I started watching pakistani dramas when I was very young, we're talking since toddler days here, cus of my mom and sisters who used to watch them all the time lol. What was the things about q*sim and sassi relationship that were hard to digest to you? Personally, I really liked their relationship at first since it was a really unique dynamic between a ml and fl for a pakistani drama, I think they were the ones who introduced to me soft boy and tough girl trope? But anyway, ever since the slap, I hated their relationship and now thinking about them more just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Something feels so icky about their relationship.
ALSO can I just say you're literally so right-minded?? During the mujhe pyaar hua tha era, your tweets about that drama and one other person's were literally the only things that were keeping me sane at the time like holy shit the amount of times I wanted to bang my head against a wall cus of this stupid drama is astronomical. Every time I read a neelo praise tweet/comment I lose 10 years of my life. That bitch annoyed the fuck out of me and especially ESPECIALLY her dick riders. The audience of paki dramas have so little empathy for women it's fucking crazy and extremely infuriating. When maheer officially got married to saad and then started to cry in her room afterwards, I felt so sorry for her and I thought the audience would too, at least a tiny bit. But imagine my surprise when I saw tweets making fun of her and just generally not giving a fuck about her. My blood was boiling. That one fucking tweet still lives in my mind rent free "hm anyways so-" are yall that heartless or just stupid? Seriously, all people talked about was poor saad this, poor saad that BITCH WHAT ABOUT MAHEER??? SHE WAS SUFFERING TOO??? If anything, she was the one who was going through it the most imo. I was so close to losing my mind with all that maheer slander and neelo praise tweets thank fuck I had a mootie (god bless her) who was feeling the same way as me. I used to send long rants to her in dms cus god the feedback of that drama was so frustrating ugh
i haven’t watched o rangreza in a loooong time so there are honestly parts of it i don’t even remember anymore but for whatever sharp commentary it possessed that i appreciated i think what the slap and then conclusively the end for sassi left me feeling was like the narrative was too willing to paint sassi as equally capable of the crimes of her father without taking into account that she was still ultimately a victim, and a female victim at that. like yeah a lot of daughters will emulate their fathers and there’s endless philosophy and literature on that dynamic but there’s a position in society sassi occupies that her father never will and i don’t think the narrative was as kind to her in that regard. which arguably may have been exactly the point of the ending but i didn’t entirely gel with the way she compared herself directly to him when she gave her reasons for not going through with the marriage to qasim in the end. it was a commentary on her taking action to not be selfish for once but i wish the narrative hadn’t acted like she was selfish willingly, if that makes sense. she was a shadow of her father and she deserved sympathy for what that made of her even if she deserved criticism too

