i feel like matt is such a missed opportunity of a character. not to say i hate him, not the case at all—i think he’s great. one of the better characters introduced in srtt. i just wish they utilized him more. because i think they could’ve told a really interesting story with him if they actually focused on the fact that he’s only 16 years old during the events of srtt. like. he’s just a kid. he’s thrown into this deadly, terrifying world and all he really has going for him at his core are his computer skills. he’s not a good physical fighter, he’s not exactly the most charismatic so it’s not like he can really talk his way out of things, and his greatest fear is death; how did he possibly think he could survive this life? i mean, besides the fact that he’s a shitty 16y/o and you think you can do anything at that age, especially if you sit behind a computer all day. as i’ve been working on my little rewrite/AU, i’ve been struck by the idea of killbane “taking him under his wing” from the start and more overtly instilling this sort of “us VS them” mentality into him. matt is a genius, undeniably, but i wouldn’t say he’s exactly the smartest socially. he’s awkward and insecure and i think killbane could very easily talk matt into teaming up with him behind loren’s back—especially if killbane tells him what he wants to hear, and especially if he knows killbane could kill him without hesitation and uses that fear as a means of persuasion.

despite the issues i have with sriv, i think how it characterized matt was one of its strongest points. he has more to him and he felt much more tangible and understandable than he did in srtt. and, despite him being in his early 20s by sriv, he felt way more like a teen in that game than he ever did in srtt (at least to me), but i’ll chalk that one up to him actually having more screentime and development in sriv.

it’s just like. idk man. the kid writes nyteblade self-insert fanfiction for crying out loud.

Idk if you know, but the was actually a DLC for Saint's Row 3 that replaced the regular neck snap animation with a vampire bite one. It was removed from the remaster because it healed you for ridiculous amounts and broke the game.

Anyway, Boss Iona could've been a bloodsucker too! Well, she can always guest star on Nyteblade.

I debated whether or not to include that DLC for Saints Row Iona's lore, but decided against it. I owned it back in the day, but it not only broke the gameplay, it made my old xbox crash. So I never bought it when I got the game again on pc, and was glad to see it excluded from the remaster.

I think I prefer the idea of main-universe Boss Iona just being a massive vampire fan, up to and including the full collection of Anne Rice and Twilight novels displayed in the oval office. And she 100% had the full dvd collection of Nyteblade, even copies from other regions with obscure commentary tracks in the bonus features.

And reboot Boss Iona went so far as to get vampire tattoos and surgically implanted fangs because she could.

My man literally made a simulation so he could act out his self-insert Nyteblade fanfiction. Like I get you. And the entire time he’s just gushing about Nyteblade and at first The Boss is,, lowkey criticising. But as the mission goes on The Boss slowly gets interested in Nyteblade and just listens to Matt gush and starts asking him questions and getting into it like I literally smiled so big and goofy playing that mission.

I would replay it 50 times if I could and I’d never get sick of it
