1962 Ferrari 330 LM / 250 GTO by Scaglietti
With just 36 in existence, the 250 GTO is a coveted motorcar. However, this example is even more special, thanks to its 4.0-liter engine.
It's the only example initially fitted with the larger displacement motor, unlike the 3.0-liter found in the other cars. However, the original engine made way for a 3.0-liter Colombo V12, which remains under the hood today.
This car placed second overall in the 1962 Nurburgring 1000km race, and competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the same year, surviving 56 laps before a crash ended the car's race.

Porsche 550A Spyder, 1956. The 550 was a mid-engined race car produced by Porsche between 1953 and 1958 though only 90 were made. It was an incredibly successful racing car, winning the Nurburgring Eifel Race in May 1953 on it's first outing, and going on to win its class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Mille Miglia  and the Carrera Panamericana.

Some facts and stories about Roland Ratzenberger
Tumblr media
• When he was seven years old his grandmother took him to a local hill climb race at Gaisberg.
• His first word was 'car'
• He was nine years old when year the family home the Salzburg ring opened. He was get through the gates to go watch the cars drive.
• He had a poster of Jochen Rindt on his wall as a kid.
• When he started karting at sixteen years old he had to get a secondary job at a bakery to fund it.
• In the winter of 1991 he married the former partner of another driver, becoming the stepfather of her son, however they were divorced in early 1992.
• While in the UK, he briefly gained some fame for having a similar name to the TV puppet 'Roland Rat'. ITV invited film to film a segment with the puppet for national breakfast television. He raced against the rat (who was in a car dubbed 'Ratmobile') the Rat Puppet ended up winning the race down to cheating.
• F1 author David Tremayne son's who was three years old insisted on calling Roland Ratzenburg-and-chips-and-beans to his face. Roland found it hilarious and became that young boy's hero.
• Described as 'gentle, always unfailingly polite, tall, good-looking, and with a ready smile'
• Journalist Adam Cooper went out drinking with Roland in Japan and at the end of the night they had decided he should come stay in Japan for a year or two to cover the local racing scene. When he turned up and realised the hotel was more expensive than he had planned Roland let him stay in the spare twin bed he had in his room. He was happy to have company.
• One of his unusual goals was to try to enjoy female company in the team motorhome between stints in 24 hour races. Adam Cooper reccounts ' I think the last time we discussed it he’d managed the feat twice at Le Mans, and once at the Nurburgring.'
• One time he used his deep Austrain accent to record a Terminator style 'I'll be back' answer machine message for rival Jeff Krosnoff
• He kept a black book full of 'ladies' numbers
• One time his friend Anthony Reid had an accident in a F3000 race, and had a lot of blood streaming down his face. Roland had to take charge of the scene as the marshals freaked out. He made sure his journalist friend wrote about the shortcomings of safety in a Japanese magazine afterwards.
• At a Formula Ford festival his team either ran out of funds or walked out and Roland was left with just his car and a toolbox. Because he was so well liked mechanics and personnel from other teams helped him prepare his car. He won that festival.
• On one occasion, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Ratzenberger entered a nightclub. There was a confrontation between Frentzen and another guy which saw a knife pulled on either Frentzen or a random female bystander. Either way, Ratzenberger selflessly stepped in and wrestled the knife away from the man.
• A documentary has been put out on YouTube about Roland by Levay film production, detailing all about his life. A recommended watch.
• Bernie Ecclestone personally delivered the confirmation of Ratzenburg's death to the Simtek team
• Ayton Senna commandeered an offical car to hurry to the medical center where he learnt of Roland's fate from his friend, Dr Sid Watkins
• Only five drivers attended his funeral

There was a lot of talk about Max not winning the last race and Red Bull clearly had many issues all throughout practice but with all the pressure he still managed to come through and take the pole and the win. On top of that he also won the 24 hour Nurburgring sim race with Team Redline AND matched Senna's records for the most amount of consecutive pole positions (and Prost's record for consecutive poles to start a season). Absolutely outstanding on a weekend when it looked like Red Bull was struggling. He makes such a difference, especially when it counts. .
Best of all he looked so incredibly happy today before the race. He was so smiley and relaxed and it was lovely to see some of the other drivers take the time to talk to him about his sim race and take an interest in what he is doing. It's great to see him enjoying what he is doing and for people to give him recognition for what an amazing talent he truly is.