What did you think of the LSAs this year or Pakistani awards in general? Nauman Ejaz made a point of questioning the basis on which these awards were given out. Were they all voting based or critics chosen? Surely there needs to a clear separation in the categories of that is the case. Winning them is one thing, what’s even more baffling are the nominations. How Noman Ijaz was nominated for Pinjra where he appeared for the first 2 episodes but not Sang e Marmar is beyond me. In the same way why
Paras Masroor didn’t get nominated for the same show when his performance was top-notch. He made a character so easy to dislike come alive and gave it different shades. Also why Yumna Zaidi didn’t get nominated for Pinjra but they felt the need to give Sajal Aly a nomination for O Rangreza which hadn’t even completed a significant number of episodes is again beyond me. OH the fact that O Rangreza got a nomination for best play is fascinating bcs even tho I loved the start and I love Sajal it wasn’t the greatest of shows for quite a big chunk. Also do you think there’s a bias in terms of favouring nominations for those more active on social media? I keep referring to Pinjra but Samina Ahmed was absolutely brilliant in it but alas she doesn’t get nominated. I know award shows aren’t meant to be taken too seriously in India/Pak for the sheer lack of credibility but it’s frustrating to see non-mainstream work not getting their due. Next year the likes of DSJHS will be overlooked too
My take on any and all award shows over the last few years has been consistent - if my favs win, I’ll cheer just for them. Otherwise I have zero interest in the whole system of award shows. Because every year the biasedness and the shoddiness of the award shows just becomes clearer and clearer. I’m just lowkey pleased that more and more people are speaking out against it. I am actually on Nauman Eijaz’s side be it regarding the unfairness of the awarding or the show being more of a social media affair than a night to celebrate the industry. The channel specific award shows can do all they want but if you are calling your award show as something that celebrates every aspect of the media industry from film to fashion, you better take it seriously. Every year the same names are being nominated and the same names are being won. So really..why bother with them?
First off they should make it clear on what basis are they giving out the awards? Baaghi had a very good social message, agreed. But as a whole the drama wasn’t that great. It started off well but the whole middle chunk of it, there wasn’t any positive reception towards it. Almost all the comments regarding it were that it was being dragged and was repetitive. It was only the finale which spiked interest in it again. Compared to that, Sang e Marmar was consistent throughout almost its entire run. And again, if it can get the award for best writer and director, what else did it need to be called the best drama? Because it had top notch performances from newcomers and veterans alike,  Nauman Eijaz got nominated for Pinjra (I didn’t even know he was in it) but not for SeM? The bigger snub was Sania Saeed! DID NO ONE SEE HER IN SANG E MARMAR?!! Sajal Aly can get nominated for two shows in the same category when she only deserved nomination for one show but there’s no mention of the stupendous performance Sania Saeed gave in SeM? And like you said..not even one mention of Paras Manzoor? If actors of critical and commercial hit dramas are treated like this then the shows from the smaller channels will never stand any chance. When was the last time a show from APlus won? Or shows from Express get even a nod of acknowledgement?
LSA are just that - Lux Snub Awards. It’s just a high class affair for the social media favorites to dress up and get some gorgeous pictures taken. And if you are Mahira Khan you’d be awarded regardless of anything. Everyone else will come there and laugh at Ahmad Ali Butt’s “jokes”. So if you aren’t game for either of these things then LSAs aren’t for you. I was only stalking the LSA tag that night because I was looking forward to seeing Maya. But once it was announced that she wasn’t attending, I stopped checking. And didn’t miss out anything because everything happened exactly as I had predicted. Mahira won (because why not?), Saba won (how could they not award her in Pakistan when she has won accolades in India?), Ahad won (fangirls ne aag laga deni thi if he didn’t), Baaghi won (haww hayyeee itne controversial public figure pe bana drama hai of course it’s the best thing since sliced bread!) etc etc.
I’m not mad at anything, I’m just amused at how LSA continue to screw up year after year and still have the audacity to be called the biggest awards of the entertainment industry. Matlab..at least TRY to live up to that tag. There’s nothing wrong in awarding the social media flavor of the season because that’s where they get the money from but at least make a separate “critics” category and reserve them for the shows/actors who actually have done remarkable work. Bloody Hum Awards have the sense to separate their big categories into popular and jury sections to keep everyone happy. LSA continue to dish out the same number of categories and only include FIVE nominations in each category (wo bhi they waste on nominating one actor for two of her shows) phir wo bhi samajh nahin ke are they including shows from the previous year or the current year. It’s just..stupid. The whole show is stupid and has no real value attached to it other than superficial entertainment.

I remember watching dil lagi as a kid for the first time and I really did loved the drama- scratch that, I ENJOYED every second of it. Until humayun's character slapped her :/ OMFGGG WHYYYYYY LITERALLY JUST WHY
why the FUCK do the makers love slapping their heroines so much. You bitches love hitting women so bad I genuinely hope every single one of you die. This is the same problem I had with o rangreza. I actually gasped so hard when q*sim slapped sassi. Cuz that was genuinely so shocking to me it felt so out of character omgggg I could rant about this all day. And then the makers try to redeem him by burning his hand 💀 11 year old me was not having it. I hate pakistani dramas with a passion with the exception of dastaan (tho hassan can, like, go away)
the thing that irritates me about it is that the slap concept is built into a lot of dramas as an inherent arbitrary thing that simply happens in a marriage (to the point that one of the biggest dramas this year engaged in it.. before the marriage even..) but dil lagi actively tried to like. make some sort of warped commentary about it and how mohid had to slap anmol so she would shut up and not defame her own character but also it was bad bc by slapping her he was defaming her character anyway and he should've known better than to do that but also she shouldn't have jumped to conclusions and assumed he was defaming her character which subsequently necessitated her yelling about how he was purportedly defaming her character and led to the slap.. like it was so abominably dumb and unnecessary, even moreso because it was placed at the literal tail end of the drama to create the most useless conflict ever. the entire appeal of the drama and the romance was in the fact that mohid was as placid as a lake and willing to be battered by every ounce of anmol's hatred until she came to realize on her own terms how much he cared about her, and instead that moment completely ruined it and any romantic momentum the drama originally had going for it. in one sense ig it wasn't unsurprising for a faiza iftikhar script bc while she does have a tendency to promote progressive depictions of love every once in a while the traditional religio-cultural practices do jump out. but it was such a shame and really tamped down everything else i had loved about the drama prior
also omg the fact that you were only 11 when o rangreza was airing you were a baaaaaby 😭 i really loved the commentary on sassi's relationship with her father but the sassi and qasim relationship's execution overall was very odd to digest and that slap is definitely a part of it. in general it's sad how few dramas there are that condemn that kind of abuse, even if it only comes down to one instance of it, unequivocally. i think there are dramas that have condemned consistent abuse (kankar, khaas, both of which are ironically sanam baloch dramas) but i've yet to see a drama where even a single slap is rightfully viewed for the horrific thing it is. interestingly dil lagi tried to view it as horrific but there were so many qualifiers to the situation that the alleged condemnation of the slap didn't have much weight to it (and who knows, maybe it would've had more weight if this was a storyline they'd pursued in the middle of the show rather than the end of it. though obv more than anything i would've preferred the drama to have no slap at all bc it wasn't necessary to their relationship in any logical sense). i'd really like to see a drama where a girl puts her foot down for good even if it only happens once

