The Hunt for Red Emrys by darkbluedark

King Arthur sets out to keep his promise to the spirit of the Druid boy by repealing his father's ban on magic. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done, for reasons including but not limited to the following:

(1) He can't change the law until he understands magic better, but no sorcerer is willing to explain magic to him until he changes the law;

(2) The sorcerers all have some strange obsession with Merlin, which is awakening all sorts of feelings in Arthur that he really doesn't fancy examining too closely;

(3) He is starting to feel like the butt of some Druid-population-wide inside joke involving the mysterious phenomenon called Emrys; and

(4) Oh yeah, Morgana is still trying to kill him.

Thus he embarks on a journey of discovery, diplomacy, accountability, and self-improvement, and maybe even falls in love along the way.

(This would be a lot easier if their captives weren’t convinced everyone they talk to is dead. It would also be easier if they didn’t spend half their bloody time bickering.)

In Endgame, we saw Steve and Tony go back to 1970 to collect the tesseract and more Pym particles. Tony has a nice moment with his dad, they break into SHIELD/Camp Lehigh in Wheaton, NJ, and they manage to collect said tesseract and a few vials of Pym particles. Then the scene changes and they move on to the next thing. What they didn’t show us in Endgame is that Hank Pym had not yet perfected his Pym particles, and when Steve and Tony try to get back to 2023, it doesn’t work. And they’re trapped in the 70s.

1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?) Oh, that is so hard. I've been a fic writer for over 25 years, so I have thousands of fics. I think I'd recommend either Five People Who Never Died (And One Who Did) (CSI: NY, Canon divergence regarding character deaths), my All Of Time And Space series (Wholock - Sherlock/Doctor Who, main pairing is Pondlock aka Sherlock Holmes/Amy Pond, episode rewrites merging both canon universes + kidfic where Sherlock is Amy's babysitter as a kid), The One I'm Most Proud Of (Bleach, gen Ukitake & Hitsugaya), Side Trip (BtVS/Queen of the Damned movie, gen Spike & Jesse, side Spuffy and Lestat/Jesse), love is a battle, love is a war (Sherlock, Sherlolly, fantasy AU), yet our roots remain as one (MCU, rewrite of a "Thor: The Dark World" character death, start of a MCU/Sherlock crossover series which I also recommend but if you only read one, read this and the direct sequel), traces and whispers and guilt held too tightly (Star Trek AOS, Spock & Amanda Grayson, post-2009 ST, dream stuff), The Art Of Love Is Largely The Art Of Persistence (Sherlock alternate series 5, set in San Diego County - Sherlolly...my longest fic and my personal favorite fic ever written) and all of the fic in this tag and this tag (all of the friendship/relationship Leonard McCoy/Molly Hooper fics I have written...I created this ship with my friend in RP and I'm the biggest shipper of this ship, dammit).

Sorry there's so much but like I said...I've been writing for 25 years, I have evolved so much over the years style and fandom wise.

9. How do you find new fic to read? I follow a few AO3 bot blogs, some rec blogs, and a ton of fic writers. I also love reading stuff people recommend to me from fandoms I may or may not be in...as long as I have a passing familiarity with the fandom I'll read it.

16. What’s an AU you would love to read (or have read and loved)? Oooh! I have an answer for this that I have read! My friend @dreaminonao3 has a few fics started that are modern-era Pride & Prejudice (2005) reimaginings with Caroline, Mary and Kitty paired off with her amazing OMCs Thurston, Leland and Gabe, respectively. I also really enjoy her modern au!Penthony (Anthony/Penelope) fics for the Bridgerton fandom and her rewrite of MCU canon where Steve wasn't from the 40s but he was actually a Templar Knight (I am also the inspiration for her popular fic enabler fic, so yeah...I'm her biggest fan).

48. What’s the last fic you read? Do you recommend it? The last fic I read was a Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries ficlet called Vows that I do highly recommend (married!Phrack, sickfic)

Sad that there is such a finite number of moments that Eve and Villanelle got to spend together and now there won't be any more and I have to go find fics and play puppet theater in my head but UGH the voices aren't always right in my head and I don't always know what expressions they'd make and my mentalscape doesn't render backgrounds consistently or in much detail and GOD I can't make up those outfits!

it’s a dream come true for me!! i usually don’t like ballad-y and pop songs, but jayci yucca was always my exception. i liked all his cute and sweet songs and rock songs. i never imagined he would actually make a trap album just for fun some day. and it is so much fun for me too! it’s very much a no skip album. and ofc producer dnss needs to be mentioned. after they made an album with love songs together, i love how they decided to do a multiple-album project together ^_^ features: kid wine, the quiett, lobonabeat!, skinny brown, leellamarz, don malik, yukon from 0wave, kvsh, street baby, ys block, ny kid.

Mac Kidd - RAMPAGE, 11 songs, 25 min 28 sec

I’m so glad i finally remembered to follow mac kidd on spotify just a few days before this album came out. i was so happy! lately i couldn’t find many rappers that i like but i found him. it isn’t as aggressive as his other songs that i like so much, but still nice and solid! the songs are very short but that’s not unusual. this is what you’d expect from a nice fine underground album. no song gives reason to skip. features: roh yunha, bill stax, choo, yln foreign, oygli, paloalto, huh!.

the man is unstoppable! founder of friemilli is setting an example and releaseing soo much (good!) music this year and last year, i love it! and finally i understand the meaning behind the colors :D his name is koreangroove right, and this series of EPs are called “white groove”, “blue groove”, “red groove” - the colors of korea. it seems the series is completed with this one. once again, all songs are good! features: chilln homie, dawn dox, rosy barbie, dj 2bae, m!kyle, lil poet, ny dogg, kitsyojii

i know violetshipping is your otp but do you have any heartshipping headcanons/thoughts?

The one that I think about the most, which is probably not enough because brain is violetshipping 24/7, is the shred of resentment that canonverse Ryou might nurse toward canonverse Yugi pre-relationship or even early into the relationship. Basically playing with the dichotomy of Yugi missing his other self while Ryou is more in the "good riddance" camp toward his own. They both lost something categorically similar after a technically similar experience, but their experiences weren't even in the same ballpark. And maybe some jealousy at how Yugi seemingly got "the better end" of the deal when it came to spiritual hauntings.

Otherwise, they have a lot of shared interests that would be great ways to deepen their friendship/relationship. While Yugi isn't a horror fanatic in the same way, I don't see him as squeamish. Who else is Ryou going to watch the latest horror flick with? (Definitely not Jounouchi, bless him, I love my boy, but he would be annoying as fuck at a horror movie. I am also a scaredy cat and forcing your friend who is not into that stuff is both a dick move and a recipe for an unfun group hangout.) They'd both be into European board games that would take two hours to set up and explain the rules of where others in their friend group might have checked out after 30 minutes.

There's a lot of depth to be plumbed in their one-on-one friendship/hangout time that will feel categorically different than Yugi's friendship with Jounouchi.

Also love the idea of Yugi realizing he doesn't actually know Ryou that well or Ryou not being a person that shares much of his inner life/feelings despite his friendliness. Like great guy, tries to be helpful, but months down the line, you realize you've revealed all sorts of fears/insecurities with him, but you don't know the first thing about his favorite color or music or if he's ever felt sad.

TLDR; Their fluffiness/softness is endearing, but their potential for angst is also off-the-charts.