Another file time, and it’s a few day old one!
My cold has officially faded away. I have yet to check on my little lady at the moment to see her BPM, but in this file, I recorded with my phone again so you can hear her better and more clarified as she was quicker. I’m curious to know her BPM! Although judging by my previous recording with my stemo, I’d say she’s definitely around 90–100 BPM somewhere after seeing her just stay there. Ah, poor thing. She worked hard! Now no more heart palpitations so I assume she’s back down to her normal resting rate around in the high 60s-high 70s. Fascinating! I love it. It’s so interesting! 🫀
Also my apologies for not recording my little lady’s reaction to watching 6 hours of Spa the other day. I totally forgot but on top of that anyway, there was quite the amount of yellow flags and safety cars. About over an hour and a half left, a massive incident happened between a Cadillac and a BMW so that resulted in a very long red flag that actually went right to the end of the race, but low and behold, the race director that WEC has is amazing! Him and the rest agreed to adding what we’ve lost from being under a red flag so the race was continued in overtime! So technically in a timed scenario the race was under 8 hours long in total because of the overtime. The race stopped for over an hour and a half, but it was only fair to everyone including the fans that the race had to be extended. It was awesome! That also gave a Porsche 1-2 finish! Jota won for the first time as a privateer team and Porsche Penske #6 got a P2 podium finish! Unfortunately for my #5 car they did not finish due to making a mistake on the curb at Blanchimont. The car lost it and slammed against the wall, causing the hybrid safetysystem to go off and essentially refuse to restart the car which ended their race sadly. I was waiting for my favourite driver to get in the car since it wasn’t his time yet but there’s always next race! Anyway haha. My brain just forgot about recoding my little lady! Next time! Actually, for the Detroit GP and 24 hours of Nurburgring. After that, I have to make sure I have enough recordings all done and edited before I leave for my trip to Ontario :)

FP1:
Nearly everyone took a trip to the gravel or grass or hit the kerbs
Brief red flag when Alex's car spontaneously stopped working
Ollie Bearman drove for Haas and did a great job
Bryan Bozzi made his debut as Charles's race engineer
P1: LEC | P2: RUS | P3: SAI
Tumblr media
FP2:
More lawnmowing
Max still unhappy with his car
Both Williams cars taken apart during the first half of FP2
Some minor griping on the radio, but overall a pretty straightforward session
In the end the "Italians" were at the top: Yuki (adopted home country - lives 10 km from the track), 3/16 Italian Oscar, and Italian-citizenship-when-? The King of Imola: Charles Leclerc
Tumblr media
P1: LEC | P2: PIA | P3: TSU
Tumblr media
FP3:
Two red flags: first Fernando Alonso crashed into the barrier. Driver okay, back end of the car not so much.
Second red flag was Perez with a minor crash that messed up his front wing. It was cleared and the session was resumed with only a few minutes to go.
This led to some crazy driving as drivers were rushing to make it to the line to still put in a quali sim lap. It got a little hairy for PIA and MAG , and LEC made it seem like he was racing for a win.
In the end only Norris was able to still put in a lap and went to the top of the times table.
P1: NOR | P2: PIA | P3: SAI
Tumblr media
Quali:
ALO almost binned it again in his barely-fixed-on-time car and ended up placing P20 before SAR had a laptime deleted.
HUL surprised everyone by going to the top of the list (until Max came along - whi as it later turned out had given Nico a tow)
And Oscar impeded K-Mag which led to another trip to the stewarts for Kevin, but this time the penalty went to Oscar.
Another surprise when Checo landed at P11 in Q2 with Hulk and both RBs making it through.
In Q3 HUL returned the favor to VER by giving him a tow that led to Max getting a top speed 10 kph higher than the rest of the field and putting in a monster quali lap, improving his own P1 time.
Oscar put his McLaren in P2, but after a 3-place grid penalty, he will start P5 with the 2 Ferraris on the row in front of him
Yuki got his highest quali result ever: P7
P1: VER | P2: PIA | P3: NOR
Tumblr media
Petit's Race Notes:
Overall pretty uneventful: no crashes, no safety cars, not even any beef between Oscar and Carlos!
ALO started from the pitlane after late setup changes.
Alex picked up a penalty for an unsafe release, after his front right tyre was not properly attached at a pit stop. He limped around the track, and made it back out after another pit stop, but ultimately retired as the only DNF of the race
Alonso's brakes were on fire as he left the pit lane. He eventually also retired towards the end of the race, but was still classified as P19.
Perez and Hamilton both had little excursions in the gravel.
Max was shown a flag for track limits and struggled with his tyres towards the end.
For a bit it looked like Charles would overtake Lando, but in the end Norris walked away from LEC and caught up to Max.
Perhaps with 1 or 2 more laps, NOR could have passed VER, but in the end we had an exciting few laps and professional sim racer Verstappen took another win after already putting in a stint in the Virtual Nurburgring 24 Hours, which his team ended up winning as well.
Top 3: P1: VER | P2: NOR | P3: LEC
Fastest lap: George Russell
Driver of the Day: Lando Norris
Fastest pit stop: Red Bull/Sergio Perez (2:09)