Have you been watching Baaghi and O Rangreza and if so, what are your thoughts on them?
I have started O Rangreza (first two episodes) and the concise and tight knit narrative of the drama is so refreshing to watch. I don’t remember the last drama that was so clear in its vision.. plus it is beautifully shot! Everyone is doing an amazing job but Sajal and Irsa Ghazal are a deeeelight to watch
P.S. I’m watching Alif Allah aur Insan and Sana’s presence in both dramas is the weakest link. She’s so cringe sometimes lol
I still have to start Baaghi. It’s like I wanna start it but the sadness surrounding it always stops me.. Still trying to conjure up the courage.

Kashmir-Hum Awards brings stars to Canada

Kashmir-Hum Awards brings stars to Canada
Mahira Khan, Humayun Saeed, Ahad Raza Mir and Hania Amir take to the stage for the awards show
Pakistani film and television stars dressed in their finest designer wear as they attended the 6th Kashmir-Hum Awards, held at the enormous First Ontario Centre in Hamilton, Canada. Hum TV Network’s flagship event was previously held internationally in Dubai in 2015.
The Hamilton event saw a huge turnout of non-resident Pakistanis and Indians, and the stars gladly stopped to wave back at their fans and oblige them with selfies.
Mahira Khan, who looked resplendent in a shimmery blue anarkali, had the crowd swooning as she danced to a medley of songs from her many hit films. Atif Aslam easily had the most electrifying effect on the audience, as he performed a variety of tracks, ending with Dil Diyaan Gallan from last year’s Bollywood blockbuster Tiger Zinda Hai.
Humayun Saeed also took to the stage, along with his Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 costar Kubra Khan, while the winner of New Sensation (TV) and Best Actor (Popular) Ahad Raza Mir shocked everyone with his daredevil stunt before dancing with his Parwaaz Hai Junoon leading lady Hania Amir. Model and actor Mikaal Zulfikar and Hareem Farooq also performed together.
Earlier, the show began with the Pakistan’s national anthem, which was followed by Canada’s national anthem. Like any other film or TV awards event, this one too was eventually about honouring the best in the business.
Mahira Khan was adjudged the Best Actress (Film) for her author-backed role in Verna, where she played a rape survivor. Fawad Khan presented the award to her.
The trophy for Best Actor (Film) went to Humayun Saeed for Punjab Nahi Jaungi, while Sajal Aly walked away with the maximum number of awards — Best Actress (Popular) for drama serial Yaqeen Ka Safar, and Best Actress (Jury) for O Rangreza. She and Ahad Raza were declared the Best Onscreen Couple for Yaqeen Ka Safar.
Sana Fakhir and Imran Ashraf won awards for Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor categories respectively. Sania Saeed walked away with the Most Impactful Character (Female) award for Sammi, while veteran actor Qavi Khan won the Most Impactful Character (Male) for Alif Allah Aur Insan.
Ace cricketer Shahid Afridi won the International Icon of the Year, while former actress star Reema Khan got the Excellence in Cinema Award. Renowned beautician and social activist Masarrat Misbah was given the Excellence in Humanity Award.
The other stars who graced the night included Adnan Siddiqi, Mawra Hocane, Armeena Rana Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Vaneeza Ahmad, Shahzad Sheikh, Bilal Khan, Arsalan Butt, Sanam Jung, Samina Peerzada, and Bushra Ansari. The event was hosted by Ali Rehman Khan, Yasir Hussain, and Ahmad Ali Butt.
