Xichen had smiled and said there was no reason to rush, and that had given Lan Wangji all the information he’d needed. 

“Mn,” Lan Wangji confirms, threading his fingers through Wei Ying’s still sweat dampened hair, “they have been placing bets for a very long time, my brother and your sister included.” The laughter that comes is expected, but it still warms Lan Wangji’s chest all the same, a warmth that spreads as Wei Ying’s hand settles onto his cheek. Lan Wangji doesn’t shy away from pressing a kiss to his palm.

“Don’t you think we should tell them we’ve been doing this for the last three months?” Lan Wangji’s side goes cold as Wei Ying stands on his knees, his hands trailing over Lan Wangji’s body until Wei Ying is kneeling between his legs and Lan Wangji feels his ears burn bright and hot.

“No.” Lan Wangji decides quickly, forcing himself to lay back on the pillows so he won’t have to look at Wei Ying. “It is still Jiang Wanyin’s month, we should wait until next month, at least.”

Next month would belong to Nie Huaisang, but Lan Wangji would sooner hand him the victory than give it to Jiang Wanyin.

There’s silence surrounding them one minute, and Wei Ying’s laughter wrapping around him like a blanket the next, both of his hands on Lan Wangji’s knees as he tilts forward, loosened hair hanging over his face like a curtain that Lan Wangji desperately wants to part. 

“My good Lan Zhan is really so mean!” Wei Ying laughs, a grin stretching across his face and then he’s crawling forward on his hands again, letting his lips brush against Lan Wangji’s while he continues, “But this one can wait one more month if it pleases you.”

A smile pulls at the corners of Lan Wangji’s own lips, “It does.”
