Today’s T-shirt.
May the circle of peace grow! Today is #NagasakiDay and it’s been 79 years since the atomic bombing of Nagasaki.
The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons entered into force on January 22nd 2021. Still, only five European countries have joined since September 20th 2017 and this is disgraceful. Thank you to Austria, The Holy See, Malta, Ireland and San Marino for leading the way. I call upon Ulf Kristersson to get Sweden to join and Linköpings kommun to take the ICAN Cities Appeal!

Safety for the Future.
It is often said that the future depends on what we do/advocate for today. And we believe that if each person makes an effort in every little way to make the world a better place, the future will definitely be a safer place too.
Many young people still carry around small weapons and can use them when triggered. This shows the need to tighten control arms policies.
Though control arms advocates would argue that the only purpose of #Nuclear Weapons is to deter a #Nuclear attack on one's territory, the fear of them being used causes emotional insecure. For example, the fear of Russia fulfilling their threat of using nuclear weapons on Ukraine has clipped the wings of intervention in the war leaving the rate of victims on the rise. The acquisition of these weapons clearly doesn't only keep lives at risk but keeps people in constant fear of the unknown.
Though my country #Cameroon is not among the countries highly securing nuclear weapons, there is a need to discuss its deplorable effects to determine them from seeing need in such a Peace threatening course even in the years ahead, and my team and I are devoted to this route to secure a safe future for the world, Africa and Cameroon.

Fukushima: Contaminated water could damage human DNA !
Contaminated water from Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant contains a radioactive substance that has the potential to damage human DNA, a report by Greenpeace says.
The claim from the environmental campaign group follows media reports suggesting the government plans to release the water into the ocean.
Many scientists say the risk is low but some environmentalists oppose the idea.
The government has not yet responded to the Greenpeace report.
For years Japan has debated over what to do with the more than a million tonnes of water used to cool the power station, which went into meltdown in 2011 after being hit by a massive tsunami.
Space to store the liquid - which includes groundwater and rain that seeps daily into the plant - will fill up by 2022.
The government says most of the radioactive isotopes have been removed using a complex filtration process but one isotope, tritium, cannot be removed.
Japanese media reported that the government had decided to start releasing the water into the sea from 2022. Under the reported plans, the water would be diluted inside the plant first in a process that would take several decades.
In its report Stemming the tide 2020: The reality of the Fukushima radioactive water crisis released on Friday, Greenpeace claimed the contaminated water contained "dangerous levels of carbon-14", a radioactive substance that it says has the "potential to damage human DNA".
The group accused the government of suggesting the water was "treated" giving the impression it "only contains tritium".
Environmental groups have long expressed their opposition to releasing the water into the ocean. And fishing groups have argued against it, saying consumers will refuse to buy produce from the region.

Denuclearization
Here’s a very minor political stance with major repercussions. We all know that nukes are destructive, but I don’t think any of us clearly know just how bad as the only nukes we have seen do damage happened 60 years ago. This video (https://youtu.be/5iPH-br_eJQ) shows just how dAmaging they are and why we shouldn’t want any of them to exist. I know we can’t do much, but chemical warfare was banned before. Why not get these as well. If you’re interested in showing your support go to http://www.notonukes.com it’s a website by the international Red Cross to throw your support behind a group so that we actually have some influence.

Motivation to attend the G7 Youth Summit in Hiroshima.
Through volunteering with the Youthfortpnw and Cameroon Youths and Students Forum for Peace (CAMYOSFOP), I do a lot of control arms and nuclear disarmament advocacy and sensitization working with the communication departments. I covered communication for an ICAN funded project aimed at tracing the path for Cameroon's participation at #MSP1 and fast-tracking the ratification of TPNW by Cameroon. Through which I engaged local newspapers, radio and television stations to intensify the advocacy and even produced a newsletter for this course while running social media campaigns. As a Communications Coordinator with the Youthfortpnw I oversee nuclear disarmament communication while running the social media. Late November, early December 2022, I used Youthfortpnw plateform to join UN Women's 16days of activism to end all forms of violence against women and girls. My interest being to illustrate how nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation, contribute to eliminating GBV and achieving a more secure, peaceful, and sustainable world for everyone. My academic expertise lies in International Cooperation for Development, Humanitarian action and Sustainable Development with a Bachelor's Science in Journalism. As an African from Cameroon working with Youth for TPNW, each time I introduce myself to someone and mention this aspect of my bio, many at times I receive lazy questions such as: “...but Africa is a Nuclear-weapon-free-zone so why even bother joining such debates?” My home Country Cameroon hasn't ratified this treaty, and recently I made a Facebook post celebrating the 2nd anniversary of entry into force of the TPNW while recalling that Cameroon still hasn’t participated yet. It is worthy of note that I deemed my post as a celebration of a milestone in nuclear disarmament - then I got this reaction which reads; " why should Cameroon ratify it? Does Cameroon have nuclear weapons or anything close to that? nuclear powers who are threatening to use weapons that on a daily basis – so why not write to them first? Cameroon should rather focus on fighting the nuclear power of corruption..."  Although Cameroon has not yet signed or ratified the TPNW, it has promoted universal adherence to the treaty, including by voting in favor of a UN General Assembly resolution in 2018 that called upon “all states that have not yet done so to sign, ratify, accept, approve, or accede to the treaty at the earliest possible date”.Furthermore, in 2016, Cameroon voted in the First Committee of the UN General Assembly to adopt a resolution that ultimately established the mandate for states to commence the historic negotiations in 2017 on “a legally binding instrument to prohibit nuclear weapons, leading towards their total elimination”. Prior to the adoption of the TPNW in 2017, nuclear weapons were the only weapons of mass destruction not subject to a comprehensive, globally applicable treaty prohibition. Cameroon supported calls on the UN General Assembly to fill this “legal gap”. It is against this backdrop that I am currently writing an informative article under the supervision of Dr. Becky Alexis-Martin I am currently writing an informative article to be published on the Youthfortpnw website entitle: African and the Nuclear debate: Challenges and Prospects. Here, I wll be examining what assessment can be made of African countries signatory to the Nuclear ban Treaty? From which I hypothesized: The near exponential development of crises in Africa that strain already limited attention and resources limits it giving attention to nuclear debate yet suffer humanitarian and environmental consequences of the use and existence of these weapons. I am aware that nuclear weapons pose a threat to our generation and our children. As the world’s population grows, the need to achieve social justice grows by the second! My goal is to blend my creativity and experience to grow in the disarmament and non-proliferation field. To use my academic knowledge, strengths and skills to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and all forms of weaponries. If chosen to attend the G7 Youth Summit where I will be listening to survivors, learning from Experts while visiting the Hiroshima Peace Museum and networking with like minds, this will be an uplift to my career and advocacy journey.
