#NowOnView… Eldzier Cortor’s scene of a devastating flood caused by the construction of a hydroelectric dam in Kentucky is part of our newest collection highlight in the American Art galleries, entitled Changing Landscapes.

Together with 15 additional artworks from our American and Contemporary collection, including Alexis Rockman’s “Mazaruni River” which has never-before been on display, this series takes an ecocritical look at our relationship with the natural world that spans depictions of labor, leisure, industrialization, and more.

Paul Guiragossian (1926-1993) 18"x26", watercolor on paper. By the mid 1960s Guiragossian had grown to become one of the most celebrated artists in Lebanon and eventually of the Arab world and even though war broke out in the early 1970s, his attachment to Lebanon grew bigger and his works became more colorful with messages of hope for his people. For this unique artwork we used Larson Juhl "Andover" moulding , Silk matboard by Bainbridge and Museum glass by TruVue. Custom framing is much more than four pieces of wood surrounding a piece of artwork. Now On View in our European Art gallery: Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun

This recently acquired portrait by Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun—a celebrated and successful woman in the male-dominated late eighteenth-century art world—is now on view at the Brooklyn Museum. After the Revolution in 1789 Vigée Le Brun left France for twelve years, supporting herself through commissions like this vivid portrait of Countess Maria Theresia Czernin that she painted while living in Vienna. The Countess, who may have wanted to emphasize her interest in classical scholarship, is shown holding open a well-known book about ancient Greece. ⁠⁠
