

Our society prioritizes youthful beauty, particularly that associated with female youth.

It is not uncommon or unusual for a man who is attracted to women to find teenage girls attractive, or for a man who is attracted to men to find teenage boys attractive. (Not excluding women who find women attractive from this, but just staying on target with Dean.) Finding the aesthetic qualities of youth attractive does not equal being sexually attracted to children. Pedophilia is a specific thing, a specific sort of taboo line crossing, that I really wish we could stop conflating with the fact that our culture idolizes youthfulness.

A pedophile is someone who is sexually attracted to children because they are children. It is not someone who just finds all the physical characteristics that come with that first full bloom of sexual maturity (which does not always line up with legality for very good reasons) to be attractive.

Dean gleefully pointing out to Sam in After School Special (4x13) that he'd found out that some of the cheerleaders were legal, DOES NOT mean that he was a pedophile, it's kinda actually means the opposite. Also, there is no such thing as "barely legal." Someone is either of the legal age of consent or they are not, there is no real grey area there. Now, it is true that the legal age of consent in a lot of states is lower than 18 (which is fucking problematic) but the show operates on the assumption that "legal" = 18, as most shows do. So essentially, what Dean was excited about was that some of the cheerleaders were 18, which makes them technically fair game. This expressly means that Dean respects that there is an age threshold, which pretty clearly indicates that he is not a pedophile.

I like to think that we as a society have gotten better about toning down the whole fixation on youthful beauty thing, but tbh I don't look at magazines anymore and am really good at tuning out advertising in general, so I don't know. But I do know that through most of my life the vast majority of models were essentially teenagers and many, many actresses found it harder and harder to get cast as they aged up out of that insane ideal range. I do also know that there are A LOT of porn videos that play on the whole teenage but technically legal aspect. It was (is?) a legit problem. So it is really hard for me to crucify a generally horny guy like Dean from lusting over older teens that he is clearly putting in the effort to check to make sure they are at least old enough to consent. Add to that the fact that Dean was also shown to be very open to older women's advances and I think he fell squarely into a pretty normal range of reactions, you know, for a guy who was a bit of a dirtbag (affectionate).
